From newspaper The Sun (New York NY) June 22, 1918; p.3 "Czecho-Slovaks To Parade - Contingent Will Start Soon for Battle Front. Ninety Czecho-Slovaks, who expect to go to France soon, marched yesterday to the Federal Building and had their permits vised by Rufus W. Sprague,Jr., who has charge of aliens. They were led by Sergeant James Kubis. When the first part of the task was over the men marched to the Custom House, where they got passports. The flags of the United States and France were carried on each side of the new Czecho-Slovak flag which was presented to the command by Mrs. Gutzen Borglum, wife of the sculptor. The flag attracted much attention. A blue field in the centre carries four white stars representing Bohemia, Moravia, Silesia and Slovakia. The field is bordered with red and white stripes."
