FYI: I've nominated this template for deletion here, as it's pretty much unused. I've also removed the quest to add it to each and every aviation related file's talk page from the project page. El Grafo (talk) 13:16, 9 October 2023 (UTC)

Info The template has now been removed from all file discussion pages (plus a couple of file description pages and two other pages). Last chance to speak up → here ← if you see ans reason to keep it around. El Grafo (talk) 09:02, 27 November 2023 (UTC)

Boeing msn/ln categories

One thing that has been bothering me for a while is that we have separate categories for Boeing aircraft manufacturer serial numbers (msn) and line numbers (ln). For those who don't know, most Boeing aircraft since the introduction of the 707 have two construction numbers; a unique manufacturer serial number and a line number (number built of the specific variant). An aircraft's msn and ln do not change and both serve as a unique identifier for said aircraft. Therefore, having separate categories does not make such sense in my opinion and needlessly complicates the categorization systems of Boeing aircraft.

My proposed solution is to merge the msn and ln categories for each individual aircraft. For example, Category:Boeing 747-8 (msn 37075) and Category:Boeing 747-8 (ln 1449) would become Category:Boeing 747-8 (msn 37075, ln 1449). I know this wouldn't be an easy task due to the need to merge thousands of categories, but if no one objects I'd like to get started on it. - ZLEA T\C 20:16, 21 May 2025 (UTC)

I had not seen this before. I object to your proposed change. As there are no other objections or approvals there is no consensus to your change, so the current categorisation should remain. Ardfern (talk) 18:29, 31 October 2025 (UTC)
What benefit is there to keeping them separate? - ZLEA T\C 18:34, 31 October 2025 (UTC)
The line number is assigned precisely according to the production progress of the type concerned, thus refelecting very closely the year an time of build.
The msn is usually already assigned when the order is placed. That means for an order for say 50 aircraft they get a block of sequential numbers (msns or c/ns) in sequence of their expected delivery. The delivery time is usualy spread over many years, therefore the first and last numbers in such a block may be 5 or 10 years apart.
For this reason, the current categorisation should remain. --Uli Elch (talk) 11:55, 31 January 2026 (UTC)

Recycled registration

Hello fellow aviation people,

I have come across a registration that has been recycled, it has been re-assigned to a new aircraft. There is already a category for that specific registration: Category:C-FXOO (aircraft) That registration was previously used for a Boeing 757-200 and is currently in use with a Dassault Falcon 900.

How are cases like this one handled? Wolfy13399 (talk) 22:19, 29 January 2026 (UTC)

Categorization requested

Hi all,

About 200 images were added to Category:Images of aircraft without registration category, most with the registration in the titles (usually Nxxxxx as they are mostly images from the US). These were uncategorized mass Flickr transfers by KMB1933 (talk · contribs). If anyone has time to categorize these images, it would be much appreciated. Thanks! 4300streetcar (talk) 05:15, 19 February 2026 (UTC)

I suggest that those 186 images should be moved to Category:Aircraft where they might be seen by aviation folk more likely to spot the need for categorization, and they can be separated from those 50 already in their current location that are mostly shots with bad focus or bad camera positioning. I have just cleared out cat:Aircraft of images ready to take the 186 subject images, and I'm happy to proceed with such a mass move. PeterWD (talk) 12:57, 19 February 2026 (UTC)
