File:Shishak of Ivan the Terrible.jpg

Photo was taken in 1948. No longer able to be hosted on Commons under PD-Russia. Undelete in 2018. russavia (talk) 07:03, 15 May 2012 (UTC)

It was probably taken before 1948!! It was in Public domain in the USSR, the author (Russian or Swedish?) and date are not specifed in the publication. Similar photos in the UE countries (no author and no date specified) can be published under Anonymous-EU licence. The status of this photo, according to my knowledge, is not regulated by Russian law. The description says the photo is by the State Historical Museum in Moscow and was taken in 1948. Therefore, there is still another 6 years remaining on their copyright of this photo. russavia (talk) 13:26, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
Where it is stated that the picture was taken in 1948? Only the source where it was published is form 1948, I don't know who and when made this photo. It could be taken by a Swedish photographer, as the object is in Swedish possesion, and published in USSR. BurgererSF (talk) 08:22, 18 May 2012 (UTC)

Deleted: No evidence that the photo has been published before 1948. It is the date of first publication that counts. Blacklake (talk) 09:20, 24 July 2012 (UTC)

Looks like this was blindly restored without looking at the history and log. The revision shown, which the file description is about, is still a blatant copyright violation. LX (talk, contribs) 14:49, 1 January 2019 (UTC)

  •  Keep If you read more carefully, you'll see that it was undeleted because it is now PD (1948 plus 70 years = 2018). Hairy Dude (talk) 17:07, 7 January 2019 (UTC)
Hairy Dude: I can read just fine. Let me try to untangle this mess a bit:
    • On 2011‎-05-19, BurgererSF uploaded a file under this name. That's this image with this file description. That version was supposedly created in 1948. (I don't actually see any evidence of this claim anywhere.)
    • That file was nominated for deletion by Russavia on 2012‎-05-15 and deleted by Blacklake on 2012-07-24. That's the discussion above.
    • On 2012‎-08-15, BurgererSF uploaded another file under the same name. That's the current revision and file description. It was deleted by Túrelio on 2012-08-25, after I pointed out that this version is a blatant copyright violation. It was taken from Livrustkammaren's website, which at the time displayed a prominent {{cc-by-nc-sa-2.5}} license (which is non-free), not {{cc-by-sa-2.5}} as claimed by BurgererSF.
All that said, I now see that this image (which appears to be the same photo) is now licensed under {{cc-by-sa-3.0}}. We already have a high-resolution version of that at File:Tsar Ivans hjälm - Livrustkammaren - 81902.tif since 2014, which I guess is when they decided to make it free.
So for the first revision: if it is to be kept, it evidence of when it was created is required, and for the current revision, if a crop like this is needed, it should be created from the full-resolution original and uploaded with a proper description based on that of the original. I stand corrected. Hairy Dude (talk) 02:10, 8 January 2019 (UTC)

Deleted, but first version is kept. I'll try to restore original description. Taivo (talk) 16:44, 4 June 2019 (UTC)
