AbchyZa22

Some of you will probably remember AbchyZa22, who has been blocked on Commons for about 7 months. I have recently had some (pretty reasonable) email correspondence with them in which they have asked for an unblock, and I have their permission to share that correspondence. However, when I went to copy some of that to their user talk page I discovered that, at least according to Special:GlobalBlockList/AbchyZa22, they are globally blocked. Despite that, they have been successfully messages (about the correspondence) on my talk page on meta. Before I post to their user page, I'd like to understand what this means about the current status of their account: if they are globally blocked, how can they be leaving messages on that page? See m:Global blocks#Global account blocks, it seems globally-blocked accounts are only blocked on all projects except Meta, so they can still edit Meta if they are not blocked there. Thanks. Tvpuppy (talk) 20:07, 1 July 2026 (UTC)
Got it. And a further remark from AbchyZa22 at User talk:Jmabel#c-AbchyZa22-20260701204200-AbchyZa22-20260630075900: apparently (according to Count Count at meta:Steward requests/Global/2026-w25#Global Unblock for AbchyZa22) there is such a thing as a local exemption to a global block, news to me. Also there, Bedivere makes clear their opposition to AbchyZa22 being unblocked, including his having been unblocked on es-wiki.

I think their unblock would be detrimental to the project, but I would not mind if someone else would like and try to babysit this troublesome person. In other words, I disagree with their unblock but if there is consensus otherwise, I would accept it (as long as they stay well away from me, including not sending me emails, let alone talk page messages). Also trying to speedy delete my user page in response to me restoring those templates, and insulting other users on their talk page. No other contributions apart from uploading two deleted images. Harassment / Vandalism from USER:Belbury

This person keeps harassing me, can an Admin do something about him or her? The USER:Belbury keeps adding deletion requests for an image I'm using on MY TALK PAGE, The USER:Belbury keeps undoing speedy deletion templates from his talk page, Belbury needs a warning from Admin to stop him interfering with an image I'm using on my talkpage which is allowed!!! You did remove a speedy deletion template from your upload after a warning. You didn't replace it with a regular deletion request.
There has also already been a regular deletion request on this image at Commons:Deletion requests/File:AI HamiltonPalace.png, which decided yesterday that it should be deleted. Belbury (talk) 11:06, 2 July 2026 (UTC)
The USER:Belbury CLAIMED I Removed a "speedy deletion template" from my own upload, The USER:Belbury keeps stopping me from using this picture on my Talk webpage, he also stops me from editing my own photo to add a regular deletion request. @Vlaamse Club voor Kunsten, Wetenschappen en Letteren (1923): I'm a Commons administrator. I'm going to assume that your intentions are good, but there are two issues here:
  1. Special:Diff/1244539684, which Jeff G. linked to, is indistinguishable from vandalism. Please do any further experimenting at Commons:Sandbox, not by overwriting important project pages.
  2. Commons discourages account names that are names of organizations (as against individuals at those organizations) and most of our sister WMF projects ban them outright, if you were to use this account name on (for example) the English-language Wikipedia, you would almost certainly be blocked. Also, an account is intended to be operated by an individual, not function as a role account for several people. It would be perfectly OK to have an account name like "Pieter van Vlaamse Club voor Kunsten, Wetenschappen en Letteren" or "Pieter (Vlaamse Club voor Kunsten, Wetenschappen en Letteren)", and/or to have multiple such accounts for different people. If despite my advice you want to keep this account name, please read Commons:Username policy and follow the mandatory' instructions there for accounts with names of organizations. - Jmabel ! talk 23:43, 7 July 2026 (UTC)

Yann, thanks. This isn't very effective though: restricting moving to autoconfirmed has no effect, one must already be a file mover to do that. What I'm saying is that even file movers shouldn't attempt to move this file. Even admins shouldn't, only staff who can update foundationwiki/donatewiki should.
Restricting overwrites to autoconfirmed also has no effect, users that are not (auto)confirmed don't have the reupload right. Overwrites should be limited to at least autopatrollers, if not admins. Messing with this is arguably more disruptive than messing with something on Main Page.

Upload protection request

Hi! There are two Commons-hosted videos (and sets of translations) which we are planning to add to a sensitive policy-namespace page on foundationwiki. To prevent vandalism, I'd ask that these files be upload-protected (and limited to sysops):

@Yann: These would be added on policy pages indefinitely, and we'd like to avoid the potential of vandalism to policy pages through reuploads of these files. Would indefinite protection be okay? Oh, thanks for the note, I somehow missed that in the TOC :>. Re: other languages, yep, we use the translate extension to swap the filename between languages. I'm not sure if cascade protection is necessary atm, and also not sure how it works with the translate extension. This could be something to discuss at some point though.
