    The first sentence above does not even refer to this particular photograph. The last, however, is a rather uninventive truism that adds nothing to the discussion. Forget about bashing me. Stop playing devil's advocate and defending photos that violate copyright or are of poor quality at all costs and pay more attention to the accusations contained in the requests. According to your principles, even archived family photos would be considered public domain simply because someone saw them once, and that supposedly makes them public domain. In the old days, everyone had to develop their photos. However, the photo in question is of exceptionally poor quality, and for unknown reasons, the remaining part of the subject's body was cropped out. Uniminomumm (talk) 00:12, 12 February 2026 (UTC)

I wasn't able to access the paywalled source, but the other source simply said that fact without further elaboration about renewals and such. I suspect some of the earliest uploads in the nominated files may have resulted in a weird case of Commons citogenesis (or the Internet Archive page mislead someone). @Jeff G.: Just making a note that this file also has some technical problems. The aspect ratio is wrong, this file needs to be played at approximately a 4.6:3 aspect ratio to be correct. This would suggest the picture was cropped and stretched. It is also interlaced (well, w:telecined prolly) and it was upscaled without being detelecined/deinterlaced first. The damage this caused is irreversible. It has a framerate of 29.97 fps which is not film. This has all the hallmarks of a 4:3 TV broadcast that was upscaled to 1080p.. shittily. Yann uploaded File:House on haunted hill.ogv in 2016 which isn't an upscale but otherwise still poor.
This movie was released on Blu-Ray in 2014 so I don't understand why y'all were uploading inferior versions.

The original version of the portrait was completed in 1950 by Zhang Zhenshi (1914–1992). There is no freedom of panorama in China for 2-dimensional works. The copyright term of the country is 50 years, and the image can be undeleted in 2043. See this DR on the coverage of Chinese FOP on 2D works.

The portrait painting by Oswald Birley, created in 1931 and published in 1932 in the United Kingdom where it was still copyrighted on 1 January 1996 under the life + 70 term in force that day, had its U.S. copyright restored by the URAA and remains protected in the U.S. for 95 years from publication.

It was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1932, as reported in volume 90 of The Connoisseur magazine (published in 1932), which also notes that a reproduction of the painting served as the frontispiece for the National Art-Collections Fund's 28th annual report. This public exhibition and reproduction support treating 1932 as the publication year for copyright analysis purposes. (instead of using creation date as a fallback). The file was uploaded with the {{Not-PD-US-URAA}} tag, but that is not allowed for new uploads after March 1, 2012. So the file should be deleted. It can be restored in 2032. This is the same photograph that is used for Robert Morrs en:Robert Morris (lawyer) and has been mistakenly attributed as Roberth Sutherland in the past but we do not believe it is Sutherland. I would be interested in knowing where an original copy of this image exists in order to verify the subject. I believe this is a problem that has been created by faulty metadat on the internet.     We are quite sure that it is not Robert Sutherland. There have been concerted efforts to find a photograph of Sutherland -- As a prominent lawyer in the Walkerton area it is likely that he would have sat for a portrait at some point, so we do have hope -- but our efforts in locating an original attributed photograph have been unsuccessful. This photo being up on Wikipedia has now added to the confusion. Sutherland graduated Queen's in 1852 and died in 1878. HxH2 (talk) 16:50, 11 February 2026 (UTC)
    The first time we noticed this photograph being used for Robert Sutherland was on the Mount Pleasant Cemetery site - they have since taken it down but it has ballooned all over the place since then. We have been in touch with the Boston College law Library (which seems to have the most comprehensive information about Morris) to see if we can verify if that is an image of him. This same image is also sometimes attributed as Macon Allen Bolling. We have also reached out to the an institution that has a comprehensive exhibit on Bolling. File:Robert Morris lawyer.jpg was uploaded in 2009 by Slowking4, whose source (archived from the original 2014-01-08) merely says Courtesy of: Social Law Library. File:Macon Bolling Allen.png, the image for w:Macon Bolling Allen as of the writing of this comment, has not had any source attributed by its uploader Sconfire since 2021. To the closer of this deletion discussion: delete. I lost the URLs and bibliographic data and don't have the time to retrieve it at the moment, but the photo from the Social Law Library is of Morris according to a 2013 NYT opinion piece, an undated site from...the National Park Services, I think?, and another undated site from the Smithsonian. I want to permanently delete the username 'Sohupääsenu' of mine, which turned out to be my doppelgänger account evoked by bullying and personal attacks. Last year, I created a new account to contribute to Wikipedia, on the other hand the blocking for 'Sohupääsenu' was removed a few months ago. That's why, I faithfully ask the administrators that all of the photos I uploaded to Wikimedia Commons under 'Sohupääsenu' will disappear forever. As an Estonian, I'm relying on the rights of the European Union, namely on the "Right to disconnect" as well as the "Right to be forgotten" (RTBF) specified in the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The gray boxes make the illustration too wide for the webpage dimensions of Wikipedia, the illustration stretches far right over the edge of the browser.
