Geeklizzard's Mary Retzinger uploads

(I want to make it clear beforehand that in no way is this thread the fault of Geeklizzard.)

I saw Category:Recent unfree Flickr images yesterday (via my user page) and found that it had 40+ images; upon checking, I found that it had been overwhelmed with uploads by Geeklizzard

The uploads were attributed in this format: "From the collection of Mary Retzinger, CC-BY-4.0 licensed scans available on Flickr [Flickr URL]"

Initially I thought that the uploader had fucked up, and was ready to create a mass deletion request when I checked again and realised that FlickreviewR 2 was acting up and labelling all those images as CC BY-ND

Are any admins interested in blocking the bot or whatever? I can perform manual reviews as I'm an autopatroller. Whyiseverythingalreadyused (t · c · he/him) 02:38, 19 July 2026 (UTC)

Looks like someone has at least partly dealt with this, since Category:Recent unfree Flickr images is empty. - Jmabel ! talk 06:15, 19 July 2026 (UTC)
I manually reviewed all of them Whyiseverythingalreadyused (t · c · he/him) 06:29, 19 July 2026 (UTC)
The bot worked correctly. On 17th when the bot checked the license it was CC BY-ND 4.0. On 18th the license on flickr has been changed to CC BY 4.0. --Achim55 (talk) 06:03, 22 July 2026 (UTC)

Request protection of Symbols of Luhansk

I request protection for following files:

File:Coat of arms of Luhansk.svg, File:Flag of Luhansk.svg since these files are regularly rolled back by burner accounts such as User:Ik211999 and User:Ik195864 Ratskui (talk) 10:18, 20 July 2026 (UTC)

✓ Done semi-protected (autoconfirmed required), let's see if that does it. - Jmabel ! talk 19:15, 20 July 2026 (UTC)
Yeah they did it again :/ Ratskui (talk) 08:53, 23 July 2026 (UTC)
@Jmabel Whyiseverythingalreadyused (t · c · he/him) 11:46, 23 July 2026 (UTC)
Ah, I didn't notice that the "burner accounts" referred to were still around, unblocked. Will block. - Jmabel ! talk 14:43, 23 July 2026 (UTC)
✓ Done Now blocked. - Jmabel ! talk 14:48, 23 July 2026 (UTC)
Since they have rolled back those files again I think it would be ok to give full or autopatroller protection. Ratskui (talk) 06:31, 25 July 2026 (UTC)
@Ratskui and @Jmabel: the account responsible also vandalised File:Coat of arms of Kirovsk, Russia.png (diff). Would you be interested in extending protection to that file too? Whyiseverythingalreadyused (t · c · he/him) 06:42, 25 July 2026 (UTC)
Blocked Kl195864 and will give autopatroller protection to all relevant files. This is getting old. - Jmabel ! talk 07:22, 25 July 2026 (UTC)

File:ChangedBulletVector.svg

Requesting preemptive full upload protection. This image is used by w:en:MediaWiki:Gadget-SubtleUpdatemarker.css, which is part of the "Subtle update marker" default gadget on enwiki, which changes the update indicator on history pages, and as a part of that, changes the icon. This, in effect, causes ChangedBulletVector.svg to be used quite frequently (all history pages on one's watchlist, at minimum), and therefore should be protected. Thanks. OutsideNormality (talk) 04:52, 21 July 2026 (UTC)

✓ Done I've raised that to full upload & move protection. - Jmabel ! talk 17:40, 21 July 2026 (UTC)

Block request for User:CYCHHOSPITAL

CYCHHOSPITAL (talk · contributions · Move log · block log · uploads · Abuse filter log)  Username for spam or containing advertising purposes S8321414 (talk) 08:44, 23 July 2026 (UTC)

Looking at zh:Special:Log/Lion3311 (version in English), I believe I have found traces of an undisclosed paid editing operation for the hospital in question. Whyiseverythingalreadyused (t · c · he/him) 11:58, 23 July 2026 (UTC)
The Wikimedia Commons does not require disclosuring paid editing. Saimmx (talk) 03:24, 25 July 2026 (UTC)
@Whyiseverythingalreadyused: So report on zhwiki.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 13:26, 25 July 2026 (UTC)
I did say that on zhwiki. For some reason, the "no payment disclosure" guy is very opposed to my efforts. Whyiseverythingalreadyused (t · c · he/him) 13:27, 25 July 2026 (UTC)
@Whyiseverythingalreadyused: So the subject user is a sock? Commons:Deletion requests/File:嘉基院史館(前身為宣教護士宿舍)壁爐.jpg does not seem to be problematic.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 13:38, 25 July 2026 (UTC)
Not that meaning Whyiseverythingalreadyused (t · c · he/him) 13:58, 25 July 2026 (UTC)
Okay, why not talk about how I "opposed to (your) efforts", then? Policies and guidelines in Wikimedia Commons are very different to the Chinese Wikipedia (zhwiki). Something we can't do on the Chinese Wikipedia, may not that strict (and, in some cases, we may able to do it) on the Wikimedia Commons, and vice versa. If you are dissatisfied with what I did on zhwiki, discuss it there.
I am not sure if it is from language barriers, but I was unhappy with your comment of "For some reason, the "no payment disclosure" guy is very opposed to my efforts." - since I think you are accusing me hurting the project, which is not assuming good faith on both zhwiki (zh:WP:AGF) and the Commons (COM:AGF) If you feel that others misunderstand your words ("Not that meaning"), you may want to talk with me in Chinese.
---
我不確定是不是因為語言隔閡,我感覺你「For some reason, the "no payment disclosure" guy is very opposed to my efforts.」 Saimmx (talk) 17:44, 25 July 2026 (UTC)

I agree that paid editing as such is not necessarily a problem on Commons. So let me ask a different question of User:S8321414: are there edits by User:Saimmx that strike you as problematic? Copyright issues, false claims of "own work", edits on other people's uploaded files or reverts of edits on their own uploaded files that seem driven by an agenda counter to Commons' policies and educational scope? Things that amount to outright advertising? If so, there may be something here worth discussing. If no, then there is presumably no problem here. - Jmabel ! talk 20:28, 25 July 2026 (UTC)

I think the one who found my edits "problematic" is not S8321414, but Whyiseverythingalreadyused (). I was unsure which edit was problematic as well. Saimmx (talk) 13:56, 26 July 2026 (UTC)
Sorry! What I meant to ask of User:S8321414 was whether there are edits by User:CYCHHOSPITAL that strike them as problematic. I got confused by the crossfire. - Jmabel ! talk 18:50, 26 July 2026 (UTC)
Okay, I see.
As a reporter of the account on Chinese Wikipedia, I can provide some background - the name, "CYCHHOSPITAL", actually refers to a hospital called Chia-Yi Christian Hospital (CYCH) in Taiwan. The account was blocked on Chinese Wikipedia because their name is unacceptable there. I think they also failed to disclose paid editing, per zhwiki policy, while their editing on Chinese Wikipedia was also problematic because of the varying policy.
