Categorize photos from Polish Wiki Loves Monuments by administrative unit

Hello! In Polish WLM there are special prizes for photos from certain administrative units. Therefore, we categorize the photos by voivodeship (i.e. top-level administrative unit). I have prepared a list of files to be added to respective categories at User:Msz2001/WLM2025_categories.

The page has 16 sections, files in each section should be added to the category in the section header. Thanks in advance, Msz2001 (talk) 18:41, 1 October 2025 (UTC)

@Msz2001: Can you give an example of exactly what category you'd want added to a specific file?
Also, that page is pretty big and is hard to load. -- Auntof6 (talk) 19:38, 1 October 2025 (UTC)
@Auntof6 For example, add File:2023-05-13_090837_00535_Wrocław,_archikatedra_św._Jana_Chrzciciela_we_Wrocławiu.jpg to category Category:Images from Wiki Loves Monuments in Poland – dolnośląskie voivodeship (which is specified in the section header).
If the page takes much time to load, it might be easier to take the data from the edit view. It loads quickly, especially with syntax highlighting turned off. The structure of the source code of this page is very predictable (either file link preceded by # or category link in header). Msz2001 (talk) 19:54, 1 October 2025 (UTC)
@Msz2001: Thanks, I understand better now. If I think of something that could help, I'll comment here again. -- Auntof6 (talk) 20:00, 1 October 2025 (UTC)
User:Cryptic-waveform did something similar before: see Commons:Bots/Work requests/Archive 17#Mass categorization of Wiki Loves Monuments Poland photos. Wikiwerner (talk) 14:57, 25 December 2025 (UTC)
I have started work on this. The first step was to expand {{Wiki Loves Monuments 2025}} to allow specifying the voivodeship (Revision #1144865823). Note that I'm using the English names of the voivodeships per COM:LANG. I have started to move images from Wiki Loves Monuments 2025 in Kraków by modifying the template. Images that don't have a voivodeship are now added to Images from Wiki Loves Monuments 2025 in Poland missing voivodeship categorization. This follows the pattern used for US images. Cryptic-waveform (talk) 15:25, 9 January 2026 (UTC)
Please don't mess with 10+ year old templates like {{Wiki Loves Monuments 2012}}. These templates are per country. If you want to add more categorization, that's fine, just don't edit these templates. Multichill (talk) 20:18, 11 January 2026 (UTC)
@Multichill Hi. Sorry about that. I think given there are US states in the template it was an honest mistake on the @Cryptic-waveform side. I'll try to prepare our template for the next event and include it in the campaign. If you have suggestions on naming conventions (for tpl and cats) please let me known (here or on my talk page). Nux (talk··dyskusja) 21:38, 11 March 2026 (UTC)
Any updates on this? Wikiwerner (talk) 14:03, 4 July 2026 (UTC)

Categorization of Category:Photographs by Anil Öztas/Lens focal length

For each category in Category:Photographs by Anil Öztas/Lens focal length, add appropriate lens focal length category. Example: Category:Photographs by Anil Öztas/Lens focal length 84 mm would have [[Category:Lens focal length 84 mm|Anil Öztas]] added. Thanks. OmegaFallon (talk) 06:28, 5 December 2025 (UTC)

@A. Öztas: Have you seen this? Maybe this request could be handled by Bienchen? Just asking, best, – Aristeas (talk) 17:26, 2 March 2026 (UTC)
Or should it be |Öztas, Anil ? Wikiwerner (talk) 10:42, 2 May 2026 (UTC)
We absolutely do not need separate categories for every single lens focal length a photographer has used. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 21:31, 2 May 2026 (UTC)
We have got them: see Category:Photographs by lens focal length. So use them, or nominate them for deletion. Wikiwerner (talk) 19:49, 3 June 2026 (UTC)
Categorizing all photographs by lens local length is plausibly useful. Having a category tree to sort the photos of a single user in that manner is absolutely not useful. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 20:15, 3 June 2026 (UTC)

Hi everyone.

The bot FeaturedMediaBot operated by Eatcha (blocked) that used to handle parking and closing nominations in the Featured Media Candidates project, is inactive for years. Closing these nominations manually is extremely tedious. I'm also notifying W.carter, who is more familiar with these procedures

I would like to request a new bot (or someone to adopt the old script) to automate the FMC closure and archiving process. Here is the exact logical workflow the bot needs to execute based on our manual procedures:

Trigger:

The bot should run on a schedule to check Commons:Featured media candidates/candidate list for nominations that have reached the end of their voting period and have a clear consensus, or process them when a reviewer adds a specific closing tag.

Step 1: Update the nomination page

  • Add the result of the voting at the bottom of the nomination page using this syntax: {{FMC-results-reviewed|support=x|oppose=x|neutral=x|featured=("yes" or "no")|gallery=xxx|sig=~~~~}} (gallery left blank if featured=no).
  • Modify the title header of the candidate media template by appending , featured or , not featured. (Example: === [[:File:example.ext]] === becomes === [[:File:example.ext]], featured ===)

Step 2: If the media is promoted (Featured = Yes)

  • Main page update: Add the media to the list of the four most recently featured media at Commons:Featured media. Insert it at the top and delete the oldest (4th) one so the count remains exactly four.
  • Gallery update: Add the media to the top of the corresponding Featured media gallery section.
  • File page update: Add {{FM_promoted|featured=1}} to the media's file description page. (If an alternative media was promoted, use |com-nom=OriginalName.ext).
  • User notifications:
    • Add == FM promotion == {{subst:FMpromotion|File:example.ext}} to the Nominator's talk page.
    • Add {{subst:FMpromotedUploader|File:example.ext}} to the Uploader's talk page. (If nominator = uploader, just use the Uploader template).

Step 3: Archiving (for all closures: Promoted, not Promoted, Withdrawn, FMX, FMD)

Handling Withdrawn Nominations:

  • Ensure the bot marks withdrawn nominations with |featured=no in the results template and appends , not featured to the header, so they don't get stuck in the [[:Category:Featured media candidates awaiting closure review]] category, then archive them as described in Step 3.

Since the project is active with the new videos, having an automated bot to handle this heavy lifting is helpful. RiadS99 (talk) 22:10, 26 March 2026 (UTC)

Hi @حبيشان, could you create a bot to handle this task? RiadS99 (talk) 20:29, 19 April 2026 (UTC)
@RiadS99 sorry I can't now. 🇵🇸 حبيشانDiscussion 15:48, 10 May 2026 (UTC)

Missing maps by day shown

Special:WantedCategories has a few hundred redlinked missing categories like Category:Maps showing Jan 30, 2022 which are incorrectly named. Each one has subcategories like Category:Jan 30, 2022 maps of North America that should be created first to reduce the movement. Could a bot do the following?

1. Make this type of edit that removes each category and revises the template to hardcode the template with the correct formatting.

2. Create each continent category with template:Maps by continent by day.

3. Go back to the parent and a category redirect to, for example here, Category:Maps showing 2022-01-30 here for each one. Alternatively, revise the template:Map showing old data in each page to the correct format and avoid the non-empty redirects work.

4. Insert template:Maps by day at the correct page.

Thanks! Ricky81682 (talk) 08:08, 24 April 2026 (UTC)

Unsupported parameters in Template:Information

There is a bunch of files with unsupported parameters in {{Information}}:

Is anybody able to convert them, e.g. by using Other fields, so make the information visible and to get rid of the error messages? --Leyo 19:41, 2 May 2026 (UTC)

Just as information: When I made an import from German Wikipedia and Anmerkungen contained some useful information. let’s simply use here Text, I made this conversion by hand:
Parameter with value in dewiki is |Anmerkungen=Text (note that there are often [or always?] actually spaces in betweeen), I’ve changed it to |Other_fields={{Information field |name={{notes}} |value={{de|Text}}}}. But in most cases the parameter is empty and should then be removed. — Speravir – 23:10, 10 May 2026 (UTC)
Thank you. Sounds like a good solution for the 2nd and the 3rd case; except where a template is involved, {{de|Text}} may not be appropriate. --Leyo 07:40, 13 May 2026 (UTC)
Category:Pages using Information template with incorrect parameter now only contains files with these three unsupported parameters. --Leyo 20:20, 29 May 2026 (UTC)

A few more newspapers to categorize by date

Hi, I'd like to list more newspapers where it should be easy for an automatism to assign categories of the specific date, similar to the request for the #Boston Evening Transcript. I have checked that each of the following newspapers are using ISO-8601 in the file name, which is exactly the target format for the category (1901-01-01).

All the best, --Enyavar (talk) 12:22, 14 May 2026 (UTC)

I will take care of this. --Ameisenigel (talk) 13:20, 16 May 2026 (UTC)

No, I can easily adapt my script for the other entries. Currently my bot is running the #Boston Evening Transcript task, so I will wait for that bot run to be finished until taking care of the next of these requests. --Ameisenigel (talk) 03:04, 29 May 2026 (UTC)

Higher resolution versions

All the images in Category:Watercolor paintings in the Yale Center for British Art were uploaded a few years ago, with fairly low resolutions. It appears that Yale have now added much higher resolution versions, which could be added here. I've done 7 (see my 14 May uploads), but there's another 3,390 to check whether there's new large versions available. Can a bot be set to update them all? - MPF (talk) 16:58, 14 May 2026 (UTC)

Remove bold markup in about 14.000 file descriptions

In about 14.00 files containing {{BArch-image}} template the short title has got bold wiki markup, despite there is actually an inline style for the bold font-weight added in the template code, confer edit request at Template talk:BArch-image (pinging @Draceane) and this search query: file: hastemplate:"BArch-image" insource:/\| *short title *= *'{3}[^']+'{3}/.

Meta, @Krd: I have actually a bot account (User:SperaviriBot), just without bot rights here. Could it be worth requesting on the dedicated page for the bot flag in Commons? My request would look like the one in dewiki (archived request), meaning I would only use existing scripts of pywikibot, mainly replace.py, and use the bot account only occasionally. My work request would be a perfect example for what I am able to perform. — Speravir – 00:26, 27 May 2026 (UTC)

Sometimes users request undeletion for [[File:Example.jpg]] instead of [[:File:Example.jpg]]. When the file gets undeleted it suddenly gets transcluded on COM:UDR in its original size.
Request: replace /\[\[[Ff]ile:([^\]|]{2,256})\]\]/ with [[:File:$1]] when COM:UDR gets edited. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 03:41, 28 May 2026 (UTC)

Should probably only be applied only to files in the headline, not generally. Schlurcher (talk) 13:49, 28 May 2026 (UTC)
Schlurcher, see also Help talk:Gadget-Restore-a-lot by User:Jameslwoodward. It seems generally safe to me to apply this to all unnamed (no pipe character) links. When there is a pipe character it might be a smiley or thumbnail. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 14:37, 28 May 2026 (UTC)

Subcategories under Category:Abilene_Daily_Reporter_by_volume

The individual volume subcategories like Category:Abilene_Daily_Reporter_(Abilene,_Tex.),_Vol._9 have too many images and need more subcategories under them for each no. of the volume like Category:Abilene_Daily_Reporter_(Abilene,_Tex.),_Vol._8 has. Is there a bot that can create all the needed subcategories? And then I can use cat-a-lot to check and move all the images into the correct subcategories. Thanks. Add Commons quality assessment to SDC

Hi, could someone please have a bot assign the correct Commons quality assessment SDC for Featured and Quality images? Most images already have it, and FPC bot is supposed to set it, but some more recent FPs are missing it. This is important because the quality assessment filter on Media Viewer relies on it. Thanks LetmeEditit (talk) 11:33, 20 June 2026 (UTC)

Can you specify which statements should be added and based on which template? --Ameisenigel (talk) 14:52, 21 June 2026 (UTC)
Something like: if {{assessments|featured=1}}, add SDC P6731=Q63348049. Also the same thing for QI assessments. An example of an image to be corrected is File:004 Great horned owl under a Pink Ipê tree in Encontro das Águas State Park Photo by Giles Laurent.jpg, it has Commons quality assessment SDC of QI, but not FP. LetmeEditit (talk) 16:54, 22 June 2026 (UTC)

Zaporizhzhia

Many categories related to en:Zaporizhzhia (category:Zaporizhzhia) are named with another transcription of the city name: Zaporizhia (e.g. category:Streets in Zaporizhia). It would be nice to rename all of them. Sneeuwschaap (talk) 05:37, 8 July 2026 (UTC)

Add template

Hi, at Category:Maryland by year by county and Category:Florida by year by county there more than 300 categories year-by-county categories, which deserve a template for easier and standardized navigation. Thus I'am asking for add {{US county by year}} to all year-by-county categories at

My suggestion is replacing all present text at those categories with {{US county by year}}. Thank you in advance! --Kleeblatt187 (talk) 18:09, 28 July 2026 (UTC)

N.B. At this time please don't change categories at Category:Prince George's County, Maryland by year. Due to the apostrophe the template doesn't work properly yet, this needs to be fixed first. --Kleeblatt187 (talk) 18:09, 28 July 2026 (UTC)
