Comment: I'm not sure about this category move, because: If Gerhard Richter did not accept the photos here (he is 93 years old and a well-known German artist), they have to be deleted, because there is no FOP in Germany inside churches or other buildings. --176.1.13.166 22:23, 9 June 2025 (UTC)

Other idea for this move: Only the content of the category should be moved to the new name. The templates have the category directly in the template, so the bot can move them.

Therefore I created Category:Category navigational templates for municipalities in Cuba, then the bot can't move the category, but only all templates in the category.

Afterwards, the old category can and should be refilled with 3 subcategories and 3 templates that are now in Category:Category navigational templates for country subdivision. —176.1.10.36 17:43, 29 July 2025 (UTC)

I don’t understand any Czech, but please read the editnotice above the edit window or read the beginning of this page: no controversial moves here.

Looking at the two version histories of the category now and of the target name of the category, I see some kind of edit war since yesterday about the name of the category, a revert after the move and the category not being anymore on the name, where the older category versions since 2024 were. These are on the target name now, therefore I think, the redirect shouldn’t be deleted now with those old category versions. Is it possible to get the old category versions until yesterday back to the actual category name which has been edited very much since yesterday by merging all those versions there? I’ve rarely seen a Commons category which has been edited so much on one day by so many different users. And please note that there are 1,291 files in that category, so that every move is a big workload for bot and servers. There really has to be a consensus first for a category name, where it can stay without further moves. Replace images with .svg version

An editor has requested comment from other editors for this discussion. If you have an opinion regarding this issue, feel free to comment below.

I am active in the SVG project, converting raster graphics into scalable vector graphics (mainly coat of arms). The new images have a better quality but I always need to replace all occurrences of the old image in all articles, templates and in all language wikis by hand which sometimes takes longer than creating the new .svg image. I know that the bot currently will not replace raster graphics with a .svg file. This rule was made 15 years ago (in 2007 maybe .svg were not that popular), has the opinion about this rule changed or is there room for a new discussion?

As I am creating .svgs from raster graphics I need to replaces the old image manually on all sites in all MediaWiki occurrences (Wikipedia (all languages), Wikidata,...). Maxwxyz (talk) 08:52, 17 July 2022 (UTC)

Mostly, because a few svg enthusiasts did very bad conversions to svg, guessing colors etc. and communities got pissed off because we were replacing correct pngs with incorrect svg interpretations of those pngs. —TheDJ (talk • contribs) 15:17, 6 August 2025 (UTC)

 Support I strongly plead for allowing CommonsDelinker to replace PNG with SVG files because in most cases the SVG is much better and should be used instead. ChemSim (talk) 21:22, 19 June 2025 (UTC)

 Comment Upgraded to RFC and listed at Template:Centralized discussion. My proposal is now:

• remove the technical restriction from CommonsDelinker making it refuse PNG to SVG replacements
• make a rule "a user may request maximally 3 PNG to SVG replacements per 24 hours, requests moved by a sysop from an accessible page to a protected page where CommonsDelinker picks them from do NOT count to the limit"

 Oppose SVG being a text format and not a graphics format leads to issues that do not exist with JPG/PNG. Automated changes without regard for local policy and opinion is a bad idea. Traumnovelle (talk) 22:13, 2 March 2026 (UTC)

As an admin, I'm going to say that consensus here is clear, and we do not need further discussion about whether to drop this restriction. However, I don't know how to drop the restriction in the bot that does the file moves, nor who normally maintains that bot. Can someone weigh in on that. - Jmabel ! talk 00:54, 5 February 2026 (UTC)
