Uttalanden är en del av den strukturerade datan. Ett uttalande är ett strukturerat sätt att lagra information om en fil. Ett uttalande består av ett påstående, inga eller fler referenser och en rang; ett påstående består i sin tur av en egenskap och antingen ett värde eller av specialfallen "inget värde" och "okänt värde" och inga eller flera bestämningar.
