Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content). You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump. |

logos and users
Almost all of my logos were extracted from PDFs. I did not draw any of them by hand (except maybe the LSU logo, which I regret doing now). It is very, very important when uploading official logos that we represent the brand accurately. It is impossible to hand re-draw logos, and it is a pet peeve of mine. I normally search the university website for either a style/brand manual, or some sort of logo sheet. These are normally in PDF, and they normally have the logos already embedded in vector format. I then simply extract the logos from the PDF, save it as SVG, and reupload. And I only upload text-only logos which are ineligible for copyright protection. Anything more graphical than decorated text would qualify for copyright under US law, and thus could not be uploaded at the Commons.
What schools logos are you working on? Want me to help find some sources?
Finally, who is the abusive user in question? I'd be glad to personally look into the situation, but we also have a administrator noticeboard for reporting user conduct. Hope this helps, and hopefully we can work together in the future (sorry it took me a week to reply. I think I'll be online more often from now on). -Andrew c (talk) 22:10, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
