Optimization tag

Hi. It's prolly related to User talk:Vulphere/Archive 1#Optimization of uploaded images is undesired. You always place your optimization tag that contains your logo when you have done some optimization to SVG files. Instead of seeing the license notice, the first thing I see is that your tag with your logo in it. Is this practice common on Wikimedia Commons? I think the comment of file history is enough for changes like this. Labdajiwa (talk) 06:47, 28 May 2021 (UTC)

If it’s only quick optimisations to reduce the filesize or correct some W3C errors, it’s not really common practice no, it kind of hide all the work of the previous user(s). I think Vulphere uses this template to track their files, but I think adding a user category could be enough.

@Vulphere: Please do neither remove Doctype-Defintion, see Help:SVG guidelines#DTD or no DTD nor Comments, see Help:SVG guidelines#Useless elements that should be kept. Be aware that: Help:SVG guidelines#Why validation is generally not desired , especially remind yourself about Help:SVG guidelines#SVG sourcecode edits without visual change.

@Thibaut120094 and Labdajiwa: For me User:Vulphere looks like they are doing something undesired (svg optimization = useless tickling of watchlists & wasting disk-space & wasting rendering-time & crowding file-history) to promote there name/work. There is no reason why such edits are done by humans, such edits could e.g. also be done by a bot (e.g. no tickling of watchlists, permission for specific optimiation-options, the aim of such bots is much clearer because the have a specific target [i.e. understandable file-history], it could be applied to all svg-files, not to random selections ).

Exceptions to DTD and RDF for SVG logos (PD-textlogos and CC-licensed logos that already simplified by copyright owners): Some SVG logos intended for public consumption like those in Category:MetaBrainz are already simplified (without DTD and RDF) by the creators at MetaBrainz (https://github.com/metabrainz/metabrainz-logos) and they are CC-licensed (I did some edits with text editor before uploading them here) and most if not all SVG logos that I uploaded are PD-textlogos (design ineligible for copyright and most uploaders (including mine) do not claim any new copyright for their extraction or vectorisation, exceptions exist with CC-licensed vectorisation of PD-textlogos but they are rare), I recognise some CC-licensed logos like File:Qemu_logo.svg which I keep the RDF with attribution and licensing information. To SVG logos that lack title I would add title (I also do that with new upload). I rarely encountered comments with PD-textlogos (most of those I have encountered are Created with Sketch and sometimes I add comments to SVG logo without it).

Some CC-licensed SVG logos have default, bare-bone RDF information (generated by Ilustrator or Inkscape) at the first place (few exceptions including QEMU logo above with properly filled RDF information). Would adding proper RDF to bare-bone RDF of CC-licensed SVG logos be useful? Probably yes.

Also, some SVG logos that used for webpage (I grab them from Inspect Element or Page Info with Firefox) are already simplified (without SVG version tag, title, DTD, and RDF like https://www.ruangguru.com/hubfs/OPTIMIZE/logo%20rg.svg) and I edit them to add SVG version tag and title, adding DTD and RDF manually would serve nothing to them.

From what I have observed, most of PD-textlogos that grabbed from webpage (either as SVG image or directly embedded into the webpage) got their DTD and RDF when the uploaders (possibly unaware about them) post-processed them with vector graphics editor and saved them in native file format (I saved them as optimised SVG logo on Inkscape and manually post-processed with text editor). Webpage PD-textlogos that uploaded slavishly without any post-processing (or post-processed with text editor, unless manually added) lack them just like their original code. Would adding DTD and RDF manually to them with text editor make sense? I do not think so and lack of RDF should not be an issue for PD-textlogos (unless the uploaders explicitly licensed their extraction or vectorisation with a compatible CC license but again this situation is rare as I mentioned above).

I understand that for some SVG files like copyrighted logos (like https://www.allenandunwin.com/templates/base/images/logo.svg (copyrightable Australian logo, uploaded as fair-use on en.wp), even with them I rarely encountered them with complete RDF information as with most webpage SVG logo), diagrams and maps, RDF is important to record licensing information and should never be removed but I rarely (if any) upload diagrams and maps and mostly stick with PD-textlogos for SVG on Commons. I use SVGedit for editing and probably should limit its usage (or upload simplified logos as new files)--Vulphere 03:23, 30 May 2021 (UTC)

@Cards84664: , after looking around the Toei Subway section of Tokyo Metropolitan Bureau of Transportation website (https://www.kotsu.metro.tokyo.jp/subway/) I unable to found any distinct logo for Toei Subway (both in English and Japanese) and all materials available there using the standard Bureau of Transportation logo, the closest one that I could get is Toei Transportation combined logo.--Vulp❯❯❯here! 05:54, 20 July 2021 (UTC)

Standard shell / terminal

When taking screenshots in the terminal such as File:Lets_Encrypt_R3_certificate_detail_screenshot.png please use a more standard terminal/shell so it looks normal. You seem to be using some weird shell or some weird non-conventional configuration. -- Frap (talk) 13:48, 7 September 2021 (UTC)
