File:Putney Pushing CCTV.webm

The licnes used for CCTV footage is not applicable to the United Kingdom where this footgae was captured. The UK does not as far as I know have an exception for security camera footage with a known author. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 05:11, 18 June 2026 (UTC)

Nevertheless, this footage has author, or it was captured in fully automatic mode? In second case, copyright can't exist. Evelino Ucelo (talk) 15:24, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
United Kingdom doesn't have an exception for automated capture as I understood, If you have a link to relevant UKIPO guidance or English caselaw, please cite it here :)

ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 16:23, 18 June 2026 (UTC)

  • Comment if this video is deleted, then so must the rest of the content in the Putney Pusher category, as they are also CCTV footage. Also worth noting that all the footage was released by Met Police, if that makes a difference. I am unsure on whether the above statements are true; to my knowledge, CCTV footage generally is public domain as it requires no human input. This particular footage was captured from a bus automatically. jolielover♥talk 02:53, 25 June 2026 (UTC)

File:Abdul Rahman Abdul Hamid in February 1993.jpg

Delete. The current public-domain claim appears invalid. The file is not merely a reproduction of a newspaper's published edition, but a cropped photograph published in The Straits Times on 24 February 1993. While Singapore law provided a limited term of protection for published editions, that does not automatically place the underlying photograph itself in the public domain. No information has been provided regarding the photographer, the original source of the photograph, the circumstances of its creation, or the copyright status of the underlying image. The photograph was published in 1993 and therefore would clearly still have been under copyright protection on the URAA restoration date of 1 January 1996. Consequently, even if the newspaper's published-edition right has since expired, that alone is insufficient to demonstrate that the underlying photograph is free in the United States. The file currently lacks any evidence showing that the photograph itself was in the public domain in its source country on the URAA date or that it otherwise qualifies for Commons. The fact that the image dates from the former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad era, or depicts a historically significant Malaysian military figure, is irrelevant to the copyright analysis. Historical significance does not create a copyright exception. Commons requires verifiable evidence that the underlying work is freely licensed or in the public domain in both the source country and the United States. Without evidence establishing the copyright status of the underlying photograph, the current licensing claim cannot be verified and the file fails COM:PRP. ~2026-35414-11 (talk) 08:20, 18 June 2026 (UTC)

You must read again about license who issued by singapore government that in the license not stated that file not must under U.S. public domain. You can see preview of Template:PD-SG-edition and there is not stated that the file must under U.S. public domain. If system ask to list the U.S. license at once with SG license, I don't want to upload that file because it could lead to problems later. I hope you understand. Thank you. Elfath1421 (talk) 08:43, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
The issue is not whether Template:PD-SG-edition itself mentions a U.S. public-domain tag. Commons licensing policy independently requires that files be free both in the source country and in the United States. PD-SG-edition only addresses the copyright status of a published edition under Singapore law. It does not establish that the underlying photograph was in the public domain on the URAA restoration date or otherwise free in the United States. Therefore the copyright status of the underlying photograph remains unresolved. ~2026-35414-11 (talk) 10:04, 18 June 2026 (UTC)

File:Women police in Singapore 1950.jpg

Delete. Although this photograph may now be in the public domain in Singapore, that alone is insufficient for Commons. The file description itself acknowledges that the work may still be copyrighted in the United States because copyright was restored under the URAA if the work remained protected in Singapore on 1 January 1996. According to the licensing information, this is a Singapore government photograph taken in 1950. Under Singapore copyright law, such photographs remained protected well beyond 1996. Therefore the work was not in the public domain in its source country on the URAA date, and U.S. copyright restoration is a serious concern. Commons requires works to be free both in the source country and in the United States. A comparable case was discussed at Commons:Deletion requests/File:Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (most left) and Tun Dr Siti Hasmah (far right) sitting around the table with their classmates at King Edward VII College of Medicine, Singapore.jpg, where an old Singapore photograph from the late 1940s or early 1950s was deleted specifically due to URAA concerns ("Deleted: per nomination -URAA copyright."). The same principle appears applicable here. Unless evidence can be provided demonstrating that the photograph is free in the United States despite URAA restoration concerns, the file does not meet Commons licensing requirements and should be deleted. ~2026-35414-11 (talk) 12:14, 18 June 2026 (UTC)

File:Francis Thomas in 1950, teaching a class.jpg

Delete. The file is currently licensed only under PD-SG-photo. While a photograph taken in 1950 may now be in the public domain in Singapore because more than 70 years have passed since it was taken, that alone is insufficient for Commons. According to Commons licensing requirements, a work must be free both in its source country and in the United States. This photograph was taken in 1950 and was still under copyright protection in Singapore on the URAA restoration date of 1 January 1996. Therefore, U.S. copyright restoration must be considered. No U.S. public-domain license or evidence addressing the file's status under the URAA has been provided. A similar issue was previously discussed at Commons:Deletion requests/File:Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (most left) and Tun Dr Siti Hasmah (far right) sitting around the table with their classmates at King Edward VII College of Medicine, Singapore.jpg, where an old Singapore photograph was deleted because it remained protected on the URAA date and therefore could not be hosted on Commons. Without evidence demonstrating that this photograph is also free in the United States, the current licensing claim is incomplete and the file does not satisfy Commons licensing requirements. ~2026-35414-11 (talk) 12:16, 18 June 2026 (UTC)

File:Maria Hertogh and Mansoor Adabi, 1950.png

Delete. Although the file is tagged with PD-SG-photo, the photograph appears to have remained under copyright in Singapore on the URAA restoration date of 1 January 1996. The image was taken in 1950 and published by The Straits Times, but there is no evidence that its copyright had expired in Singapore by 1996. As a result, U.S. copyright would have been restored under the URAA. Commons requires works to be free both in the source country and in the United States. This is similar to the reasoning accepted at Commons:Deletion requests/File:Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (most left) and Tun Dr Siti Hasmah (far right) sitting around the table with their classmates at King Edward VII College of Medicine, Singapore.jpg, where a Singapore photograph from the late 1940s–early 1950s was deleted due to URAA concerns. Delete. The file is tagged with PD-SG-photo on the basis that it was taken in 1950. However, even if the photograph is now in the public domain in Singapore, there is no evidence that it was in the public domain in Singapore on the URAA restoration date of 1 January 1996. A photograph taken in 1950 would clearly still have been under copyright protection at that time, resulting in restoration of U.S. copyright under the URAA. Commons requires works to be free both in the source country and in the United States. This is consistent with Commons:Deletion requests/File:Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (most left) and Tun Dr Siti Hasmah (far right) sitting around the table with their classmates at King Edward VII College of Medicine, Singapore.jpg, which was deleted due to URAA concerns involving a Singapore photograph from the late 1940s–early 1950s. File:David Baszucki 1985 yearbook.png

As this is a photograph and not "a printed literary, musical, or dramatic work", the lack of a year in the copyright notice would not have rendered it defective. The photo is therefore still considered to be copyrighted. – Howardcorn33 (💬) 12:28, 18 June 2026 (UTC)

Comment, note that this might be likely a printed literary work (book), not a photograph per the stanford.edu source, the resource type is classified as text and its genre is yearbooks. According to copyright.gov source, it says a literary work is a work that is expressed in words, numbers, symbols, rather than a dramatic or novel work, the work likely sits in the category "Book (Fiction / Non-Fiction)", "Text w/Artwork included", and "Serial Publications". Cropping the photo is still a derivative work of stanford quad yearbook. (note that I am not attorney) Artemhao (talk) 14:14, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
I believe the law would treat the copyright of the two elements of a publication (the printed text and the photos) differently. I interpret the guide as saying a copyright notice within a publication which would not apply for literary text, but would for photos, means that the notice does protect the photos within such a publication without providing protection for text. – Howardcorn33 (💬) 16:35, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
Delete, actually, since we have COM:PRP, i think I'd choose the vote to delete, because I am unsure if the photo is a derivative work of photograph or literary. Artemhao (talk) 16:32, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
That information is for before 1978 only from 1978-89 2207.7(E) says "The year of publication may be omitted from a notice when a pictorial, graphic, or sculptural work with accompanying text (if any) is reproduced in or on greeting cards, postcards, stationery, jewelry, dolls, toys, or a useful article." this meets none of them but 2205.1(E) also says the year of a periodical can be considered part of the notice 999REAL 💬 18:38, 18 June 2026 (UTC)

However, there is no evidence that the underlying photograph was in the public domain in Singapore on the URAA restoration date of 1 January 1996. The photograph was taken in 1950 and no evidence has been provided showing that it was already in the public domain in Singapore on the URAA restoration date. English: This file was initially tagged by %USER% as Speedy - I would challenge that request. This is a genuinely old map (per description from 1800; which means either that year, or any point in the 18th century; or any point in the 19th century. Stylistically, I would suggest this is 1860s or later).

Whenever it was made, this is old enough to not be copyrighted. "Own request" only is valid for seven days after upload, we are now past that deadline.

However, I do prefer full maps being uploaded, and that those maps are not digitally smeared upon. So I could imagine a deletion based on "low quality".

Historical photographs which have been modified using AI software. Under COM:AIIP, links to the original source images must be provided for comparison.

Belbury (talk) 14:10, 18 June 2026 (UTC)

@Belbury I'll upload the originals as well. I didn't do it originally because they are very bad. This is a cropped online copy of one of them (modified version)-- باسم (talk) 21:55, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
Thanks! Off-site links are enough, although originals are preferable if possible, as it means that projects that disallow the AI upscaling of historical images (such as the English and German Wikipedias) can use them instead. Belbury (talk) 22:02, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
@Belbury ✓ Done. Check below please. Is it necessary to crop Abdülhâlik Nasuhi from the original picture as well, or is it enough since the original photo is now available?-- باسم (talk) 07:55, 19 June 2026 (UTC)

File:Brasão Frantz.jpg

Looks like self-promotion, out of scope and/or COM:NOTHOST GerritR (talk) 18:42, 18 June 2026 (UTC)

GerritR, the purpose of publishing this coat of arms was not promotion, but just making easily available a symbol which was actually adopted by some branches of a very large brazilian family, in order that all branches might find it and decide wether they will adopt it or not. just that. Commons files are not required to be used only on Wiki projects, but are made available to all people for all purposes. Coats of arms are symbols of identity, of a shared history, they have meaning and social and historical value. we have on Commons thousands of coats of arms, they were published to provide relevant information about families (as this one I'm sure does), and many of them are not in current use. why precisely this one has to be deleted? this file, since its publication here, was viewed 1.333 times, so, it seems there is significant interest in it. tetraktys (talk) 19:39, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
It's newly invented, and the purpose is to promote a family. So there is no eduacational value. GerritR (talk) 18:53, 20 June 2026 (UTC)
GerritR, every CoA was invented in some point of time. tons of CoAs are currently being invented, by official institutions or private users, and still they are valid. the date is not relevant to the discussion. and the purpose was not to promote a family. you keep saying that without any proof and don't listen to my arguments. the purpose was to create a symbol of identity for a specific family, as every other CoA was intended to do. that's what heraldry does. this CoA was actually adopted, it's a fact of the world, and can be used by anyone for many purposes, including educational, as every other CoA. but you decided that this one is entirely different from the others. I can't see why. tetraktys (talk) 21:55, 26 June 2026 (UTC)
