Maps uploaded by User:Wikideas1

These maps and graphs are illegible. They use gray text on a darker gray background, and there is insufficient contrast to make out the details, making them useless for our projects. --Imzadi 1979  00:37, 8 January 2026 (UTC)

  •  Speedy keep per COM:INUSE. They're perfectly legibile to me, maybe overly stylised but still useful.–DMartin (talk) 04:15, 8 January 2026 (UTC)
I can redo the state colleges ones, and some others and isolate the state and make it more contrasty. The thumbnail does look a little dark, but when you click all the way into it, it is pretty visible. Give me a little time to fix them please. Wikideas1 (talk) 06:51, 8 January 2026 (UTC)
Be sure to test toggling Wikipedia's "Light Mode" / "Dark Mode" option when testing how they display. But yeah, I think that allowing time for them to be fixed is a better solution than deleting them. Cooljeanius (talk) 12:06, 8 January 2026 (UTC)
Keep They are in use and are high-resolution. The text itself is legible, but the colors need to be changed for contrast. They are definitely useful though and shouldn't be deleted. HurricaneZeta (talk) 17:29, 8 January 2026 (UTC)
@HurricaneZeta: based on w:Talk:Lists of American universities and colleges, a good portion of these maps (the college ones) would not be in use, or will not be in use, before long because of the quality issues with them. Basically, they're only in use at the moment because of the work needed to remove all of them from all of the articles. The text is illegible on all of the college maps, and in most of them, the level of contrast between the shades of dark gray in use also make them so hard to read as to be useless. Imzadi 1979  05:15, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
Keep Only the thumbnails are lacking contrast. Clicking open, they look fine. IT looks like a lot of hard work went into them. --RAN (talk) 19:32, 8 January 2026 (UTC)
  • Delete unless they are changed dramatically before including in articles. The text is tiny, nowhere near the guideline that text should be comparable to surrounding text in Wikipedia articles. Most Wikipedia views are on handheld devices, for which these maps are torture. Some maps are "in use"... but because it's too much work to remove them all. RCraig09 (talk) 18:09, 9 January 2026 (UTC)
Delete where not in use. Per nom and commenters, these maps are all exceptionally hard to read at any size lower than full screen; they are also effectively impossible for other users to update. I would encourage @Wikideas1 to familiarize themselves with mw:Wikimedia Maps and GeoJSON to author these maps in a more modifiable, reusable form. Omphalographer (talk) 23:33, 11 January 2026 (UTC)
Did you want to pick some hex colors? And I can maybe upload them as svg so they can be downloaded and edited by others.

Keep, but reupload them all with improved contrast. Dark mode is not Wikipedia standard, but SVG maps especially can be produced with both dark and light mode in mind. Dark mode should be able to invert colors from SVGs. Edit/P.S.: redoing the state maps from darkest night black to very dark grey has not been much of an improvement. --Enyavar (talk) 15:27, 15 January 2026 (UTC)
Comment the deletion rationale does not apply to File:Bus routes and bus stops around the United States.png but can that file be accurate – there's probably way more bus routes than these, especially within cities. Maybe the title needs to be changed or sth else. Prototyperspective (talk) 10:14, 26 January 2026 (UTC)
Actually, this looks fairly accurate for the overland bus system, compare this interactive map. North Dakota has only 8 bus stations. --Enyavar (talk) 08:11, 27 January 2026 (UTC)

File:Aegukka - National Anthem of North Korea.wav

This file was initially tagged by Remsense as Speedy (SD) and the most recent rationale was: File 5: Missing essential information Yann (talk) 06:09, 31 March 2025 (UTC)

Hello, I am the uploader of this file. I understand it was nominated for deletion due to "Missing essential information." I have now updated the file page with the following details to address those concerns:
  • Creation:
The recording was created by the North Korean state broadcaster (KCTV) in the early 2000s. *
  • First Broadcast:
The recording was first broadcast by KCTV in December 2011.
  • Regular Broadcast:
This specific recording is broadcast daily by KCTV as part of their regular programming, indicating wide public dissemination. The licensing section on the file page now includes a {{PD-because}} tag with the following explanation:
This file is in the public domain because it was created by the North Korean state broadcaster (KCTV) in the early 2000s, first broadcasted in December 2011, and is broadcasted daily. As a straightforward rendition of an underlying musical work likely in the public domain in the US (due to the URAA date and publication before 1989 without notice), this recording lacks sufficient originality for US copyright.
Based on this information, I believe the file now contains the essential details regarding its origin and provides a clear argument for its public domain status in the United States. I respectfully request that the deletion nomination be reconsidered. I am happy to answer any further questions. Thank you for your time and consideration. Italianmolisemapper (talk) 14:46, 31 March 2025 (UTC)
Keep Why would you try to delete a national anthem? Also, isn’t the anthem a bit old since its first revision? OMGShay 92 (talk) 17:12, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
In some countries, like Botswana, the national anthem is still copyrighted and thus unable to be uploaded to Commons. In this case, I don't know if we could keep this recording (see COM:North Korea). TansoShoshen (talk) 08:31, 5 May 2025 (UTC)
Keep The missing essential information has been added, thus the rationale is no longer valid. And as for TansoShoshen and COM:North Korea: I see the anthem covered by "Documents for state management [...] shall not be the object of copyright unless commercial purpose is pursued. [1532/2006 Article 12]". I'm sure that now all essential details regarding its origin and a clear argument for its public domain status in the United States are stated. Might some admin maybe close this case? ThomasPusch (talk) 07:25, 14 May 2025 (UTC)
I believe this file should be deleted. Similar to , the composer of the music Mr.Kim Won-gyun died in 2002; therefore it should be in copyright until 2053. It is not in Public Domain when Uruguay Round Agreements Act was signed, nor is this anthem composed before 1930. There are no point to argue about the recording, as the original is copyrighted, the anthem can only be used as a Fair Use format. Meanwhile, I don't think there are signs to show that anthem is "Documents for state management", but if it is, then sure to keep it. FK8438 (talk) 02:09, 22 May 2025 (UTC)
Keep Article 32 of the North Korean copyright law, sourced from Wikisource and WIPO Lex says: "A copyrighted work may be used without the permission of the copyright owner...when a copyrighted work needed for state management is copied, broadcast or used in compilation".
This means that copyrighted works may be used without permission if they are needed for the administration of the North Korean government. COM:NOP North Korea states that documents for state management, current news or information data are not protected unless if they are of a commercial nature (see Commons:Deletion requests/Template:PD-KPGov). Furthermore, North Korea adopted a new law on the national anthem in 2024, so that means that Aegukka is free because it is needed to make the law on the national anthem.
Furthermore on the recording, the recording was made by KCTV, which is operated by the w:Korean Central Broadcasting Committee, and is owned by the Propaganda and Agitation Department, which is part of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea as an organ between national meetings of the WPK (the ruling party of the North Korean government). Even though North Korean currency was deleted due to being government works of a commercial nature, the provision in Article 32 states that works needed for state management may be copied, broadcasted or used. Inconclusive I strikethroughed my original response because this is highly open to interpretation.

Delete per Clindberg's URAA comment here. Assuming it is not protected in North Korea, its US copyright got restored through COM:URAA. File may be free in NoKor but unfree in the US. More complicated if it is an audio recording under US law. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contributions) 02:36, 3 June 2025 (UTC)
Comment: I found a supposed broadcast of Aegukka from 1974. If true, I think it's probably same to assume that this recording of Aegukka was probably around since KCTV's first operational broadcast in 1963. If we were to delete now, this would push the undeletion date a little closer to now, being that the performance is already in PD, just not the composition. TansoShoshen (talk) 17:23, 3 June 2025 (UTC)
Found the unedited video from the one I provided earlier. TansoShoshen (talk) 17:44, 3 June 2025 (UTC)
Unfortunately, the 1974 broadcast is most likely fake, since it uses the Korean Film logo (the original video got privated due to multiple complaints from users about its genuity). However, there is still KCTV footage from 1986 found at https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lp-rexW7of4, originally taken from a French documentary. So change the undeletion date to 2082 from 2090, since the performance still has a separate copyright from the music. VTSGsRock (talk) 18:54, 3 June 2025 (UTC)
As the uploader, I now agree with the arguments for deletion. Due to the URAA treaty, I believe this file does not meet Wikimedia Commons' free content requirements. I respectfully request that an administrator close this discussion with a deletion. Italianmolisemapper (talk) 21:25, 15 June 2025 (UTC)

Delete Even though the anthem may be free since it qualifies as a work required for administration (lawmaking), the same wouldn't be for the recording, since the government can produce many recordings of the anthem. VTSGsRock (talk) 18:50, 4 June 2025 (UTC)

The thing is, as we have found out while trying to establish how old the recording of the anthem is, is that they haven't. This is the same recording that KCTV has used for decades. TansoShoshen (talk) 14:06, 5 June 2025 (UTC)

Kept: {{PD-North Korea}} applies. Ruthven (msg) 05:03, 8 July 2025 (UTC)

File:Aegukka - National Anthem of North Korea.wav

Renominating for deletion following further discussion on the copyright status of Aegukka Commons:Village pump/Copyright/Archive/2025/08#h-Copyright status of Aegukka-20250811014600, I did also ask the admin who kept this file as to why this file was kept after a seeming unambiguous consensus for deleting this file, and I got no response justifying how the license applies. TansoShoshen (talk) 01:21, 8 January 2026 (UTC)

Delete As stated here, "It clearly states that a work is copyrighted; it just makes a form of fair use that the government can use it if they deem it necessary." It's a fair use clause for the North Korean government. They can pick up and use whatever they want, but we cannot.--Namoroka (talk) 04:32, 5 March 2026 (UTC)
Delete: Agree with the above statement. The last mutual composer died in 2002, and this should be in PD no earlier than 2053. Since the file was not in PD when the URAA was signed and the US did not take a file that was not in PD in its originated nation as PD, this is literally copyrighted. Its trivial that this discussion should not be closed by {{PD-North_korea}} and should be deleted (and replace by a copyrighted sample) instead. By the way, I believe taking Chongryon‘s recording or the Kim Jong il's funeral's performance would be better for the sample considering their audio quality once this file was deleted.

File:Jim Harbaugh yearbook portrait.jpg

Clearly not own work. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 04:36, 8 January 2026 (UTC)

Keep From my experience, virtually no middle or high school yearbooks had a copyright notice around this time, so this almost certainly falls under {{PD-US-no notice}}. Based5290 (talk) 07:16, 8 January 2026 (UTC)
Delete COM:PRP unless the yearbook itself can be found. Just because most yearbooks didn't have a copyright notice doesn't mean we can assume this one is too - we have to see the yearbook to confirm it has no notice. HurricaneZeta (talk) 19:00, 8 January 2026 (UTC)
I'd say this is roughly similar to {{Publicity photo}}; I do not recall ever finding a middle or high school yearbook which ever had a copyright notice, so either I'm comically lucky (or unlucky) or it was extremely rare for middle or high school yearbooks to have copyright notices. While this does leave some doubt as to copyright status, I would not say it is significant doubt. Based5290 (talk) 20:11, 8 January 2026 (UTC)

File:Logo Pertamina Hulu Energi.png

This file should be deleted because it is not the correct logo of the organization. The logo shown is factually incorrect, not merely outdated, and does not match the official branding. As a result, users may download and use the wrong logo. The correct official logo has already been uploaded and is available at []. Deletion of this file is requested to avoid confusion and ensure accuracy. Thank you. Hazelella (talk) 04:44, 8 January 2026 (UTC)

Keep Sorry, but I don't see much changes in the logo other than the colors' saturations. Old logos aren't deleted just by virtue of them being old, and in this case I don't see too much of an issue with the colors just being a bit lighter. HurricaneZeta (talk) 19:03, 8 January 2026 (UTC)
The logo differs in structural aspects, including the proportions and spacing of the symbol relative to the “Hulu Energi” wordmark, as well as the typographic alignment.Specifically, the spacing between the “Pertamina” logotype and the “Hulu Energi” wordmark is incorrect.
In the logo requested to be deleted https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Logo_Pertamina_Hulu_Energi.png, the letter “i” in “Hulu Energi” is vertically aligned with the letter “a” in the “Pertamina” logotype.
While the official logo https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Logo_PHE_Update.png applies a defined clear space between the two elements.
This structural difference results in an inaccurate logo rendition. Because logos function as precise brand identifiers, even proportional inconsistencies can lead to misuse and misrepresentation when downloaded for external use.

Picking off files from Commons:Deletion requests/Files found with "https://nationalanthems.info/" 1 by 1. This particular file was performed by Keith Terrett, who is selling this recording on his website. The website listed as the source of this file does appear to have a CC license, however it appears to be a footer and there's no proof that the performer actually granted permission for this file to be licensed that way. One other file uploaded by the same user is File:Escalona cuadro.jpg, which apparently has permission sent to the Volunteer Response Team, still under review. I'm curious to see how that turns out because the provided date of the uploaded photo (2006) is older than any version I could find online. There is a news article from Semana here with a photo that was almost certainly taken by the same person at the same time, and is credited to León Darío Peláez.
File:LUZ MARIA ZAMBRANO DE ESCALONA - RAFAEL ESCALONA.jpg is, I would guess, in the possession of the Fundacion Rafael Escalona (they posted it in this instagram post). What is curious it that the uploaded version here appears to be a photo taken of that photo, rather than a scan... so if the user/foundation does have the rights to the photo (and has demonstrated that to the VRT), it should be replaced with the higher quality scan. File:RAFAEL ESCALONA Y SU HIJA PAOLA ESCALONA.jpg is the same story (the instagram post is here).

I'm unable to find the name of the sculptor even though it appears to be a mass produced sculpture: the same sculpture can be found in the city of Anapa and Volgograd, and a very similar looking one in Saint Petersburg. The latter is the only one for which I can find author information: the sculptor was Манизер Матвей Генрихович (1891-1966). Nakonana (talk) 22:05, 14 March 2026 (UTC)

Erroneous CoA (due to the wrong color of the bend), not usable for the purpose, which the user eventually corrected by uploading a new file 2 months later instead of overwiting the existing one, which is stated in the description since then.
Kontributor 2K (talk) 17:12, 8 January 2026 (UTC)

Retain. The arms are correct per source given in original upload, apologies for the confusion from my post-upload edit which deleted that description and erroneously termed it "erroneous". Explanatory description now added: "Arms of Amory of Whitechapel, Bishops Nympton, Devon: Barry nebulée of six argent and gules, over all a bend sable. (Source: Meredith, Gertrude Euphemia, The Descendants of Hugh Amory 1605-1805, London, 1901 , quoting from Heraldic Visitation of Devon, 1620. Meredith, p.268 “ ... his D'Amory arms are those of a family settled equally early in Gloucestershire. Both these families — the Gloucester one in 1592, the Devonshire one in 1620 — had had their right to bear arms recognized by the heralds. The arms were in both cases barry nebulee of six, argent and gules, over all, a bend — but in Devonshire it was a bend sable, in Gloucestershire a bend azure” ". As is common in heraldry different sources sometimes give different arms, especially for more obscure families. Sometimes there is no right and wrong, both versions need to be given and the viewer can form his own opinion. Thanks for noticing the discrepancy! Massachusetts license plates uploaded by User:Whaldude

All of these images appear to be taken from https://www.mass.gov/doc/passenger-plates-manual-0/download or similar sources and are not "own work" of User:Whaldude as claimed. Massachusetts license plates are not issued by the federal government, and therefore the artwork is not in the public domain. I've only nominated the examples that clearly exceed the COM:TOO, but there are others that are more borderline. --Ahecht (TALK

Per a suggestion at the help desk, I'll clarify that these do not fall under Template:PD-MAGov since, not only are license plates not a public record held by the Massachusetts archives, the public domain provision in Massachusetts law excludes Works that are considered "public records" but were not created by a state or municipal government agency may be copyrighted by their author. Per https://www.mass.gov/doc/special-plates-brochure/download the artwork on these plates is submitted by the organization the plate is supporting, and is not created by a "state or municipal government agency". 1947 photograph from Time/Life magazines collections, so it's country of origin is in fact the US. Time/Life has been diligent about renewing copyrights, so it must be assumed that it will be protected by copyright until 1 January 2043, after 95 years since its original publication in the U.S. Also, the photographer died in 1995, so it may be also be in copyright in other countries until at least 2066. As the country of origin is the U.S., the 95 years after publicatiom term is the relevant determination method for future undeletion in 2043. ~2026-16491-6 (talk) 17:31, 8 January 2026 (UTC)

Copy/pasting from my discussion at the Pump: "This file, which was uploaded 15 years ago, appears to be a scan from a magazine or some other print publication (edges on top edge, bottom right corner). It also appears to be laid out like an official ad, which if true means it's probably not good for Commons. I've done some digging and I haven't found this exact image, but I suspect it may be from a 1996 issue of Packaging World magazine - an article dated July 1996 on their website appears to have an extremely bitcrushed, cropped version of the same image. I have been unable to find any archives of the magazine going back to the 90s, however. Another one of the uploader's files was apparently deleted for missing permission information, so it's possible this one may be mistakenly attributed." Jan-Janko (talk) 21:18, 8 January 2026 (UTC)
