Something that should be discussed, which I don't have time for in the immediate, is the intersection of nations where trophies are able to be depicted under FOP laws, and the laws of depicting trophies in their nation of origin. (e.g. in the UK, trophies are explicitly a "work of artistic craftsmanship", which are explicitly allowed under FOP, so a CC photo of a UK-made trophy depicted in a public setting in the UK, could not be considered copyvio)
Based on these being UEFA trophies, intention-based interpretation per Commons:Freedom of panorama/Europe may be needed. Kingsif (talk) 22:58, 3 December 2025 (UTC)
The UWCL trophy was designed and manufactured in Milan by an Italian company. Italy has a notoriously high level for a design to be deemed copyrightable above the threshold of originality: COM:TOO Italy. UEFA (based in Switzerland though that seems irrelevant in the apt context), holds IP over the trophy, but this isn't copyright and would be tagged like trademark if determined the trophy does not reach Italian TOO. Also, UEFA lost the legal case to copyright the men's Euro trophy, so if you've deleted images of that on this argument, they should probably be restored. It also provides precedent that UEFA cannot copyright its trophies because their design is too similar to other trophies.
That would probably render it moot, if not copyrightable then no need to consider FOP, there's nothing needing it. Kingsif (talk) 23:17, 3 December 2025 (UTC)
  • Speedy keep Actually it was quite simple. UEFA has registered designs for one trophy (see the lack of others here). Which is this one , which is not the UWCL trophy. Between lack of UEFA registration, Italian (design origin of trophy) TOO and precedent of denied copyright, seems easy that there's no applicable copyright, no DW. Tag for trademark and keep.
