I maintain that this file should be deleted. •  Comment.:{{PD-old-70}} is inapplicable here as the author is explicitly unknown. {{PD-Serbia}} has been suggested but not argued, a private archive citation does not establish Serbian authorship or publication as required by that tag. Thanks @IronGargoyle Understood re PD-Serbia.
Separate point: is there a reliable source supporting the identification in the current description "Soldiers of the Fifth Regiment of the Serbian Volunteer Corps on the left, Pavle Đurišić's Chetniks and a Muslim in Priboj, occupied Montenegro" ? I’m not seeing a source for this on the file page. Rajendra Alben (talk) 19:36, 19 February 2026 (UTC)
  • The LNA catalogue record lists Valsts/country as Vācija ie Germany, and studio UFA which was a commercial entity, not a government body. {{PD-Serbia}} and {{PD-GermanGov}} therefore inapplicable. {{PD-old-70}} also inapplicable as Autori/author listed as unknown. The filename is "SDK and Chetniks at Priboj" when none of these are mentioned in the LNA source. Five specific claims in the description including religious identification of an unnamed individual are absent from the LNA source. Caption question raised 19 February unanswered. File:Fusajiro Yamauchi.png

Upon closer examination, there are significant discrepancies regarding the identity of the individual depicted in the image, as well as concerns about the accuracy of the information provided by the uploader.

The image is purportedly of en:Fusajiro Yamauchi, the founder of Nintendo, who would have been approximately 80 years old around 1940. However, the person in the image appears far younger than this age, leading to doubts about the image's authenticity in representing Fusajiro Yamauchi.

The original listed source of the image is a Brazilian website, where the photograph was not dated. Contrarily, the uploader has arbitrarily dated it to "circa 1940" without providing any verifiable source or rationale for this specific timeframe. This discrepancy raises questions about the reliability of the information accompanying the image.

The individual in the photograph might actually be en:Hiroshi Yamauchi, a subsequent president of Nintendo, rather than Fusajiro Yamauchi. Unfortunately, there seems to be a lack of available photographs or portraits of Fusajiro Yamauchi for a direct comparison, further complicating the verification process. The apparent age of the individual in the photograph aligns more closely with Hiroshi Yamauchi than with Fusajiro Yamauchi in 1940. Comparing with the File:Hiroshi Yamauchi, Nintendo president.jpg photo of Hiroshi, this might be well the case, considering the quirky brows. However, because there's no verifable date of the photo, we might not be able to use the `PD-Japan-oldphoto` template too.

- Sleeps-Darkly (talk) 00:01, 4 March 2024 (UTC)

@Sleeps-Darkly In that image he does not look young, it is seen that he is already an elderly person, instead of nominating him for elimination, it is better to be cautious and change the image name and license. Aurelio de Sandoval (Mensajes aquí please) 00:47, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
Not even close to be 80 years old, though. His grand-grandson Hiroshi Yamauchi at the same age was fully grey-haired and wrinkled. Sleeps-Darkly (talk) 01:02, 4 March 2024 (UTC)

  • Comment. It seems like the author of the Nintendo Blast article is still active on the Internet (see https://twitter.com/jaimeninice ). Anyone want to volunteer to message him and just ask where exactly the picture came from and what its provenance is? (Note that Yamauchi died in 1940 so I suspect the uploader meant "at the latest, 1940", so Yamauchi appearing not as old as expected is not necessarily a huge problem if the picture is really from 1930 or something.) SnowFire (talk) 05:47, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
I'm suspecting that the article isn't the earliest example of that, because the similar image that is uploaded at https://nintendo.fandom.com/wiki/History_of_Nintendo was uploaded earlier than the article; the article is July 2014, while that upload is March 2014. Like the whole mess is from something else. So in my own opition the mentioned nintendoblast article isn't the original source, so isn't even really relevant. - Sleeps-Darkly (talk) 18:59, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
  • Comment. Are we sure this image was taken in 1940 ? I am working on Fusajiro Yamauchi article and I believe he may have died in 1929 and not in 1940. Finding the exact date and source of this picture would be a nice event. - DanganMachin (talk) 21:12, 16 May 2024 (UTC)

Kept: All sources agree on it being Fusajiro Yamauchi. I'd take 1940 as the last possible date. but this was probably from the 1920s. --Abzeronow (talk) 18:01, 21 May 2024 (UTC)

File:Fusajiro Yamauchi.png

There is no evidence that this photo actually depicts Fusajiro Yamauchi or was taken in 1940. The only places I can find this image are on a Fandom wiki and on Nintendoblast (which came after the Fandom article), and neither actually provide the original source. Without any proof of publication date, COM:PCP applies here. We are essentially taking a Fandom article at it's word that this photo is what it claims to be, which probably isn't a good idea. ArtemisiaGentileschiFan (talk) 15:45, 3 February 2026 (UTC)

  •  Keep I am not seeing any evidence presented that is is not the person it is labeled as. The image is marked: "The factual accuracy of this description or the file name is disputed." At other websites using it, I am not seeing people disputing the image. I changed the date to "before 1940", it was "circa 1940", which generally means +/- 5 years. The cutoff for PD is 1 January 1947, and we know he was alive when the image was taken. COM:PCP requires "significant doubt", which would be some evidence. --RAN (talk) 02:32, 27 February 2026 (UTC)
The significant doubt comes in because we have no evidence of when this photo was actually taken or published. We don't even know who took or published it. The only info about this photo is that a Fabdom wiki claims it to be Yamauchi, but presents no evidence or background info. ArtemisiaGentileschiFan (talk) 21:52, 27 February 2026 (UTC)

The map is blatant misinformation without a source. The Balkar lands were not transferred; the republic's name was merely temporarily changed from the Kabardino-Balkarian ASSR to the Kabardin ASSR. The Balkar lands never existed as such; the western part of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (Zolsky (Nagorny District)) was never part of the Balkar District, the Balkar Autonomous Okrug, or the Balkar Okrug. We don't have any information on the threshold of originality in Lithuania therefore even a sculpture in the shape of a circle might be protected by copyright. Nakonana (talk) 06:46, 10 April 2026 (UTC)
Keep Lublin is located in Poland – See COM:FOP Poland. despite the "Vilnius" claimed that sculpture was located in Lithuania, but it was located in Poland. They found in Polish word KONKURENCYNJE CENY, Lublin is located in Poland according to the category. Don't you believe this sculpture was located in Poland?!!! it's not located in Lithuania despite that filename. TentingZones1 (talk) 06:34, 14 April 2026 (UTC)
You are onto something: the blue street sign in the background says "ul. Hugo...", "ul." is short for "ulica" which is the Polish word for "street". The Lithuanian word for "street" is very different from the Polish word so there's no questioning that this sculpture is located in Poland. The file name might just be the name of the sculpture. If you downloaded it or a template of it from the Canadian Government, that is a seperate matter, but I am not aware of the Canadian Government making such vector files readily available. It is clearly NOT a trace or mere copy of the version hosted by the Government. We must also consider the fact that the underlying design of the badge, aside from the crown, is out of date according to the license. Fry1989 eh? 19:44, 8 February 2026 (UTC)

Absent a response from either user, I move to close with keeping the file. It is clear that this work was not created by the Canadian Government and differs sufficiently to qualify as own work. Fry1989 eh? 16:00, 4 April 2026 (UTC)
The original uploader does not object to deletion, and as the underlying badge design remains a derivative work with unclear licensing, this should be deleted per COM:PCP. Wcam (talk) 14:58, 6 April 2026 (UTC)
The original uploader need not put forward an explicit objection. Excluding situations around copyright and presuming everything else is in order, files uploaded to Commons are generally considered irrevocable. Uploaders don't need to say "No, please don't delete my file. I want it to stay!" Based on the uploader's complete silence ever since, it would appear to me that you scared them away from any further participation on the project. Silence is not an endorsement.
I believe it is quite safe to say this is not work of the Canadian Government, nor a copy / trace / direct immitation and therefore not a violation of that image. PCP is for when there is considerable doubt. I find no doubt here. The license states the expiration of crown copyright after 50 years. The basic design, excluding recent alterations, exceeds 58 years. Fry1989 eh? 15:25, 7 April 2026 (UTC)
My only reservation would be that it features the Canadian Royal Crown. Unlike the Tudor Crown, it contains a lot of original features and was created only in 2023. I have not said anything elsewhere, but I'm pretty certain that any design featuring it would be an infringement of Canadian Crown Copyright. Dgp4004 (talk) 07:03, 9 April 2026 (UTC)
This is a significant enough doubt that COM:PCP should apply. Wcam (talk) 03:14, 10 April 2026 (UTC)
It would, however, involve deleting a number of files uploaded by Rcsd22 below, and replacing their use on Wikipedia with fair use images from official sources, so I have been hesitant to raise it:

To give the gist of it in English: The file does not show thr coat-of-arms of the diocese of Würzburg. The relevant article lists ample scholarly literature on the topic. The issue has already been discussed at various places of the German Wikipedia, and there is no doubt that the coat-of-arms shown here are wrong. If anyone wants the correct c-o-a of Würburg diocese, we already have it here https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Frankenrechen.svg. Best wishes CRolker (talk) 15:07, 9 November 2025 (UTC)

Siehe u.a. Peter Kolb, Die Wappen der Würzburger Fürstbischöfe, Würzburg 1974, S. 19–51 und Claus D. Bleisteiner, Kirchliche Heraldik in Bayern. Die Wappen der Erzbischöfe und Bischöfe seit 1817, 2. Auflage, Neustadt an der Aisch 1986, S. 16–17 oder zuletzt Erwin Gatz, Die Wappen der Hochstifte, Bistümer und Diözesanbischöfe im Heiligen Römischen Reich 1648 - 1803, Regensburg 2007. •  Speedy keep per COM:INUSE. A file that's so extremely widely used cannot be summarily deleted on Commons because the scholarly literature shows that it's not the right file. You face the much harder task of posting this information and these arguments to the file's talk page and linking the discussion on the talk page of every page that is using this file. There is no legitimate shortcut, and I certainly believe the closing admin will follow through and close this deletion request as a "Keep" in this situation. Try counting the number of pages that would be left with holes if this deletion request were agreed to in contravention of Commons policy! -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 05:49, 18 December 2025 (UTC)
זיו「Ziv」For love letters and other notes 10:38, 14 January 2026 (UTC)

Kept: per COM:INUSE. Ein Austausch mit einem neuen Wappen sollte zuerst erfolgen. זיו「Ziv」For love letters and other notes 10:39, 14 January 2026 (UTC)

File:Wappen Bistum Würzburg.png

Fictious arms with wrong file name: the arms depicted are not those of Würzburg diocese (nor the pre-1803 arms of the hochstift which look similar). Not used in actual articles, nor usable for any article. CRolker (talk) 21:41, 3 February 2026 (UTC)

  •  Delete, per nom, since the file is no longer used and usefull. The last 4 pages that still use the coat of arms on deWP are only project or discussion pages + one user page (incomplete article). זיו「Ziv」For love letters and other notes 20:55, 5 March 2026 (UTC)
On three of the four pages, the image is only displayed to make clear it is not the Würzburg c-o-a. Hope we can solve this issue within the next weeks. atb CRolker (talk) 18:07, 27 March 2026 (UTC)

There is no freedom of panorama in Russia for sculpture and probably the photo violates sculptor's copyright. This is 1972 statue and protected with copyright in USA until 2068 (95+1 years from publication) – in Russia maybe more, depends on when the sculptor died. Taivo (talk) 21:57, 3 February 2026 (UTC)
