Starting in 2020, the portraits taken at GITMO were taken by military photographers and then distributed by the red cross according to the New York Times. By law, works of the U.S. military are public domain. If you can find a picture of bin-Shibh from 2020 or newer it should be acceptable. Minermatt122514 (talk) 03:27, 15 May 2026 (UTC)

Neither of the claims that this logo is in the public domain are true. 1) Border Guard Bangladesh were not named that, and did not use this logo until c. 2010. Before that the force was called the Bangladesh Rifles and used a logo, File:Bangladesh Rifles monogram.png, that contains similar elements, but differs in many details. It has not been 60 years since 2010 (or even since 1971, before which Bangladesh and the Bangladesh Rifles logo didn't exist), so copyright has not expired in Bangladesh. 2) The logo does not consist only of simple geometric shapes. The lotus flower, wreath, crossed rifles, and ribbon are all complex shapes exhibiting substantial creativity. Worldbruce (talk) 02:38, 4 March 2026 (UTC)

The logo is taken from a government publication (archive). Pre-2023 publications of the government and bodies appointed by the government are copyrighted but available under a usable license such as {{EdictGov-Bangladesh}} or, more specifically, {{BDGov-Report-2023}}.

Question Can logos included in these publications be assumed to fall under the same usable license as {{EdictGov-Bangladesh}}, or are copyrighted logos simply being used within otherwise copyright-usable content? My full review of all Bangladeshi laws did not provide any clarification. Government works are copyrighted under all applicable laws, and pre-2023 government reports have a copyright-usable license. However, neither the Bangladesh Copyright Office nor any court decisions seem to clarify this issue.

What is the Commons policy regarding this matter?Tausheef Hassan Auntu ✉Talk? 18:44, 11 April 2026 (UTC)
The law says reproducing "the report of any committee, commission, council, board or such other bodies appointed by the Government ..." does not constitute infringement of copyright. For example, in 2024, the Ministry of Home Affairs set up a seven-member National Independent Investigation Commission to re-investigate the Bangladesh Rifles revolt. The commission generated a report, and reproducing that report (if one could get a copy, and was not otherwise prohibited from doing so) would not infringe copyright.
The exception does not apply to all types of publications. The supposed source of this image is perhaps best described as a newsletter. The logo can be seen in whole or in part, in the background of various photographs in the newsletter, typically on banners advertising an event. Nothing in The Copyright Act, 2000, suggests that the banners, photographs, or newsletter can be freely reproduced without infringing copyright. --Worldbruce (talk) 03:00, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
the 2024 report would definitely infringe copyright as the "copyright act, 2023" does not have that clause. Also there is no formal definition saying what is or is not a report. General rule of thumb is "if the government wants to earn monetary gains from a work, then it should not be uploaded". The part where I am confused is that, if a report contains a government logo, can it be uploaded evenif the logo may be separately copyrighted? Tausheef Hassan Auntu ✉Talk? 10:16, 20 June 2026 (UTC)

There is no acceptable Freedom of Panorama in Indonesia. Buildings and monuments are not allowed to be freely used by anyone for commercial purposes. Sculptor w:en:Nyoman Nuarta authored this monument. Since there is already a case on one other government-owned monument (Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Selamat Datang Monument), we cannot rely on {{PD-IDGov}} for images of public monuments in the country.

While one law firm has explicitly supported the inclusion of FoP clause under the Indonesian copyright law, they are lobbying for a noncommercial version instead. Do not expect commercial-friendly FoP to be embraced in Indonesia anytime soon.

According to the inscription's signature, we can learn that this regular script stele inscription about the tourist attraction "Boyue Cave" was written and carved by a person named Fang Jiu (方久) in December 1999. According to China's copyright law, calligraphy and carving works do not enter the public domain until 50 years after the death of their creator; therefore, this regular script stele inscription does not belong to the public domain. The textual and graphical content presented on information noticeboards is not in the public domain and is protected by copyright law. See also: Commons:Copyright rules by subject matter#Noticeboards and signs: "As a rule of thumb, detailed informational and educational noticeboards/signs, such as the ones that are often found at historical or tourist sites, are almost always copyright-protected and photographs of them cannot usually be accepted. Noticeboards may include graphic images or extended textual matter, or both, and copyright is likely to subsist in both. 2D-artwork is included in the FoP copyright-exception in most FoP-countries, but not in: Argentina, Australia, Bangladesh, Barbados, Belize, Brunei, Canada, China."

Cordialement, Thomas. Thomas Lazzaroni (talk) 06:51, 10 March 2026 (UTC)

{{en}} : Good evening @Thomas Lazzaroni, I have just read your message and thank you. Regarding the green Infomaniak logo, it's the environmental version of the company's original official logo (see this link: https://www.globule-radio.fr/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/logo_infomaniak_environnementcarre.png). I did create this file by cropping the image and removing the leaf. The green logo with the leaf was on the official Infomaniak website at that time, in the environment/ecology section. What I can suggest is that you keep the file and rename it, replacing the word "official" with "environment" in the parentheses. Copyright Violation / False License: 1. Chronological Inconsistency: The metadata claims the date of creation is "1931", but the emblem clearly displays the year "2018" at the bottom. 2. Invalid PD-old-70 Claim: The uploader applied a "Life + 70 years" public domain tag. However, the author is listed as "AANES" (an organization, not an individual who died 70+ years ago), and the entity itself was established recently during the Syrian Civil War. 3. Improper Licensing: This is a modern administrative/military seal of an unrecognized autonomous administration. It does not qualify for public domain status under any existing legal framework provided in the metadata, and the information provided is clearly fraudulent to bypass copyright filters. File:Yuan Longping in 1962.jpg

This 1962 photograph might be in the public domain in China now, but it was not in the public domain there on the URAA date in 1996. So it is still protected in the US (95 years from first publication). It has the {{Not-PD-US-URAA}} tag, but that is not allowed for new uploads after March 1, 2012 (the file was uploaded in April 2014). So the file should be deleted. It can be restored in 2058 (1962 + 95 + 1). Assuming it was published in 1954 (which is likely since it appears to be a publicity photo), the photo's copyright only expired in 2004 per COM:India, meaning it was still copyrighted in India in 1996 and its US copyright was thus extended by the URAA.
