Request for update of protected template PD-Cuba

Cuba has enacted a new copyright law in 2022, repealing the previous one from 1977. Notably, the new law removed the provision for perpetual copyright to government works, which now enter the public domain 50 years after being published. The CRT page COM:CUBA has been updated to reflect the new law, but the Template:PD-Cuba has not, since it's protected. I request the due update of this template. Solon 26.125 10:36, 21 July 2026 (UTC)

@Solon26125: Hi. Please suggest changed language that corresponds with these changes this year.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 11:41, 21 July 2026 (UTC)
@Jeff G.: Due to the 1977 law being in force at the time of Cuba's URAA date, nothing changes at the second column. At the first one, corporate and government works now have no special provision, and works by them without an identified author enter the public domain 50 years after publication, otherwise copyright expires 50 years after said author(s) death (except photographs and applied art). Anonymous works enter the public domain 50 years after publication, except photographs and works of applied art. Photographs and works of applied art are protected for 25 years after their creation. Note 2 shall be removed. It should also be added, perhaps before the columns, what is not subject to copyright:
a) the idea itself, which serves as the basis for the creation of the work
b) the data and the fact itself
c) the procedure, the formula, the solution, the system, the principle, the discovery, the innovation, the algorithm, the method of operation or the mathematical concept itself
d) the official text of a legislature, administrative or judicial nature, nor it's official translation;
e) political speeches and speeches delivered in judicial or parliamentary debates, nor their official translation, without prejudice to the author's exclusive right to compile them
f) the news of the day and of an event that has the character of simple press information. Solon 26.125 12:24, 24 July 2026 (UTC)

Rename a series of pictures

Checkmark This section is resolved and can be archived. If you disagree, replace this template with your comment. Jmabel ! talk 19:18, 22 July 2026 (UTC)

Hi, I'm working on wikisource on Euclid tome 2. I've successfully uploaded pictures, but a group of 2 pages was missing in the original pages from bnf. They are present in the djvu. It creates a shift in the names of the following pics (upload on 2026-05-03 11:55):

The 2 missing pages were 414 415, so that all this pics should have a page number increased by 2.

I tried the rename button on the fig p448 → to p450, (demand ok) but after that, in decreasing order, the interface refuses the rename (due to name collision p446 → p448).

Please, could an administrator rename these pics: range of pages should become p416 to p450. Sorry for the mistake. I will rectify the names for the few last pages after 450. Best regards TeddyBoomer (talk) 12:40, 21 July 2026 (UTC)

✓ Done - Jmabel ! talk 19:18, 22 July 2026 (UTC)
Thanks @Jmabel; in fact, the numbers were ok in wikisource;
I refixed your zeal and have uploaded the lacking pics.
Everything is fine now!
Many thanks, best regards TeddyBoomer (talk) 21:31, 22 July 2026 (UTC)
  • @TeddyBoomer: the numbers were ok in wikisource : if something like that comes up again, then you should be specific about not wanting "move and replace" which is what is wanted some 99% of the time. Normally, if you move a file and fail to do that, you break references all over the place. Best practice is that if a page wants to link a formal filename rather than a particular actual file, it should use a template so that "move and replace" won't affect that filename. - Jmabel ! talk 00:48, 23 July 2026 (UTC)

Seemingly malfunctioning bot

Context: I removed several hundred instances, posted on user's talk page, and user re-added hundreds more (removing now). Bot issue? Language barrier? ―Justin (koavf)TCM 08:03, 22 July 2026 (UTC)

My wrong use of deletion request instead of speedy deletion

Commons:Deletion requests/File:Cristiano Ronaldo and Austin MacPhee at World Cup 2026.webp. Image comes from Reuters. I wrongfully chose deletion requests instead of speedy deletion request. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contributions) 07:51, 22 July 2026 (UTC)

Usually easiest just to comment to that effect in the DR: "This can probably be handled as a speedy" (and then on what grounds). - Jmabel ! talk 19:20, 22 July 2026 (UTC)

Fix PAGENAME in archived messages

The following user talk archive pages uses {{PAGENAME}} which renders incorrectly now since it also renders /Archive which it obviously didn't before it was archived. Can any admin please replace it with subst:ROOTPAGENAME? I've fixed all but these that are admin protected.

Hello. Requesting protection for deceased User:Gobonobo. Pingnova and Myotus are attempting to obtain a verifiable source, and they have been informed this user died in April. Request for closure of a deletion requests: File:PTonge.jpg

Requesting uninvolved admin to close stale DR (open 8 weeks, no opposition)

This deletion request has been open since 31 May 2026. The nominating administrator, @Ankry: , indicated on 3 June 2026 that the file was likely out of scope and open to courtesy deletion if unopposed within seven days. No opposition has been raised in the ~8 weeks since. Ankry has today (@Ankry: , 24 July 2026) confirmed they are unable to close the discussion themselves as they are not neutral.

I am the identifiable subject of the file and would be grateful if an uninvolved administrator could review and close this DR. ZQS 000ZQS (talk) 05:55, 25 July 2026 (UTC)

Request to close stale deletion request: File:Agustina Arumsari, Wakil Kepala BGN.jpg

Hello administrators,

I am requesting a formal closure of this deletion request: Commons:Deletion requests/File:Agustina Arumsari, Wakil Kepala BGN.jpg.

The nominator (User:MesinKetik) has been completely inactive and has not responded to the discussion for over a month. I have already provided official, authentic government source links (bgn.go.id) proving that this is an official press and publication photograph, and absolutely NOT AI-generated.

Since the nomination is completely baseless and the nominator has abandoned the discussion, could an administrator please review the evidence and close this request as Keep?

Thank you. Ryuji takeda (talk) 13:03, 25 July 2026 (UTC)

Welcoming

Hi dear fellows, in my opinion is not a good idea to welcome all users, vandals and spammers especially, I think welcoming should not be an automatic process, it would be done manually only to users who demonstrate good intentions, as occurs on other wikis. Welcome manager (talk) 18:07, 25 July 2026 (UTC)

Agreed, but it's such a minor issue that I'd rather welcome some people we don't want, rather than wasting the time of humans on doing it with better targetting.
'Welcoming' here is mostly about posting a page of links. Useful stuff, but obviously automatic and a little insincere. There's still always opportunity for real humans to post real messages of welcome as well. Andy Dingley (talk) 18:31, 25 July 2026 (UTC)
ISECHIKA or locked user case... Too fast to Add welcome message. I think to set a time interval is the best way for us to solve this problem. For example, welcoming bot waits for up to one day to add welcome message, and if the user was set locked or blocked until it added welcome message, welcoming bot disables an automatic process like this.
