@A1Cafel: Which "problematic images"? Yann (talk) 14:24, 18 July 2026 (UTC)
File:Taani kuninga Frederik X ja kuninganna Mary riigivisiit, 27.01.2026 (55063926740).jpg and File:Taani kuninga Frederik X ja kuninganna Mary riigivisiit, 27.01.2026 (55063926730).jpg--A1Cafel (talk) 14:35, 18 July 2026 (UTC)
@The Sergei: I see you are continuing to edit. Any explanation for what is going on here? - Jmabel ! talk 19:31, 18 July 2026 (UTC)
I didn't know whether those two images were problematic or not, because I was using Flickr and it was uploading them automatically. I think I could have uploaded these images at the same time when I uploaded these images in June 2026 (Which date is January 2026) https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Tahtekoalitsiooni_kohtumine_Pariisis,_06.01.2026_(55027226694).jpg The Sergei (talk) 03:27, 19 July 2026 (UTC)
@The Sergei: what do you mean by it was uploading them automatically? What is the "it" in this case? Are you saying that Flickr uploaded these and you somehow did not do it yourself? That does not make any sense.
Also: the two files A1Cafel is complaining about, you uploaded just 2 days ago, whereas File:Tahtekoalitsiooni kohtumine Pariisis, 06.01.2026 (55027226694).jpg you uploaded a month ago so, no, you did not upload them at the same time. But even if you had: you are fully responsible for each file you upload. You may not upload pictures of other people's copyrighted artwork, even if some other site (Flickr, in this case) does not police that closely. - Jmabel ! talk 06:12, 19 July 2026 (UTC)
I meant when I upload from Flickr to Wikimedia by putting the link, but NOT downloading the images to my gallery. Although for the majority of images and videos marked for deletion, NO ONE even responds regarding whether to keep or delete them. And if Flickr allows me to upload these two images or whatever else despite that images are secretly protected by copyright, perhaps the Wikimedia site itself doesn't have a function to block the uploading of such files due to copyright protection. The Sergei (talk) 07:32, 19 July 2026 (UTC)
@The Sergei: Hi, There is nothing "automatic". You uploaded these files to Commons in copying them from Flickr. Many people publish things on the Internet, which they are not allowed to do, including to Flickr. So you are responsible for checking their copyright before uploading. I deleted some of your files, and added to the blacklist. Yann (talk) 08:51, 19 July 2026 (UTC)
https://www.flickr.com/photos/stenbockimaja/albums/72177720334501055/with/55371255177 Can I upload these 7 images? They are the last ones left, though I could also upload images related to Europe Day and the fight against homophobia (the dates are May 7 and if I am not mistaken about 17); I haven't uploaded them yet, however, because I didn't found categories to add for them. And about the NB8 summit in June, I haven't had time to upload more else yet. I wonder which images were deleted? I remember something about the 62nd MSC. The Sergei (talk) 09:24, 19 July 2026 (UTC)
@The Sergei: those all look fine, but I can see what you are tripping over.
When you upload a third-party image, whether from Flickr or elsewhere, you are responsible for working out the copyright issues before you upload. We don't expect perfection, but you are expected to have at least a firm grasp of the obvious. The two photos singled out by A1Cafel were clearly, in large part, pictures of someone else's artwork, so it was incumbent on you to work out the copyright status of the artwork before uploading. It doesn't matter that some other person or website claims to offer a license: they cannot license something to which they don't own the copyright, and if you want to upload to Commons, you are responsible to understand that.
I'm not going to sanction you at this time, but if this happens again I (or another admin) will almost certainly impose a block. I strongly recommend that you read COM:THIRD#Understanding copyright, and also COM:Derivative works. - Jmabel ! talk 17:52, 19 July 2026 (UTC)

  • @Petro Stelte: No need to indefblock. Yes, FPC sometimes a quite nervous page but minis one photographer who can take professional shots is a pain. You may take more participation on COM:QIC instead. Юрий Д.К. 21:22, 18 July 2026 (UTC)
  • @Petro Stelte: I can only echo Юрий Д.К.’s words. IMHO an indefinite block would be inappropriate (and I wonder whether it makes any sense at all that people can request an indefinite block for themselves; I don’t think so). Petro, the actual reason is that you are upset about FPC (actually I understand this very well ;–). But that is no reason to leave Commons. People often leave FPC, but stay on Commons, and some have told me they are quite happy now because without the discussions and emotions on FPC they have more time for their photos and really enjoy this. Please give it a try. I would really miss your beautiful and highly valuable photos, and I am sure other ones would miss them, too. Best, – Aristeas (talk) 09:26, 19 July 2026 (UTC)

Geeklizzard's Mary Retzinger uploads

(I want to make it clear beforehand that in no way is this thread the fault of Geeklizzard.)

I saw Category:Recent unfree Flickr images yesterday (via my user page) and found that it had 40+ images; upon checking, I found that it had been overwhelmed with uploads by Geeklizzard

The uploads were attributed in this format: "From the collection of Mary Retzinger, CC-BY-4.0 licensed scans available on Flickr [Flickr URL]"

Initially I thought that the uploader had fucked up, and was ready to create a mass deletion request when I checked again and realised that FlickreviewR 2 was acting up and labelling all those images as CC BY-ND

Are any admins interested in blocking the bot or whatever? I can perform manual reviews as I'm an autopatroller. Whyiseverythingalreadyused (t · c · he/him) 02:38, 19 July 2026 (UTC)

Looks like someone has at least partly dealt with this, since Category:Recent unfree Flickr images is empty. - Jmabel ! talk 06:15, 19 July 2026 (UTC)
