The orbits of Phobos and Deimos around Mars are seen in this simulated view created by JPL Solar System Simulator.

The positions of Phobos and Deimos in their orbits and the surface features of Mars, as well as the relative sizes of Mars and the satellites' orbits are all accurate for the time and date given. Phobos and Deimos are both moving left to right in the image.

The satellites orbit very nearly in Mars's equatorial plane, however Mars's axial tilt with respect to its orbit around the Sun is about 25°. Therefore as seen from Earth the orbits are often tilted, and are only rarely seen edge-on.
