Erläuterung
- A, B und C sind Prozesse (oder Orte)
- A1, A2 ... C5 sind Ereignisse oder Aktivitäten in diesen Prozessen (bzw. an diesen Orten)
- Die Kästen an den Ereignissen geben den jeweiligen Stand der Lamport-Uhr des betreffenden Prozesses wieder.
- Die Pfeile stellen die Übertragung von Nachrichten (bzw. von Effekten oder auch Daten) dar.
- Die dunkelblaue (bzw. dunkelrote) Fläche stellt die Usachen (bzw. die Effekte) des Ereignisses B4 dar.
- Die hellblaue (bzw. hellrote) Fläche stellt die Ereignisse dar, die von der Lamport-Uhr zwar als Ursache (bzw. als Effekt) eingeordnet werden, tatsächlich aber nebenläufig sind.
Es sind genau die Ereignisse zu B4 nebenläufig, von denen (bzw. zu denen) keine Information entlang der Pfeile nach (bzw. von) B4 fließt. Es ist leicht zu erkennen, dass die Lamport-Uhr einige Ereignisse nicht als nebenläufig erkennt. Das liegt daran, dass sie nur dem schwachen Konsistenzkriterium für Uhren genügt (siehe Logische Uhr).
