Object history
English: The official seal of Altstatt from the eighteenth century displays a single-headed Imperial eagle, which in conjunction with the letter “A” also appears on several boundary stones of the eighteenth century and (with an inescutcheon) likewise adorns the shield of the manorial inn “Zum schwarzen Adler” (“To the Black Eagle”), documented since 1667, as the town belonged until 1806 to the Free Court of Kaichen and thereby to the Imperial Castle of Friedberg. In order to distinguish the Altenstadt civic arms from the numerous other Upper Hessian eagle arms, the arms officially granted on 30 October 1952 unite the single-headed eagle of the seal with the distinctive mark of the boundary stones.
