Hi All, I'm mostly active on the English Wikipedia and these days mostly only as the person running the educational WikiProject WP:APBIO. I'd like to have permissio to overwrite files so that I can submit improved versions on the project diagrams, for instance File:Shark Anatomy.svg is a very useful and needed diagram and well done, but I need to trim the margins and change some of the line and word contrast as the student has finished the course. @Earthdirt, you didn't care to read the note at the top of this page bcoz if you did, you wouldn't have written this request at the top of the section. Also, you used URLs instead of internal wikilinks. I had to make some fixes in your request (See Revision #1229435080). I think you probably need to work a bit more on Commons before getting autopatrol. In the meantime, you can request to overwrite files at COM:OWR. I've been looking to adjust rotation/coloring on several existing photos, and looks like this isn't available to do normally, so here we are. Hello,I am on a mission to overwrite images from The Lushai Chrysalis and some United States Senate portraits and US House of Representatives press images and other related to United States Congress and Mizo History which are all Public Domain. yes, I've learnt alot as I was you know like every other guy on the internet before. Ive read and learnt copyright laws from different countries and also about Creative Commons licenses and their usage like PD-US, CC0, CC-BY-SA, etc. After editing and being on Wikipedia and Wikimedia a lot more, I have now good experience and have a good knowledge about copyright. I'm a semi-frequent image overwriter, who's been here for nearly 20 years. I do so when I find a higher quality version of an image, when it can be better compressed, or both. I continued to do so on en.wikipedia.com, but I've slowed here on Commons due to the change in rules 3 years. Hello. I would like to be able to overwrite content that has problematic non-free content that is not de minimis without any friction from having to go to Commons:Overwriting existing files/Requests. I would also want to fix files that have some problems, like the File:Thomas_B._Read_(American,_1822-1872)_-_Portraits_of_Elizabeth_Barrett_Browning_and_Robert_Browning.png image that has an unnecessary vertical line at the right of the image. PhantomFunds

I have been uploading maps and other geographical files for some time now, and I would like permission to begin uploading new versions of other files, for example I would like to update File:The Netherlands compared to sealevel.png to https://www.deviantart.com/phantomfunds/art/1365118704 as it better illustrates the subject matter or for another example, replacing these two files: https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?lang=zh-tw&title=File%3AKingdom_of_the_Netherlands_location_tree.svg https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?lang=zh-hk&title=File%3AKingdom_of_the_Netherlands_location_tree.svg which are not only not the respective tw and hk versions of Chinese as named, but are both the same exact file as the simplified Chinese version with this File:Netherlands Location Tree ZH Trad.svg instead that had since had to upload separately due to lacking the permission. I foresee myself making more similar such edits in the future and as such would like to request greater permissions in order to do so. I only plan to be uploading files (including new versions of others files from time to time) and making edits to pages (mostly editing the media on said pages like flags and maps etc) but I was suggested to request for Autopatrol, if that is not the correct right to apply for, my apologies in advance. Hello. AWB will be used to set or unset categories of images. Usually in case of categories who are much too large and need sorting in subcategories. Antonsusi (talk) 09:02, 15 July 2026 (UTC)

ForeverFlying

My main use would be for created new subcategories and modifying existing categories (including templates) for Category:Categories of the United States by state. There are many categories that should apply for any state (such as Category:Flora of the United States by family by state and using AutoWikiBrowser would greatly speed up this process, as well as correctly categorize existing subcategories. I often upload files with the smartphone or on the tablet in a running (and unfavorably wobbling) train and therefore unfortunately cause more or less regularly typos in the file names (and detect them when including the files in an article later), so it would be helpful to have the file mover right. Hopefully my work on WP (edit count, Sichter = pending changes reviewer right), WV (edit count, autopatroller right) and here so far recommends me for the feature. Thank you. Maybe my explanation above describes why it should be useful to have the possibility. Since I see my main job in upating and writing articles I don't want to rename files of others, just mine. I'm involved in file sorting and recategorizing for WLE and WLM in Central Asia and other categorizing work. Sometimes there are misnamed files (criterion 3) or even gibberish names (criterion 2). @Shaan Sengupta: I think I can jump in here: all renamings in my rename logs for July 2 and July 7 were made by Elena's request via Telegram. Ok, I've performed those requests. I am now more concerned than I was before bcoz of the kind of mistakes there were in those file names. A Filemover is expected to be extra careful while naming files. Also, when you are requesting renaming for a file where you are the uploader, use Criterion 1 and give the reason eg. to correct typo, etc. That's my feedback here, someone else will take a call. This is not about uploads but about (re)naming files. Someone with far less upload than you may get it and someone with a lot more uploads than you may not. Again, look at the number of successful rename requests they made prior to applying here, and then look at yours. That's the only difference. I previously told you that the number of edits, uploads, etc., doesn't hold as much weight in a filemover application as the history of rename requests. I do not appreciate this level of desperation. I asked you to make requests, never said that once you do so, I'll grant you the right. I said doing that will help us assess your understanding... And I think I made myself perfectly clear when I said That's my feedback here, someone else will take a call. You have to wait for someone else to come and attend your request. Admins also are volunteers, just like everyone else. The request can be closed within minutes or within a month or longer. If you can't wait, it's on you not us.  Comment JFVoll, you are not being treated «like a nobody», you asked for a right to move files and are being asked follow up questions. That is normal and «like somebody». File movers are allowed to move files and that can create a serious problems for uploaders. For example, did you know that there is a bug in MW which automatically renames .jpeg file into .jpg as soon as the move takes place. This means that if you move a file and that move is to be reverted, nobody actually can give the original name back as it was. I do feel your pain. I have had some files which I named differently than my current naming convention and now they are annoying me. @Abdullah1099: so when you create a new template, create a subpage called Template:TemplateName/doc. In this subpage, click create and a preload box should appear, saying "Click to preload this page with a TemplateBox template with <number> parameter(s)". Choose the appropriate option and fill in the details as detailed at Template:TemplateBox. Then add the documentation in the original template page with noinclude.
