- What has happened to the images that were categorised in it? Have they been deleted (I don't recollect seeing any deletion requests?), or recategorised out of it into cluttering up other subcategories that they were originally removed from so weren't "in the way" of other better quality photos? - MPF (talk) 09:58, 13 January 2024 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) probably better asked on the CfD, or at least with a ping. - Jmabel ! talk 18:10, 13 January 2024 (UTC)

- @Atsme: - if you want a list of categories that you visit regularly, the thing to do is put a colon in before the category, like this: [[:Category:Horses]] then you see the name of the category without being included in it, like this: Category:Horses. Hope this helps! - MPF (talk) 15:35, 18 February 2024 (UTC)
Äntligen maj: Wiki Loves Earth 2024!

Hej,
(For information in English, see Wiki Loves Earth 2024 in Sweden or other participating countries.)
Alicia Fagerving (WMSE) (talk) 10:58, 29 April 2024 (UTC)
What made you think...
...these geese are domesticated? They are not kept by a farmer or anything. They come and go as they please in that park. -- Auntof6 (talk) 04:16, 3 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Auntof6: - that they are a domesticated breed derived from Greylag Geese (Anser anser), a European species which does not occur naturally in the USA. They can be identified as a domesticated breed by their body shape, with fatter rear ends and necks than wild geese, the result of farm selection for increased body weight. They may not now be kept by a farm, but have escaped or been released from one. Hope this helps! - MPF (talk) 08:10, 3 May 2024 (UTC)

Scientific name for the plant pickled gherkins are made of?
I read that you are a taxonomist. I am glad I found one on Commons, I hope you can help me on Commons:Categories for discussion/2024/03/Category:Pickled cucumbers. I am looking for the correct scientific names for (preferably) all the different types of cucumbers, but at least the small ones. It now looks like there is only one for the large ones we use in salads uptil the small ones where gherkins are made of, and everything in between: Cucumis sativus. Is that true? And does the proposal makes sense? Do you have a better solution? Please give your reaction on the discussion page. JopkeB (talk) 04:42, 31 May 2024 (UTC)

Hello MPF, Greetings! Do you recognize this bird:
Category:Carduelis carduelis in Spain
Hi. In 15 september 2013, you deleted this empty category: Category:Carduelis carduelis in Spain.
Now this category have 10 files and 1 subcategory; this is the reason I created again this category. --Drow male (talk) 09:37, 15 June 2024 (UTC)

Black swans
Regarding your edit at File:Black swans on the River Medina, Isle of Wight, England.jpg. I am fully aware that these are not a native species, as indeed I mentioned in the description. However, these ones were not in captivity. They presumably escaped from some park or something somewhere and then established themselves in the wild. I have seen them several times now. It is misleading to label them "captive". Perhaps we need a "feral" category. ITookSomePhotos (talk) 21:44, 15 July 2024 (UTC)
- True this is always a bit of a tricky situation! There is a feral subcategory, but that should only be used for established breeding non-native populations (i.e., in UK terms, on Category C on the British list, which Black Swan is not, though it is in e.g. New Zealand). If you really want a separate subcategory, perhaps 'escaped captive', as a subcategory of 'captive'? - MPF (talk) 21:53, 15 July 2024 (UTC)
