this file should be deleted as the video is sprinkled throughout with stills of the author's copyrighted works both in focus and in high-quality. This violates the de minimis requirements for non-free elements. Canned Frootloops (talk) 00:29, 25 May 2026 (UTC)

Comment I am unsure if this falls under the same copyright exemption of officially released material depicting small portions of otherwise copyrighted material, given it is third-party but made with at least partial collaboration of the author. The work could still be kept if the copyrighted material was censored, which would not be too difficult as only a few scenes at the beginning and the top 5/6ths or so of a bunch of remaining scenes would need to be blurred out. (Side note: video is NSFW and depicts gay pornographic manga but that has nothing to do with the DR) Dronebogus (talk) 06:27, 25 May 2026 (UTC)

The majority of photos released by NIST in response to FOIAs about 9/11 were not produced by federal employees (for example, in the linked Google drive, there is an entire folder for w:New York Daily News photos). This very much calls the copyright status of this image into question. Based5290 (talk) 02:01, 25 May 2026 (UTC)

I have severe copyright concerns about the images uploaded by this user. These are claimed own work CC0, but many images are actually taken from the web. Some are historical works where the original is in the public domain, but the photographs are still copyrighted.

The ones shown below are my own works. I have clicked these photos. The Facebook page for the "Lakshminarayan brick"is owned by me. I have deleted the image from the page. All the maps and diagrams I have uploaded are my own creations as well.
Ananya Taye (talk) 19:20, 25 May 2026 (UTC)
In addition, I have reviewed my uploads and have requested speedy deletion of files that were sourced from external websites or where there may be copyright concerns, in order to comply with Commons licensing policies. The files listed below are those for which deletion has been requested.
Ananya Taye (talk) 22:08, 25 May 2026 (UTC)
Ananya Taye, YOU don't get to decide which files MKFI nominated. Your removal of files from this DR as well as the removal of the Deletion notification in each of the respective files, is highly irregular (to put it friendly), no matter how the end result of this whole process may turn out for any of the files.
  • With regards to at least one of "your" files, your claims of authorship is frankly ludicrous. File:Map showing Rukmininagar hill fortifications during the British period.jpg states that it was first published by R.E. E.A.Tandy in 1927 in his function as Surveyor General of India. I have it on good notice that you are therefore alredy dead for 76 years already and thus cannot have created any other of these images by yourself, since you are obviously dead, Mr. Tandy.</sarcasm> Actually, I agree with RAN that this file dating from 1927 should be kept. Just your misinformation about it being a self-created map needs to be removed. I hope that you see how this obvious lie in one case, casts further doubt on the other uploads.
  • With regards to other photos, yes you may have taken them yourself. Checking the Exif metadata however reveals "Software used: Google" or ":Picasa", or other untypical information where a typical self-photographed image shows actual camera information. Some of that may be explained by usage of image manipulation software to create digital overlays, or by deliberate scrubbing your own files from such metadata, but it is suspicious.
  • With regards to all these maps: I do notice similiraties between File:Map of Habung Region.jpg, File:Map of Baro-Bhuyan territories.jpg and File:Map of Kachari Kingdom in 16th-17th century.png, so I would suggest that these files were all made by the same author (which indeed may be you... or someone else?) For full transparency, you need to be honest about where the basemaps came from, though. It is easy to spot that you did not create ALL of the maps by your lone self. There is a lot of legal issues that surround "free" online map services. Please add a link to the original map service into the file description, and we can evaluate the claims of the files being creative commons. If you can't provide a link to the service you used to create these maps, we must probably assume Commons:PCP, and delete.
  • Yet another case is however File:Ahom kingdom Map (till early 16th century).jpg which can be found in many facebook posts and also on some chinese sites (where they did not originate, of course). Right now, I cannot verify who the author is, but if you created this map in January 2026, why is the same map in usage on other sites since 2021? This looks again like a dishonesty that casts more doubt on your other claims.
All the best, --Enyavar (talk) 00:16, 27 May 2026 (UTC)
I was obviously not referring to that 20th century map. All the maps marked with kingdoms and territories are my own creations. I used Pixlr software to prepare and edit them. The base maps were created from openly available map layers (such as OpenStreetMap/Stamen terrain maps), and the historical boundaries, territorial reconstructions, labels, and annotations were added by me manually based on historical sources. These are therefore not copies of any published historical map, but original derivative works that required substantial effort and interpretation. It took me a lot of time to prepare those maps, so kindly do not delete them. The photographs are also taken by me, and yes, I have edited them using software. These are not available anywhere else on the web.
The one on the Ahom kingdom was originally uploaded by me in 2021 (or earlier), but was subsequently deleted from Commons due to a historical-content dispute rather than a copyright issue. I reuploaded it in 2026 with some minor changes. The versions currently found elsewhere online were copied from my Wikimedia Commons uploads. Please refer to the earlier deletion discussion here: File:Ahom_kingdom_Map(1522AD).jpg, Ananya Taye (talk) 19:58, 30 May 2026 (UTC)
That is good to know, and I see that you added this important information into the file descriptions. Until now, I was not familiar with the Stamen layout, but I see that a few more maps exist on Commons and that it ultimately seems to be derived from OSM data. -->  Keep the maps that are now marked with the required information. It would be great if you could also add where you have taken your information on the territorial spread of these kingdoms from, but as I see it, that is optional. --Enyavar (talk) 06:35, 1 June 2026 (UTC)
Question Could the admin who decides to handle this case please check File:Ahom kingdom Map (till early 16th century).jpg and File:Ahom Kingdom Map.jpg against File:Ahom territories until 1522 AD with the territories of Raja.jpg and File:Ahom territories until 1522 AD.jpg which have been uploaded in June 2020 by a different user (Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by SashankaChutia)?
The reason I'm asking is because that other user had been found to be the sock of an LTA who is known to POV-push in this topic area, and Ananya Taya (AT) is currently also being accused of that in one (or two) recent threads on enwiki AN/I. AT has also been suspected of being part of the same sock farm (and has in fact tried to overwrite a file which was uploaded by a confirmed sock of that farm). The CU back then returned as "Possilikely". See here: .
If it turns out that the maps are different, I apologize for my suspicion. However, given the frequent original research content additions and pov-pushing in this topic area by multiple LTAs, I'd still vote to  Delete the maps unless AT provides the source from where they have taken the information on the territorial spread of these kingdoms. Nakonana (talk) 21:01, 11 August 2026 (UTC)
Comment It looks like the uploader removed the DR template from some of the files (example: ), so that, as a result I didn't notice this DR and ended up opening speedy deletion requests for some of the files already listed here (where there's at least a strong suspicion of copyvio). I also note that the uploader has continued to upload images from Instagram and Facebook even several months after this DR was opened (example from late July: ). Support — hoax with no obvious educational value. Per discussion in ruwiki:
> Let's summarize what we have from the sources given in this discussion, where did this audio file come from and can we trust its attribution?
> The file in the article was uploaded from this website. There is no information about the source of this audio recording on it. The website itself is some kind of anonymous collection of audio files and cannot be considered a reliable source. The file has been removed from the website.
> This audio is also available on Arzamas.academy website, which represents materials for the course of lectures by historian Lev Lurie, added 7 years after the lectures themselves. It is not clear whether this was done with the sanction of Lurie himself or not. It is a newsreel of the parade, on which the audio recording in question was added in the background, with the caption "Recording made in 1910 at the parade of His Imperial Majesty’s Separate Grenadier Corps in honor of the monarch's birthday." The signature is false, since the Grenadier Corps is based in Moscow, while Nicholas II was in Tsarskoye Selo during his birthday in this year and did not attend any parades. Not a reliable source.
> Documentary film "The History of Military Parades on Red Square. Film #1" (film studio "Wings of Russia"). In the film, the audio recording in question is added in the background on newsreel footage of the 1914 parade. Why it was attributed as the voice of Nicholas in general and tied to this parade in particular is unknown. I don't see any historical consultants in the film's credits. Not a reliable source.
> Page on the website of the Crimean Patriarchate. The audio is attributed to a specific record: "At the parade of the Grenadier Corps in honor of the Birthday of Emperor Nicholas II, the orchestra of the 7th Samogit Grenadier Regiment plays. Bandmaster: Adolf Ivanovich Kluger. At the end of the march 'Longing for the Motherland,' the Tsar pronounces the phrase: 'Brothers, thank you for the glorious parade!' Production: 'International extra record'. 1912." It is reliably known that Nicholas II was not in Moscow in 1910, 1911 or 1912, where the Grenadier Corps is based, during his birthday. The Crimean Patriarchate is not a reliable source in history. Konstantin Kapkov, indicated as the author of the text, does not have historical education and an academic degree, and does not qualify as a historian per ВП:ЭКСПЕРТ. Not a reliable source.

File:Mountainous Republic of the Caucasus.png

The borders shown in this map are highly inaccurate and fictitious and completely misrepresents the actual historical territory of the Mountainous Republic of the Northern Caucasus (1917-1921). It violates Commons guidelines about reliable sourcing for historical maps and constitutes original research or historical fabrication. Liptink0 (talk) 16:46, 25 May 2026 (UTC)

please give me a link to these alleged Commons guidelines about reliable sourcing for historical maps, I would LOVE to read them. As far as I know, such guidelines do not exist and original research is not per se disallowed on Commons.
That said; a map like this one (that is showing a 1920s entity together with 2020s borders; that does not even show its subject fully but is randomly cut off in both the north and west bounds; and that is unused and unsourced)? That map is not in scope, and should be  deleted. --Enyavar (talk) 08:51, 13 July 2026 (UTC)

Agência Brasil license is not valid after 23 february 2017, so it's a copyrighted image BrunoGuedes1 (talk) 18:23, 25 May 2026 (UTC)

Agência Brasil continues to operate with content licensed under specific criteria, and the understanding regarding the sharing of its material involves the separation between the company's founding legislation and the copyright rules in force in the country. To understand exactly how the agency's current licensing works, it is worth highlighting the following points: The Standard License: Creative Commons (CC BY): Most of the proprietary content produced by Agência Brasil (texts and photographs from its institutional reporters and photographers) is made available under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Brazil (CC BY) license. This means that the content is free for reproduction, redistribution, and even adaptation, provided that: Explicit credit is given to the author and Agência Brasil. A link to the original publication is included when reproduced in a digital environment. Third-Party Content and Partner Agencies. Not everything published on the Agência Brasil portal can be freely replicated. There is a crucial distinction in their content: Clearly identified with the professional credit accompanied by "Agência Brasil" (e.g., Photo: Marcelo Camargo/Agência Brasil). These follow a free license. Materials, videos, or images replicated from partner international news agencies (such as Reuters, AFP, Xinhua, among others) or from independent photographers contracted under strict terms of patrimonial rights.
This content remains protected by conventional copyright (all rights reserved) and cannot be redistributed to the general public without direct authorization from the original holders.
The 2017 Legal Framework and EBC: In 2017, there was a significant legislative change in the structure of Empresa Brasil de Comunicação (EBC) — the manager of Agência Brasil — through Law No. 13.417/2017 (resulting from the conversion of Provisional Measure 744). This legislation reformulated the governance of the public company and the objectives of the broadcasting services and public agency. However, this law did not extinguish the open licensing model adopted by Agência Brasil. EBC maintains, as an institutional guideline, the function of circulating information of public interest broadly, preserving the Creative Commons seal for its own production as a way to subsidize regional newspapers, blogs, and other media outlets across the country, Access link: Acessar material fotojornalístico gratuitamente (Agência Brasil): Access the link and click the start button for licensed images and search "Meeting between the President of Brazil Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Donald Trump" you will see the images completely free for use on Wikimedia Commons and in compliance with copyright laws.
Contact the email address for licensing information mentioned in this news reportUserLeonardo (talk) 16:08, 26 May 2026 (UTC)
Ok, but where's the specific license? The footer informs that the website is licensed under the CC-By 3.0 ND license, which isn't acceptable in Commons. The template {{Agência Brasil}} informs that This license is not valid for content that was produced (i.e. date taken) by Agência Brasil after 23 February 2017. None of this is to imply that Agência Brasil content produced after 2017 cannot be freely licensed if otherwise noted. BrunoGuedes1 (talk) 00:31, 28 May 2026 (UTC)
@UserLeonardo: Complementing the answer above: it's not accepted in Commons then it shouldn't be uploaded. If it shouldn't be uploaded, it shouldn't exist here. It's as simple as that.
@Didym since you were the one who deleted a cropped image that I've uploaded some months ago, can you please delete this one and its cropped image as well please? BrazilianDude70 (talk) 21:20, 14 August 2026 (UTC)

В каком плане изображение несвободно, если оригинальное видео свободно распространяется по лицензии Creative Commons – Attribution? Graphique38 (talk) 05:10, 26 May 2026 (UTC)
The video does indeed have the license "we" want. @Graphique38, however, it's helpful if you add a time-stamp in the Summary section, see File:Jia Tolentino 2024.jpg for an example. Also, in this particular case, Template:YouTube CC-BY is what you should use in the Licensing section. There is a lot of devil in the details around here, note that Template:YouTube CC-BY 4.0 is different. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 15:18, 7 June 2026 (UTC)

Did you discuss any of these with the uploader first? At a first glance, this looks like some GF editing on WP leading to an inexperienced editor falling foul of our (admittedly complex) rules here on Commons. It's not easily clear from here if some of these could have bene validly on WP before this - the metadata now certainly does look wrong. Andy Dingley (talk) 23:48, 25 May 2026 (UTC)
Andy Dingley, what do you mean by could have bene validly on WP ?
Did you discuss any of these with the uploader first?
The uploader is welcome to respond here. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 01:17, 26 May 2026 (UTC)
'been' obviously. I'm thinking of either another uploader's correct metadata and credits (so they could be transferred here, if done right) or else even something under fair use on WP, so they can't stay here, but they should at least be returned there rather than just deleted.
We still have an upload UI here that rather obviously keeps encouraging new users to wrongly claim stuff as own work. Andy Dingley (talk) 01:21, 26 May 2026 (UTC)

Maybe they weren't - I haven't looked in any detail, as the easiest thing would seem to be to ask the uploader. But they were part of a large phase of editing on en:WP. Andy Dingley (talk) 10:41, 26 May 2026 (UTC)
