Exempting File:The Beast of Yucca Flats poster.webp (just uploaded), as the movie's copyright does not extend to the poster. Based5290 (talk) 06:53, 5 October 2025 (UTC)
  • Weak keep. The behavior of subsequent distributors, including MST3K, indicates a generalized belief that the film fell into the public domain. If Anthony Cardoza reasserted copyright in 1988 (Francis was long dead, but Cardoza lived until 2015), I think that's news to everyone. See for example . Mackensen (talk) 12:22, 5 October 2025 (UTC)
Could you elaborate on the MST3K situation? Either way, I'm not sure why folk belief would factor into a copyright status.
The film's copyright notice asserts that Francis was the copyright owner, but it's conceivable that:
    • The copyright notice is just wrong and Cardoza was a joint owner or Cardoza-Francis Film Productions entirely owned it (while this is technically defective, I believe there are cases showing that mislabeled ownership is not enough to void a copyright notice)
    • When Francis died, he passed the ownership entirely to Cardoza or Cardoza-Francis Film Productions
