I have the control over the Ekin SUL account and I have usurped the Ekin username in all wikis except this one. I have filed for a request back on 2 May 2011 but was rejected then. Now, I have already usurped the user in hu.wiki, who has uploaded 5 images in 2009 and has not been active ever since. Please see his 5 images are only used in an article in hu.wiki. I have asked for his consent several times. I have mailed him two times. He has not responded at all. I believe he hasn't even got an email in his account. Since I have already taken over his hu.wiki (home) account, I believe you can rename his commons account to something like Ekin (usurped) and keep his 5 photographs intact. After all I must be able to use my Ekin username to upload images to support articles I write using my Ekin account. I believe I am an active editor on en.wiki (home) and would like to upload via my own username. What is more, I am not able to vote for images. A few months back, Picture Of The Year voting was on and I was not able to vote because I was rejected to use username Ekin. I believe this is my right and I must be able to vote using my SUL username too. Please see edits on my home wiki for proof of SUL.
Sorry, as hard as it is, the rules are there and we can't just break them. The account has useful contributions that are own work. If it would be uploads from other sources bending the rules would maybe be possible but that is not the case here. These are the users own pictures that he provided, not some transfers from flickr or governmental pages or very old stuff. So as told before you have to find a way to contact the current owner and get his agreement or wait until the rules change. If we break the rules for one we have to break them for all. Then we would not need rules. But we have them for a reason. This here is media, not just text like in the other projects.
It's most likely not a consolidation for you, but I am in the same situation. Despite being admin in three projects and bureaucrat in one project and having close to 100.000 edits on all projects combined (not counting admin actions) I can't use this name on the Wikipedia of the country I am living in. But I did not ask them to break the rules. Like everybody else in this situation I have to log out of one account and log in to the other account (and that procedure I'm doing pretty often), and unless the foundation ever gets out the promised SUL 2.0 this will not change. -- Cecil (talk) 22:40, 17 August 2011 (UTC)

As for usurping them first, I made all necessary usurp requests at the same time, although I forget the precise order in which I made them, what with different projects having different procedures and being exceedingly difficult to find information about renaming. There were one or two projects where I did not submit usurp requests. In one case, I didn't have a pre-existing account necessitating a usurp and, in the other case/s, my account didn't have any significant edits making a usurp useful. My motive for usurping here is that, in conjunction with my request above, I wish to place my past contributions under my current username, which I don't think is an unreasonable request. I don't understand why it be necessary for me to usurp my Wiktionary and Wikibooks accounts first. To begin with, they're separate projects and I don't see how it relates to a usurp request on this project. Secondly, neither of them is my home wiki, that being Wikipedia with Commons being a distant second. Thirdly, the usurp request at Wiktionary is already fulfilled, with notification being left in the customary location a mere 17 minutes after my request being placed and two hours and 24 minutes prior to your request I usurp it. Finally, as I have no control over different projects' usurp processes and the volunteers who maintain them, all I can do is exactly what I have done, place a usurp request and wait. Was there somebody else faster or did you merely not know about the option to simply rename an account or were logged in with the SUL who created this account when you switched to Commons? Yes, my target username was registered accidentally, probably by selecting the "log in globally" option when I logged in elsewhere. I can't be sure, though, as I don't fully understand the SUL thing. I've already provided evidence above of owning the target username (which was accepted on other projects) but here is additional project-specific evidence.
Incidentally, I don't know how many others have had this sort of problem, but I found it very difficult to find detailed information about renaming a SUL account. Each project has different procedures and requirements for renaming. Some combine renaming with usurping while others make it clear they are separate procedures. None give precise instructions on renaming an SUL account from a multi-project perspective: each project's info page only details renaming as it concerns that project. In one or two projects, there is no local variant of COM:CHU or WP:RENAME. I presume that SUL accounts are becoming more widespread, even if it's by accident (assuming the "global login" box is pre-selected by default when logging in). Consequently, a dearth of information on how, precisely, SUL accounts should be renamed will lead to others having the same difficulty I've had, if they haven't already.
By the way, I apologise if I've come across as frustrated or annoyed. It's just that, depite my best efforts to do things properly, a small mess has still arisen, which I'm sure must be a nuisance for those who get to clean it up. Nonetheless, please don't think I'm not grateful. I'm thankful for your help, and please take my comments in the last paragraph in the constructive light in which they were intended. I'd like to add this point for emphasis. The rule on Commons says above that a usurp on Commons is allowed when, "Target account is unused, and has not been SUL reserved. Usurpation will usually be allowed if the Commons target account has been registered but never used (or has only deleted edits or entirely non-useful edits). In such a case, bureaucrats may at their discretion usurp even if the target account does not consent. However, usurpation will not be allowed in any event where the account has been reserved by somebody else as a Single Unified Login (SUL) account." It would have been a good idea in February 2010, when I created my account at my home wiki. Now I'm active in the SWMT and I have done many contributions in various wikis, being the most active Striker nowadays. On the other hand, the other Strikers did nothing significative, only creating accounts and never using or making few edits then abandoning. Those accounts are inactive for more than 4 years and their usurpation is in progress. There might be an exception we can discuss about, the Striker from the English Wikipedia, who is a very occasional editor that makes less than 10 edits per year nowadays. I believe it is fair that I hold and represent the name. I have already mentioned that renaming my account to add a numerical suffix to my username would be the best soluction, however it isn't.
