135,000 video files ... but from where is this value ?

In sentence "There are roughly 135,000 video files on Commons..." and taking into account remark Commons:Video#cite_note-1, what are the referenced lines composing the value 135,000 on page Special:Transcode_statistics ? clearly speaking, is this value still actual today and what components must we be aware of, when trying to realign it ? @Prototyperspective: Ogg Theora is not widely supported among modern browsers; when I open .ogv videos in Chrome 149, they basically just look like audio files. Qzekrom (talk) 08:40, 28 June 2026 (UTC)

Sub-second thumbtimes not working?

The documentation says that only tenths (0.1, 0.2, etc.) of seconds work, currently. But do they? The embedded example in the documentation which is trying to capture a lightning strike shows only darkness, and this test shows that fractions of seconds are just rendering the default midpoint thumbnail:

"VP9 or WebM"?

The intro sections of this page are pretty good about how they discuss codecs vs. containers. But then the Transcode section comes along and starts repeatedly saying things like "VP9 or WebM":

Transcode

A transcode is a VP9 or WebM file with a smaller resolution, smaller file size, or lower bit rate than the original video, created to optimally serve one of our videos to web browsers by mw:Extension:TimedMediaHandler. After each video is uploaded, that extension creates a "Transcode status" section on the video's file description page, which contains a link to "Update transcode status" (which will purge the page) and then a table which details the following statistics for each transcode: "Format" (sorted by video format (VP9 then WebM) and then by decreasing video resolution); "Bitrate" (in kbps or Mbps); "Download" (a link to download that particular transcode); "Actions" (a link to "Reset transcode" for that particular transcode, in case the transcoding failed); "Status" (what happened last to that transcode and when (UTC)); and "Encode time" (how long it took a backend server to finish the transcoding process, in seconds or minutes and seconds).

...As if those are separate things, and the VP9 encodings aren't also in WebM containers. Does it mean "VP9 or VP8" / "VP9 then VP8"? And does the "Transcode status" feature really make the same mistake, confusing the issue by using both WebM and VP9 to refer to a video's "Format" when they're two separate things entirely?
