@Jeff G.: from what I can see, these are mostly issues like COM:TOYS, the limits of FoP in Canada, things like that. While I would hope that over time any given contributor starts to learn where the lines are on things like that, I do not see signs of "missing or false information" regarding sources, and the copyright status issues here are tricky ones. If you think Mindmatrix has actually been straight-out taking others' images and passing those off as their own (the implication of what you wrote), then after a bit of sampling I doubt that "most of the redlinked files above" meet those criteria, and you should be a lot more specific. - Jmabel ! talk 06:00, 22 March 2026 (UTC)

@Jeff G.: Speaking as an admin: I would certainly advise Mindmatrix to learn more about the subtleties of copyright so as not to waste other people's time, but that boilerplate was still excessive, and on these sort of violations, without the sort of specifics you have now added, was useless or worse. @Jeff G. and Jmabel: Before the middle of last year, I had a terrible internet connection with a bandwidth cap of 10-25 GB/month (with additional costs of $5-10 per GB). So when using tools like Flick2Commons (and frankly, for most sites except Commons), I disabled image loading. This meant that I could not see which files to omit during the upload process for bulk Flickr uploads, as the thumbnails were blocked from loading. Most of the files were appropriate for Commons, but there were certainly a few that were not. As you'll note from my editing history, as I come across such files, I nominate them for deletion. Sometimes, others find them first. I'm not intentionally uploading these files. Mindmatrix 17:42, 22 March 2026 (UTC)

Mindmatrix, now that you have a better connection, could you possibly take some time to skim through your own uploads looking for possible copyvios and nominating them for deletion, using speedy-deletion or Mass DRs when possible? File curation

Hi Mindmatrix, when you import files from Flickr, you need to properly curate them. File names on Flickr are rarely detailed enough for Commons; many of your recent uploads such as File:Gate (180924837).jpg and File:Just take it easy (14349536288).jpg are not compliant with Commons:File naming. Similarly, you need to add useful file descriptions (those already on Flickr files are rarely good for Commons) and specific categories. @Jeff G.: Batch uploads in Flickr2Commons provide no warning or other indication about a file having been previously uploaded or deleted. The thumbnail isn't sufficient to provide such information. A more practical solution here would be to salt the title on Commons once the file is deleted so that Flickr2Commons cannot upload the file. This would solve many of the problems with these kinds of uploads. Mindmatrix 01:28, 16 May 2026 (UTC)

@Jeff G.: Thanks for that. I've read the issue request you've linked, and it should be amended slightly. Flickr2Commons does provide a warning if a file already exists on Commons with that filename, but not if it has been deleted. (My mistake for the poor phrasing in my comment above.) That is to say:
