In most countries, all paintings, sculpture, architecture, text, and other creative works have copyrights which last for 70 years after the death of the creator. An image of a work that is still under copyright is a derivative work, and infringes on the copyright so that we cannot usually keep the image on Commons. In some countries, there is a special exception to the copyright law which allows such images under certain circumstances. We call that exception freedom of panorama (FOP). Unfortunately there is no applicable FOP exception in Ukraine.

  • Keep — while Fekete contributed to the design, per this source (original documents on pages 18, 20 and 21), Kotzebue was at the time recognized by the authorities and remunerated as the sole author.
More in this 1939 source — Kotzebue is listed as the sole designer whose model was accepted by the monument committee (p. 4) and as the only sculptor paid for the work (p. 19).
Therefore, Fekete never held copyright and the work entered the public domain in Romania in 2015.. — Biruitorul (talk) 20:12, 6 January 2026 (UTC)

File:National Football Museum Manchester 5684 (14180312226) (cropped).jpg

This file was extracted from File:National Football Museum Manchester 5684 (14180312226).jpg, to which I've added the Template:De minimis tag. The photos and clippings are de minimis for the original work, but derivatives that focus on the photos themselves, including this one, are copyright violations.[1] There is no evidence to suggest that the pictures are freely licensed, and under COM:PCP, "The precautionary principle is that where there is significant doubt about the freedom of a particular file, it should be deleted."

The Munich air disaster happened on 6 February 1958. Assuming that this work was published in February 1958, "of which the author is unknown and cannot be ascertained by reasonable enquiry", this file would still not meet the public domain requirements at Template:PD-UK-unknown. The photograph must have been made available to the public more than 70 years ago, so assuming this was published in 1958, it would only have been ~67 years since it was published. If the photograph was published after 1958, it would take even longer for the photograph to be in the public domain.

  1. Some parts of this file (the photos) are not fully free but believed to be de minimis for this work. Derivatives of this file which focus more on the non-free element(s) may not qualify as de minimis and may be copyright violations. As a direct consequence, cropped versions of this file may require a review of their copyright status.

The threshold of originality in Argentina is too low and the band logo is likely protected by copyright. Günther Frager (talk) 15:56, 31 December 2025 (UTC)

Keep the concept of this cover is similar to AC/DC's back in black (considering that Australia has a really low TOO). By the way, can You provide solid evidence that the threshold in Argentina is so low as you state? Because commons:Argentina does not cite any court ruling to take as reference, unlike, per instance, commons:Australia. Fma12 (talk) 17:45, 31 December 2025 (UTC)
Argentina is not Australia and the logos are not similar, except for the background color. Also, the album Back in Black was first released first in the US on 25 July 1980 and later in Australia on 11 August, i.e., US legislation applies. If you haven't read the link I provided, I will copy the relevant text: In Argentina, the law does not require a "sufficient quantity" or a high threshold of originality for intellectual works to be protected. The originality can be minimal, but as long as it exists, the creator of the work will receive legal protection. This text part of the guideline and if you don't agree with it you are welcome to discuss it on the the VP and provide the legal references from Argentine court cases that support your argument. Günther Frager (talk) 18:45, 31 December 2025 (UTC)
I don't have any problem with the link and its text. My argument is simplier: this is a simple logo on a plain background, such as loads of Argentine "PD-textlogo" tagged files on commons. This album cover does not have a significative art intervection to be above the TOO. PD: the comparison with back un black was not based on a whim. Both covers similarities are evident. Fma12 (talk) 20:10, 31 December 2025 (UTC)
Sorry, but the text that says "Riff", it is not just text. It has stylized fonts (and it is not any stock font from Word), with two different shapes for the letter "f" so the whole text has a particular shape. Also it uses some light and shadows effect. That is more than "minimal" originality. Günther Frager (talk) 21:11, 31 December 2025 (UTC)

This file was initially tagged by Guliolopez as Copyvio (copyvio) and the most recent rationale was: Uploader claimed "own work" and "self/cc-by-sa-4.0" while stating that this image was captured in 2018. The uploader also stated that the image dates to the 1940s - when it was was (presumably) taken by someone other than the uploader (who was seemingly born 30 years after this image was taken). Both things can't be true at the same time. Uploader has since, effectively, acknowledged their mistake: https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:M.J._Magee&diff=next&oldid=1138099399 -Nard (Hablemonos) (Let's talk) 22:04, 31 December 2025 (UTC)

  •  Keep Ireland switched from 50 year copyright to 70 year copyright in 1995, which means this "early 1940's" image was PD on the URAA date. Note that Ireland did not require "publication" under the former Act, merely that the photograph existed. -Nard (Hablemonos) (Let's talk) 22:56, 1 January 2026 (UTC)
It's okay to delete the image. I couldn't figure out how to or I would have done so myself. Several of these photographs are in my possession and I thought they were longer subject to copyright, but it's probably best to delete them in line with your rules. I'll definitely need to get a better understanding of what to select when adding photographs in the future. With thanks and best wishes M.J. Magee (talk) 17:13, 3 January 2026 (UTC)
