General architecture

As proposed on meta e discussed with the current two main chapters sponsoring the event, WMCH, and WMEE, the competition fulfills two different goals.

• in odd-numbered years (2017, 2019, 2021, 2023, 2025) the competition is open and engaged to attract new uploaders and create networking in academia.
• in even-numbered years, the competition focuses on articles and promotes the best images. Starting from 2020, there have been scientific article competitions, and starting from 2022, the uploaded good/quality/featured images during the previous two years, and the finalists of the "monthly photo challenge" have gotten attention.

Local editions can enlarge their scope beyond multimedia as well, the international edition is so far based on video, charts and images but it might evolve in the future.
