My focus within WikiCommons
I focus on cleaning up the taxonomy of carriage types and their hierarchy within WikiCommons, including categories, categorizing files, tagging vehicle types where identification is missing or incorrect, and general cleanup in the area. I follow the Commons Categories universality principle, and use historically attested terminology from published carriage historians. I rely on my collected bibliography of carriages, which form the backbone of historical carriage terminology, with particular emphasis on the following works:
- Berkebile, Donald H. (1978) Carriage Terminology: An Historical Dictionary, Smithsonian Institution Scholarly Press
- Smith, D.J.M. (1988) A Dictionary of Horse Drawn Vehicles, J. A. Allen & Co. Ltd.
- Walrond, Sallie (1979) The Encyclopaedia of Driving, Country Life Books
My Wikipedia background
Since 2023, I have been editing horse-drawn vehicle articles in English Wikipedia, filling out the many stub articles with carriage references and accurate content. My Wikipedia user page is en:User:Grorp.
I have created the following articles:
- Bibliography of carriages and driving
- Glossary of carriage and driving terminology
- History of horse-drawn transport
- List of carriage museums
and have taken stewardship of, and enhanced:
