Revision deletion request for file (history) and page history
I accidentally uploaded a version of this file with GPS coordinates in its EXIF metadata:
File:CASIO G-Shock GW-M5610U.jpg
A new version without the GPS data has since been uploaded, but the original file revision still contains the location information. An earlier revision of the file description page also displays the GPS coordinates.
Could an administrator please revision-delete the affected file revision and the page revision(s) containing the GPS coordinates? The location data was uploaded unintentionally, and I'd like it removed for privacy reasons. Skyline Endeavourer (talk) 07:35, 4 July 2026 (UTC)
Done --Yann (talk) 09:56, 4 July 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you, @Yann.
- I noticed that the GPS coordinates are still visible in the page history because they were added to the edit summary ("Camera location"). The first affected revision is:
- Since the coordinates appear in the page history from that revision onward, could those affected page revisions (or their edit summaries) also be revision-deleted? Skyline Endeavourer (talk) 10:11, 4 July 2026 (UTC)
Done OK, first version deleted. Yann (talk) 10:18, 4 July 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you, @Yann.
- I was referring to the page history rather than the file history. While the original file revision has been deleted, the GPS coordinates are still recoverable through the page history because they were added by the edit summary ("Bot: Inserted location tag from EXIF.") and carried forward in subsequent revisions.
- Would it be possible to revision-delete the affected page revisions (or suppress the relevant edit summaries), from the 00:19, 14 August 2025 revision by Rkieferbot upto up to the 20:03, 2 July 2026, so that the unintentionally uploaded GPS coordinates are no longer accessible anywhere in the page history? User:PjotrMahh1
Nyttend and I have butted heads with PjotrMahh1 (talk · contribs) recently over categories related to cruise ships. Judging from PjotrMahh1's talk page, they appear to not be a native English speaker, so I'm willing to give some leeway. However, their tone when writing in English is brusque and insulting, so I'd rather have the community weigh in.
PjotrMahh1 is creating a mess of very specific, very underpopulated categories related to individual cruise ships in individual ports, plus a smaller hierarchy of parent categories which appear to exist more for the sake of creating "a consistent scheme of categories" than to support content. Then again, that happens a lot on this site by people who merely copy what Wikipedia does.
Besides their tone, I've seen lots of issues with their competence, which is the main reason for bringing this here. As Nyttend and I have both attempted to assert, United States locales follow the convention of (city, state) in category names, with the exception of about two dozen major cities identified in journalistic style guides. PjotrMahh1 has repeatedly ignored this and given "too stupid" and made comments like this as justification. Besides their pet categories, they've attempted to impose this naming convention on upstream categories, resulting in redlinked parent cats rather than linking to any similarly-named cats which actually exist. For example, their created hierarchy for Jacksonville, Florida is cut off from that tree because the upstream category is Transport in Jacksonville rather than Transport in Jacksonville, Florida. Now multiply that by the number of times they've made those same edits for various locales. Strike one. I attempted to correct this with a handful of category trees back in May. PjotrMahh1 came along later and reversed it in at least one instance via a cut-and-paste move rather than using the move tool. Strike two. This caused me to dig further. I discovered we have Category:Celebrity Infinity (ship, 2001) and Category:Infinity (ship, 2001), Category:Celebrity Mercury (ship, 1997) and Category:Mercury (ship, 1997), and Category:Celebrity Millennium (ship, 2000) and Category:Millennium (ship, 2000). In the case of each pair, they have the same IMO number, meaning they're the same ship. Yet, we have two separate category trees with separate sets of photos for each ship. And those are just the cases I spot-checked, who knows how many more there are. Strike three.
Bottom line, does PjotrMahh1 possess the competence to accomplish what they're attempting to accomplish and the temperament to work with others? What is the value of many more categories with only one or two files when we've seen discussion in COM:VP to the effect that such categories should be discouraged? What is the value of creating a mess of the hierarchy for what appears to be more a personal project than one which brings value to users at large? - @RadioKAOS: are you certain that this should be at the base noticeboard and not the subpage for problematic users? If you want to move, check out {{Moved discussion to}} and {{Moved discussion from}} I guess Whyiseverythingalreadyused (t · c · he/him) 14:53, 6 July 2026 (UTC)
- Just "Jacksonville" for "Jacksonville, Florida" is a very poor choice. There are places of the same name in Oregon, North Carolina, and Illinois, just off the top of my head. - Jmabel ! talk 18:51, 6 July 2026 (UTC)
ipbe
could ipbe be granted to @MGeog2022? permanently or temporarily up to you? see Commons:Help_desk#c-~2026-37045-87-20260627102400-hCaptcha_system_broken. i think ipbe might help them avoid the captcha. at least give a chance to let them log in and talk about their experience and see what they need.
