Hiding spam

Deletion request

I nominated several of my own uploads for deletion, as I uploaded them believing I had taken them ( I have been to these locations myself), and have since realized this was not the case. I would like them deleted whenever someone has the time. Kingsmasher678 (talk) 17:23, 15 April 2026 (UTC)

Could you explain further what happened here (how someone else's photos came into your possession and appeared to you to be your own)? - Jmabel ! talk 20:42, 15 April 2026 (UTC)
I am a caver and have been to the places the pictures were taken, and taken pictures in some of them. I just forgot which ones I took and which others took till I went back through and realized I was in one of them. I have already removed them from the pages they were present on and replaced them. Kingsmasher678 (talk) 21:15, 15 April 2026 (UTC)
@Kingsmasher678: I still don't get it. Did other people's pictures end up stored on your camera? On your computer? Or what? - Jmabel ! talk 05:07, 16 April 2026 (UTC)
Ended up in my camera roll on my phone after we exchanged pictures after caving trips. Thought I took some I did not not. Remembered who took which ones. Asked to delete them.
I don't really understand why deleting them is an issue, I have already removed them from all pages that use them and have been very upfront with this. I would like to just move on, it is an embarrassing mistake to make. Kingsmasher678 (talk) 15:51, 16 April 2026 (UTC)
@Kingsmasher678: Now that you've explained, it sounds reasonable.
FWIW, fairly often we have someone who discovers they could get paid for a particular picture, but only if they aren't also offering it under a free license, and tries to get it deleted here on a somewhat fraudulent basis, so we are always on guard for that. - Jmabel ! talk 22:10, 16 April 2026 (UTC)
Nah, I license all of my photos under CC BY-SA 4.0, I don't do art for money. Have a good one! Kingsmasher678 (talk) 00:10, 17 April 2026 (UTC)

Revision deletion request

Hello. I am requesting the revision deletion of the following versions of File:Department of Education.svg:

Reason: I misunderstood the SVG license of https://simplemaps.com/resources/svg-license, which is the source where I got an SVG map of the Philippines. I uploaded 3 revisions of the file before realizing that https://simplemaps.com doesn't allow redistribution of the SVG code without permission.

Thanks. Ethan8192 (talk) 20:38, 15 April 2026 (UTC)

Tricky rollback situation

When a user spams talk pages without signing, SignBot comes by in their wake and adds a pseudo-signature. This makes it very hard to do a rollback by any method I know. Is there a way to deal with that? (This is with reference to the recently blocked SaltyAFcsar1, but the modus operandi is one I've seen quite a bit lately.) - Jmabel ! talk 05:38, 16 April 2026 (UTC)

This user you mentioned has posted a youtube link in my talkpage, I don't understand. Tisha Mukherjee (talk) 08:01, 16 April 2026 (UTC)
@Tisha Mukherjee: Hi, and welcome. That was spam. The mentioned user spammed 70 times before being blocked. This section is about dealing with the spam efficiently and effectively.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 09:05, 16 April 2026 (UTC)
@Jmabel: After reading the offending edit and the SignBot edit, my go-to link has been the "restore" link near the end of the lineitem for the last good revision on that page on that page's history. If that link doesn't appear, I edit that last good revision, ignore the warning, and save anyway. Complicating matters is the fact that the offending video's ID shows up in (apparently cached) regular search results on page Template:Nationaal Archief/ru, where that ID was removed back on 11 March. For Special:Diff/1198324088, when restore would have produced poor results, I used "undo" on the two edits together.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 08:59, 16 April 2026 (UTC)
@Jeff G.: Huh, I've never seen a "restore" link in the history; I wonder if it's from some configuration I don't have.
Yes, the "last good revision thing" is the usual way I do this manually, but it's really tedious to do for 70 or so files. I tried (and failed) to do a search for that URL with "insource:" and use some mass editing tool to get rid of this efficiently, but I did not have much success; kept having things remove only one or two of them, then choke. I'm afraid that at this scale, if I can't do it with a mass-action tool, and I can't just hit the history pages and click once or twice, I don't have the patience. - Jmabel ! talk 22:25, 16 April 2026 (UTC)
@Jmabel: Upon encountering such blatant spam, my first instinct is mass rollback on the first 500 results, then search the resulting page for "Reverted" and look for discontinuities to do more manual research with, and then continue with the next 500 results, ad infinitum, ad nauseum. I did not need to use "insource". I did a cursory look for the source of the "restore" link after "thank", but I couldn't find it; maybe it's in a gadget I use that you don't use.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 13:44, 17 April 2026 (UTC)
Yeah, I don't doubt that there are some people with tools that half-sanely attack this, but you've got to admit it is pretty unintuitive. Where there a tool for "mass rollback"? I certainly don't see anything at Commons:Mass rollback, where I'd expect such a thing to be explained. - Jmabel ! talk 18:23, 17 April 2026 (UTC)
@Jmabel I just so happen to have a few tools for massrollback.
I've got chuckbot, and I've got a script. Regarding the "restore link", I think that's a twinkle option, but our version is seriously behind the enwiki version. @Jeff G., you can manually change the "limit" value to any number less than 5000. it's really handy. All the Best -- Chuck Talk 19:12, 17 April 2026 (UTC)
@Alachuckthebuck: So would this tool work even though the SignBot edited after them? - Jmabel ! talk 19:50, 17 April 2026 (UTC)

Wiki Loves Earth in Wales 2026: Request for Mass Message

Hi! Is there someone who could help me with sending a mass message please? For Wiki Loves Earth in Wales 2026, we'd like to send a message to invite those who participated in previous years to take part this year. Here's text of the message (lang switched between Welsh and English), and here's the list of who we'd like it sent to. Thanks! / Diolch! Gemma Coleman (WMUK) (talk) 13:44, 16 April 2026 (UTC)

AI generated parody image

File:Morocco Celebrating 2025 Win.jpg is an AI-generated parody image and not actual free content, so I'm requesting a deletion

Cheers Kotthu (talk) 21:46, 17 April 2026 (UTC)

This is not the place to request deletion. Go to the page for that file and there should be an option as 'Nominate for deletion'.
Also, why do you think it isn't free, that AI makes a difference, or that the uploader didn't create it themselves and then licence it, as they claimed? Andy Dingley (talk) 23:33, 17 April 2026 (UTC)
I'm going off the general policy on wikipedia i've seen that AI-generated content isn't allowed, also that image isn't even depicting something real, it's mislabelled. But I apologize, I won't trouble you further. Kotthu (talk) 23:44, 17 April 2026 (UTC)
Andy Dingley, social media posts predate the image upload here, e.g. https://www.instagram.com/p/DTslvYIEsnU/ from January 19. So it's unlikely NorthBCSingh generated it themselves. Whether it's in scope I don't know. There has been a towel incident that various sources reported on, apparently some soccer player from Morocco stole the towel of a goalie from Senegal. Whether the various AI-generated images that are circulating of Moroccan soccer players celebrating around a trophy made of white towels are notable is to be determined. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 00:01, 18 April 2026 (UTC)

NC-ND Flickr licenses

Do files like File:Yukke Mucc.jpg tagged by the bot User:FlickreviewR 2 as having NC-ND CC licensing need to be tagged separately for speedy deletion per COM:CSD#F4 after the verifying the bot's assessment that the license fails COM:LJ is correct? FWIW, I did notify the uploader of the bot's assessment, but they blanked their user talk page. What, in general, happens after that the uploader of one of these files has been notified? Will the file be deleted as soon as an admin gets to it or does it need to be re-tagged? -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:15, 18 April 2026 (UTC)

@Marchjuly: That file is in Category:Recent unfree Flickr images, a member of Category:Unfree Flickr files. Admins should be monitoring the latter, at least.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 07:33, 18 April 2026 (UTC)

Closing Request: COM:VPC#FoP in Bangladesh

I am seeking an administrative review and formal closure of the discussion regarding Freedom of Panorama (FoP) in Bangladesh at COM:VPC#FoP in Bangladesh.

The discussion centers on the legal interpretation that physical structures in Bangladesh are not subject to copyright, as outlined in the COM:VPC#Legal Summary. The current status of the discussion is as follows:

Support: 11 votes (all from experienced editors).
 Oppose: 2 votes.
Status: Opposing arguments have been addressed via rebuttals, with no further response from those users for over one month, despite their continued activity on other projects.

I intend to begin implementing these changes, including policy revisions and undeletion requests, but require the following assistance first:

  1. Verification of Consensus: Can any admin verify that this proposal has reached a consensus? If confirmed, please apply a formal closing box to the discussion to finalize the decision at the end.
  2. Could a experienced editor assist in moving {{FoP-Bangladesh}} (and its associated translations) to a modern /i18n translation format? This will ensure better long-term maintenance.
  3. Under the proposal, physical buildings in Bangladesh are considered Public Domain (PD) because they are not copyrightable subjects. I am seeking input on the best technical approach:

Thank you for your assistance. Tausheef Hassan Auntu ✉Talk? 11:23, 18 April 2026 (UTC)

See Special:Diff/1199651326 for how I propose to resolve this. I request that my fellow admins allow at least 12 hours after this post I am making before closing the discussion at COM:VP/C. At that point, if there is no well-reasoned disagreement with Tausheef Hassan's remarks, we can close this the way he suggests. - Jmabel ! talk 18:05, 18 April 2026 (UTC)
