English: Post Office building was built in 1896, after the plans signed by Dragutin Kapus, city architect, on the plot where the old Post Office from the eighteenth century used to stand. The builder was Franja Jenč. It is a two-wing building with a corridor in the middle, and a complex disposition of space to accommodate its function. It was designed in neo-renaissance style with influences of northern baroque applied to the roof decorative elements. With its rich plastic and specific programme it stands out among other public buildings in old downtown Zemun. Owing to the use of different materials, to its polychromatic façade and a complex roof plastic this building is a representative architectural monument. The interior of the building has been modernized but the spirit of architectural nineteenth century historicism has been preserved. The adaptation of the interior was done in 1961 and then at the end of the century. The Post Office building is one of the most important public buildings that document the historical and urban character of old downtown Zemun.
