Over all of Switzerland, about 88% speak German (64% natively and 24% as a second language). In South Tyrol 27% of people are not native speakers, those are Italians who migrated to South Tyrol in the past (a lot of them because of incentives of the Italian government) as it belonged to Austria before 1919.
