English: The "Golden Griffin Great Silk and Clothing House", located at 128-32 King Street East. The two big shopping emporiums of the day, the Golden Lion and Golden Griffin, were both on King Street and were each topped off with a monumental lion and a griffin respectively. These stores, founded in the 1840s, were a mainstay of smart Victorians wanting the latest European fashions and home wares.
