This template should not be used for dashcam footage originating in the United States. The U.S. Copyright Office has allowed valid registrations for dashcam footage, establishing precedent that such works are legally copyrightable. No federal court has addressed this issue as of 2026. Any dashcam footage from the U.S. on Commons must be freely licensed or in the public domain for a separate reason.Discuss

Use this template to mark a file which you have identified as being ineligible for copyright protection by virtue of it being produced by a completely automated system, such as a CCTV or traffic camera.
Note that this cannot be used in all countries; the United Kingdom allows copyright on automated recordings, Russian copyright court practice specifically exempts security camera footage from copyright (although such works should use {{PD-RU-exempt-autocam}}), and the question remains untested in most other jurisdictions.
