I'd like to update the SVG with the recent map changes since 2024. The line that runs to Fuentemilanos and Madrona has regained the name and characteristics of "M10" , and the M2 line has been extended from Valseca to Encinillas . I have already created with the modified file.

I'd like to upload a higher-resolution version, licensed under CC BY (version unspecified), archived on MorphoBank. Rationale: this individual fly and the images of it serve as the holotype for the Marleyimyia xylocopae species (species:Marleyimyia xylocopae, en:Marleyimyia xylocopae), and I feel that it is important that the version here across Wikimedia (Wikispecies, Wikidata, Commons, and Wikipedia) is as high-quality as possible to allow users to examine the image for potential diagnostic features. --WrenFalcon (talk) 04:34, 27 March 2025 (UTC)

A user created SVG images based on my PNG images, which are just vectorized versions of them, and uploaded them under the same names. I want to upload the original SVGs to overwrite the versions he uploaded and be able to overwrite them in the future if needed, without submitting a new request each time. The versions he uploaded have many mistakes because they are not properly vectorized.

I'm not an expert on the Netherlands and I'd need sources to support that Montferland is not a part of the Achterhoek region. @Ellywa: @1Veertje: to check on whether Montferland being included is factually wrong. Abzeronow (talk) 18:31, 25 March 2025 (UTC)
@Ciell is from the Achterhoek Vera(talk) 18:56, 25 March 2025 (UTC)
Montferland is Liemers according to the Dutch Wikipedia, and I support that, but historically regions are often disputed, and in the case of Liemers they actually also have collaborations in initiatives by the Achterhoek. Locally though, we say that the Achterhoek ends at en:Doetinchem. Everything more to the west is Liemers. Ciell (talk) 19:07, 25 March 2025 (UTC)
Dutch municipalities have merged a lot over the passed decades. These old names come from the kerspels (like en:parishes) from the mid-ages. If you can recreate a map like this dynamic one, which has an overlay for the regions over the municipalities, that would be the most correct situation, I think. Ciell (talk) 19:15, 25 March 2025 (UTC)
Thanks Ciell and Ellywa. It looks like we'd want to include Montferland in both Achterhoek and Liemers, and perhaps I should edit enwiki to note that Montferland is locally considered part of Liemers but included on tourism sites as part of Achterhoek. Abzeronow (talk) 19:37, 25 March 2025 (UTC)
I think that would be best, yes. This setting shows it even better. Al lot of municipalities are in more that one region - it is more a social-cultural feeling (as Ellywa explains below), combined with dialects and traditions (and religion. And antipathy.). Ciell (talk) 19:45, 25 March 2025 (UTC)
Even in het Nederlands.
The original map contains an excess of land from Móng Cái in Vietnam, lacks the strip of land in Quảng Yên, and part of northern Hưng Hóa. I would like to overwrite this file to remove the flickering by deleting one of the two gif frames. The current total frame delay is 200ms leading to a flash rate of 5 times per second, which violates several web design guidelines for epilepsy safety, e.g. https://www.section508.gov/develop/guide-accessible-web-design-development/#flashing. (This would improve representation of the actual object being depicted, since the real pulsar has a pulse frequency of 160 Hz that would not be visible.) NoFlickering (talk) 08:53, 6 April 2025 (UTC)
Done Please make sure to note what you did when you overwrite (and yes, your proposed change would be more safe. I have a family history of epilepsy, thankfully I am not photosensitive). Abzeronow (talk) 20:13, 6 April 2025 (UTC)
To clarify, the view is across the Nile from the east, showing Menkaure, Khafre, G1-c, Khufu. They should be left-to-right in this order. The shape of Khafre's "icing" shows it is the east side. The author's name is reversed. The handwritten label and number were stuck on the back by mistake. Frunsorl (talk) 19:34, 5 April 2025 (UTC)
Same issue as discussed below. This should remain as uploaded since it represents an object held by a museum, but a derivative image showing the correct orientation of the view should be made (without the frame and the museum annotations.) Abzeronow (talk) 22:33, 5 April 2025 (UTC)
Flipped; the original source is mirrored. Frunsorl (talk) 23:07, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
To clarify, the Sphinx, which faces east, had a forehead gash on the north side, but we don't see it here. The gouge seen near the bottom of Khufu's pyramid is on the south (not to be confused with the north-face entrances). When you are face-to-face with the Sphinx, Khufu should be on the right. The handwritten label and number were stuck on the back by mistake. Frunsorl (talk) 19:33, 5 April 2025 (UTC)
@Jmabel: The problem is that this is a historic photograph. If the photograph itself is mirrored, it probably should remain that way. I don't have any objection to a derivative file correcting this though. Abzeronow (talk) 19:37, 5 April 2025 (UTC)
I think that is exactly right. This is an accurate representation of what is in the museum collection, but we should have a derivative version showing the actual real-world orientation of the scene (possibly without the framing and museum annotation). - Jmabel! talk 21:25, 5 April 2025 (UTC)

Higher quality photos. TheOffShoot (talk) 05:54, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
Done on Blunt Rochester, Leahy, McDowell and Shambaugh. @Jmabel: for their thoughts on Beattie and Anton, the sources have a desaturated photo and the new proposed version is more colorful and looks better but could violate overwriting rules by being noticably different visually. The new proposed Kerry photo is darker than the current version and so I'm not sure on that either. Abzeronow (talk) 18:58, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
At least some of these seem to be two different versions of the same photo, not an either/or. We should host both. For example, on the Leahy photo, the Web Archive version is higher resolution -- quite likely it's the original -- but I suspect the slight smoothing to make pores less obvious was a deliberate choice, not an accident. Similarly, for Kerry, the lightening looks deliberate.
I personally think that in each case we should make both versions available. The one that is closer to the original is certainly where I'd want to start if I did my own retouch, but that does not make it the better version, and especially if the retouched version came from an official source (such as the person's own web site) it is appropriate to keep that available. - Jmabel! talk 19:24, 7 April 2025 (UTC)

The first of each is the backside of the foldout (which is already covered by the page after the foldout) and the second is an empty page, which, based on the raw scan images, doesn't exist here at all. I've thus removed these and would like to upload the fixed document. DarkShadowTNT (talk) 00:34, 12 April 2025 (UTC)

The source for the first file shows a street sign that roughly matches the current file, while the historical usage does suggest gold is correct rather than silver @Kontributor 2K: thoughts?
Second is done though. Abzeronow (talk) 00:38, 12 April 2025 (UTC)
In the description of the first file, the author tells the color of the panel has faded due to the sun.
Citation: Les pièces sont d'or et non d'argent (couleur passée sur les plaques de rue, confirmation donnée par la mairie à J. Dulphy). FL00 80 (talk) 07:24, 12 April 2025 (UTC)
It does indeed look like the color of the street panel has faded; the original description on the web page has been corrected in 2018 only, the first file above hasn't been yet. --Kontributor 2K (talk) 09:22, 12 April 2025 (UTC)
Thanks Done on the first file. Abzeronow (talk) 18:18, 12 April 2025 (UTC)
I not directly request overwriting, but instead allow overwriting to me, Abzeronow you should revert the file to the version of 7 May, 2024 because I noticed with the crop made, it has reduced the resolution of the file, we can clearly see it with details on the red color. And the crop made is almost the same that the original that change nothing about less blank spaces around the file, but reduced the quality resolution as I said at the beginning of the message. Thank you. Mimosapong (talk) 19:25, 11 April 2025 (UTC)
I have reverted to 7 May 2024 version. Abzeronow (talk) 00:44, 12 April 2025 (UTC)
Abzeronow, at the related article, the file is too compressed like the file in Walmart; in Walmart they added the line: | logo_upright = 1.2 next to logo line to be easier to view, that's what should be too for this logo to the related article due to extended number of letters like Walmart logo and sun design next to letters.--Minosapong (talk) 16:04, 12 April 2025 (UTC)
I’d like to improve the map by adding a subtle glow effect to a few small islands under Japanese control, so they’re more visible on this scale. No historical boundaries were changed — just a visual enhancement. DannamEmpire (talk) 11:19, 12 April 2025 (UTC)

The color shade is too dark; it should be brighter, as this political movement was linked to the Viet Minh, which used a bright color scheme. Greenknight dv (talk) 00:05, 13 April 2025 (UTC)
The color scheme appears to be similar to related flags. Abzeronow (talk) 20:18, 13 April 2025 (UTC)
@Lkkarag557, @Abzeronow: That File:Flag of the Democratic Party of Vietnam.svg belongs to an unrelated, 21st-century party, whose flag is actually a bit brighter than the current version on Wikimedia Commons. Meanwhile, the 20th-century Democratic Party was a social democratic party in North Vietnam, and according to the 1946 source, its flag was described as "tính cách dân chủ được tượng trưng bằng mầu xanh da giời, nó cũng tượng trưng mối hy vọng tha thiết và bất diệt của dân tộc Việt Nam" ('the democratic character is symbolized by the sky blue color; it also represents the earnest and everlasting hope of the Vietnamese people'). In addition, I think that the 20th century Democratic Party's flag and the Viet Cong flag would share a similar color theme, as both were linked to North Vietnam. I have the original mkv video but it's a pain in the ass trying to convert it to webm. Yilku1 (talk) 14:42, 14 April 2025 (UTC)
I can't update the file because it only allows a max file size of 100MB. And the new converted file is 356MB. Yilku1 (talk) 15:00, 14 April 2025 (UTC)

@Jmabel: I'm going to get another opinion on this since this feels borderline to me, the general outline of the emblem is the same, but the text is noticeably different and so is the font. Should I allow an overwrite because the text changes are minor or should a new file be created and we differentiate between Rojava under the old regime and Rojava under the new Syrian government? Abzeronow (talk) 18:26, 14 April 2025 (UTC)
@Abzeronow: It's not a change that is the result of the new regime under al-Sharaa - the DAANES have themselves independently changed the name of their polity by adding "Democratic" to the name. There was a move discussion on the page on Wikipedia and the new polity names have been updated there . I don't think the font is too big of a deal, but I've tried to keep it as similar to the original version as possible. AntonSamuel (talk) 18:29, 14 April 2025 (UTC)
I was more speaking in terms of timeframe, not actions taken by the regimes. Since Commons supports more than 200 different projects, I try to be mindful of that and thus I do try to operate with caution with widely used files. Abzeronow (talk) 18:40, 14 April 2025 (UTC)
I may be confused, but neither of these is marked {{Current}} or any such, and I don't get the sense that they were inaccurate at time of upload. Couldn't someone reasonably believe they are adding a particular image to an article, and that it should remain as it is? - 21:34, 14 April 2025 (UTC)
@Abzeronow: @Jmabel: I don't think the change of the name is significant enough to warrant separate logos on Wikipedia for the time periods before and after "Democratic" was added to the name, it isn't treated as such on Wikipedia, there have been many changes of the name and the logo over time if you look at the history of the entity. Changing this file would make the transition a lot easier, but I can always upload new files and replace them on Wikipedia instead, it would be a lot more work required though, since so many different Wikipedia articles for different language Wikipedias link to these specific files. AntonSamuel (talk) 21:42, 14 April 2025 (UTC)
Anton, you mean English Wikipedia? I cannot base a change to this widely used file based on what just enwiki does. Yes, I think creating a new file might be better. I am open to suggestions about if the file should be renamed though. Abzeronow (talk) 21:50, 14 April 2025 (UTC)
@Abzeronow: The main argument is that the logo is used for articles describing the entity, and the logo's text is outdated with regard to what the entity calls itself. I did let the author of the file know that the logo featured outdated text , but as he seems inactive I took it upon myself to update the logo. I doubt his intended use of the file was that it would be limited to a specific time period in the past. AntonSamuel (talk) 21:57, 14 April 2025 (UTC)
I'll upload a seperate file for the updated logo with credit to the original author and change it manually on Wikipedia instead. AntonSamuel (talk) 07:44, 15 April 2025 (UTC)
@Abzeronow: The current version is outdated because there's a new information that South Korea will hold its Presidential election on June 3 due to Impeachment of Yoon Suk Yeol by Constitutional Court on April 4. I want request to overwriting the map to include the new information. Yayan550 (talk) 11:32, 14 April 2025 (UTC)

The color shade is too dark; the yellow should be brightened to align with the vibrant yellow used in Vietnamese flags. Greenknight dv (talk) 00:03, 13 April 2025 (UTC)
We already have a svg with a much brighter yellow. @Fry1989: . Abzeronow (talk) 20:09, 13 April 2025 (UTC)
@Fry1989, @Abzeronow: That File:Flag of RVN National Social Democratic Front.svg represents an unrelated party from the South Vietnam period. The Vanguard Youth of Vietnam was nominally aligned with the Empire of Vietnam, but was in fact led by Phạm Ngọc Thạch, a secret communist cadre who would ultimately lead the majority of the Vanguard Youth to join the Việt Minh in late August 1945. This is why the color arrangement of the Vanguard Youth flag was deliberately designed as the inverse of the Viet Minh flag. The colors still need to be brighter though. Greenknight dv (talk) 22:58, 13 April 2025 (UTC)
@Abzeronow: In the memoir of Trần Văn Giàu, Regional Committee Secretary of Cochinchina, he explained that the Vanguard Youth flag was designed based on the Việt Minh flag but was color-inversed to conceal its communist leadership. Let me know if you need me to make something else clear. Greenknight dv (talk) 17:18, 15 April 2025 (UTC)
The uploader seems to have forgotten to shade in the area which shows where Napier is located. Compare to e.g. File:Hastings in the North Island.svg from the same uploader which was shaded correctly.-Radicuil (talk) 05:37, 15 April 2025 (UTC)

Hello, I want update this file because some Kurdish areas, such as ilam province, are not on the map. Kurdistan sarbarz (talk) 13:56, 15 April 2025 (UTC)
No one should modify historic maps. The map is a historical artefact made by the CIA in 1992. There is no reason for anyone to change what the map shows. GPinkerton (talk) 16:15, 15 April 2025 (UTC)
Oh, thanks for your response But unfortunately the map has a lot of flaws and many Kurdish-speaking areas have been removed from it, thanks anyway. Kurdistan sarbarz (talk) 16:28, 15 April 2025 (UTC)
@Kurdistan sarbarz: My suggestion is for you to create a derivative work using this map as a source and fixing the various flaws with it (and putting what your fixes are in the description). Abzeronow (talk) 18:51, 15 April 2025 (UTC)
I had also changed the same map and fixed its bugs, I have not used another map, it is exactly the same map with editing and fixing the bugs.
And since this map has been used on many pages, I had in mind to update the map so that it would be updated on the pages as well.
But I think you mean re-uploading the new image, am I right? Kurdistan sarbarz (talk) 19:16, 15 April 2025 (UTC)
Yes, I mean that you should upload as a new file. Abzeronow (talk) 19:21, 15 April 2025 (UTC)
