Summary

Description The University of the Arts' Merriam Theater at 250 S. Broad Street at the corner of Manning Street in the Avenue of the Arts cultural district of Center City, Philadelphia is the center of the University's School of Music. The theatre was built in 1918 by the Shubert Organization as the Sam S. Shubert Theatre, and was designed by Herbert J. Krapp. Additions and renovations were made in 1958, and the theatre was modernized in 1986. It was re-dedicated to John W. Merriam, a benefactor of the University, in 1991.
