Photos from questionable Flickr account. The Flickr user appears to be Pino Presti, but it seems unlikely he owns these photos, considering at least two, possible four are screenshots of video footage, the other a scan, and one is an autographed publicity photo of Shirley Bassey. Appears to be an unintentional case of COM:FLICKRWASH.

File:Shirley Bassey to Pino Presti affectionately.jpg

The image is not an autograph, but a dedication given to Pino Presti after a series of collaborations with Shirley Bassey in the studio and on tour in January 1970. The image is owned by Presti himself and published by undermeier1 on Flickr --CoolJazz5 (talk) 14:04, 12 February 2026 (UTC)

License laundering. Photos must be created by NIST to be PD, not just published. See Commons:Deletion requests/File:Wtc collapse side by side (colors).png for example.

Based5290 (talk) 04:03, 4 February 2026 (UTC)

Oops didn't mean to nominate the NBC Studios photos. Those appear to be plausibly legitimate. Based5290 (talk) 04:05, 4 February 2026 (UTC)
Why would it need to be created by NIST to be public domain? Can it not be created by an individual who releases the image to the public domain? BretHarteChitown (talk) 00:18, 6 February 2026 (UTC)
Yes, but the problem is that it is obvious that the Flickr user is not the author of any of these works and therefore cannot legally release these images into the public domain. Based5290 (talk) 03:55, 6 February 2026 (UTC)
Delete I expressed doubts earlier that this Flickr account was the author of its photos with some photos being uploaded online prior to appearing on the Flickr account. Traumnovelle (talk) 04:20, 9 February 2026 (UTC)

File:Matojo va a la Playa.webm

Although the Youtube source provides a CC license, that source is not the copyright holder. This is a Cuban animation from 1983 according to IMDB. Note that a search for "Matojo va a la Playa" on Youtube will turn up a couple of other instances of this animation. Whpq (talk) 04:17, 4 February 2026 (UTC)

It seem like both cartoon and account are deleted on Youtube now, and I can't access to Wayback Machine. I'll check later.
If It's true the uploader was "pepe corneta" and not an official site, then  Delete and Undelete in 2034.
If I mistakenly did put a wrong source and it happens to be from an official channel, then  Keep

I checked the archived version, and yes, it was not uploaded by any official account, so  Delete (and no undelete in 2034, because it seems Cuba has either perpetual copyright for corporate works (it seems crazy to me) or 50 year after author's death -Manuel Lamar Cuervo died in 2019, so it's 2070 at least).--TaronjaSatsuma (talk) 13:11, 4 February 2026 (UTC)

Not a federal employee. See https://www.flickr.com/photos/rudis323/30941894068/, where there is a very clear copyright notice for a person, which would likely not happen if this was actually a federal work.

Based5290 (talk) 04:19, 4 February 2026 (UTC)

Theses files could have new licenses. Have you checked the licensing history here first? BretHarteChitown (talk) 01:08, 6 February 2026 (UTC)
As far as I know, it's always been CC0. However, my issue is whether the Flickr user has permission to upload and license these photos at all; given that there are so many images from so many different authors all included in the NIST FOIA, I'd say this is obviously implausible. File:P200098 Photo of Firefighter Danny Suhr on 9-11-01.jpg

Unclear authorship. Publication by the federal government does not lead to public domain status. I looked through this anonymous collection of photos which are unambiguously PD, and I was unable to find this photo in there. Could be produced by FDNY, NYPD, or a private photographer who may or may not have relinquished their rights over this image. Based5290 (talk) 04:32, 4 February 2026 (UTC)

I can confirm that this photo was taken by NY Daily News photographer Todd Maisel. I have spoken with him in the past for permission to use his photos in projects and he informed me that the NY Daily News owns the rights to the image and could not authorize me to use them. This photo is not public domain.

Noticeboards in churches of Changsha

No FoP for 2D works in China. The textual and graphical content presented on noticeboards in a church is not in the public domain and is protected by copyright law. See also: Commons:Copyright rules by subject matter#Noticeboards and signs: "As a rule of thumb, detailed informational and educational noticeboards/signs, such as the ones that are often found at historical or tourist sites, are almost always copyright-protected and photographs of them cannot usually be accepted. Noticeboards may include graphic images or extended textual matter, or both, and copyright is likely to subsist in both. 2D-artwork is included in the FoP copyright-exception in most FoP-countries, but not in: Argentina, Australia, Bangladesh, Barbados, Belize, Brunei, Canada, China." --Huangdan2060 (talk) 13:44, 4 February 2026 (UTC)

  •  Comment The Foundation Arnaldo Pomodoro, owner of the copyright of the artist, in 2018 has authorized the publication on Wikimedia Commons with license CC-BY-SA 4.0 of the images of all the works by the artist on public display in Italy. Unfortunately from the authorization's wording it's unclear wether it's valid also outside the WLM contests. This photo was indeed uploaded in 2018, after the authorization, but apparently it wasn't uploaded within the WLM contest. If @Joern M will ever read this message he can download the photo now (or request a temporary undeletion here if the photo has already been deleted) and reupload it in September during the next Wiki Loves Monuments contest. These 1909 to 1915 sculptures by Danish sculptor Einar Utzon-Frank (1888–1955) are in the public domain in both Denmark and the US now as such. The photographs showing the sculptures however are not the uploader's own work, but they were taken from the Internet (as evidenced by reverse image searches). Photographs of 3D artworks (like these) are copyrighted on their own (see Commons:Copyright rules by subject matter#3D art (sculptures etc.)), and there is no evidence (not even a proper source/URL) to support the implied claim that they were released into the public domain (as evidenced by the PD license tags the files were uploaded with). So the files should be deleted as COM:NETCOPYVIOs.

I can't explain (or recall) why I might have selected the date of creation as being in 91 when as to the best of my recollection this was in fact taken sometime between 93-96. That was my error. But this is my work.
I hope you will see that, barring a few historical bishop portrait uploads yesterday which again I will acknowledge as flippant disregard for copyright regulations and apologize for, I have in fact acted in good faith with my photo uploads--the other four instances of copyright violation having happened five and ten years ago. Just like the covers for Abbey Road and Sgt. Reusers of this file outside of the U.S. should take care that restrictions on usage may remain in their country." I would say its in the public domain Wcamp9 (talk) 02:54, 9 February 2026 (UTC)
  • the copyright in one or more of the other source countries remains" therefore it is not in the public domain
Headlock0225 (talk) 12:40, 13 February 2026 (UTC)
Then how is Abbey Road and Sgt. Peppers album covers PD? Also I took that straight out of the commons template and this is U.S. publishing and also was a publicity photo Wcamp9 (talk) 18:54, 14 February 2026 (UTC)
Also a search in the U.S. Copyright office shows nothing Wcamp9 (talk) 20:52, 8 March 2026 (UTC)

Files in Category:Sealand

Images of Sealand stamps are works of British nationals, not Sealand as Sealand is an internationally unrecognized micronation. The copyright to Sealand stamps would be governed by British copyright law. The {{PD-Because}} statement that "Sealand has no copyright law and is not a member of any copyright treaties " (the link is now dead with no archives) is irrelevant because Sealand is incapable of having its own separate copyright law from the UK.

File:2026 Alaska State House election.svg

Misnamed file covering same ground as File:2024 Alaska State House election.svg, but with slight differences in shading. 2026 elections are still far off into the future. Presume one or the other file is incorrect. RadioKAOS / Talk to me, Billy / Transmissions 21:46, 4 February 2026 (UTC)

The 2026 file covers retirements and eventual primary election defeats (and general election changes when we get there) @RadioKAOS. Current shading refers to incumbents who are retiring or running again. Talthiel (talk) 21:50, 4 February 2026 (UTC)
You should rename it, then. These maps are generally understood to reflect certified election results. If that's not the purpose, all you're doing is misleading people. RadioKAOS / Talk to me, Billy / Transmissions 22:36, 4 February 2026 (UTC)
File moved. I believe that should resolve this. Leaving redirect until it is clear there is consensus. - Jmabel ! talk 01:08, 5 February 2026 (UTC)
@Jmabel: I overlooked the "Uploaded while editing Wikipedia" part. I guess we're further proving how worthless the usual project pages are, when "Uploaded while editing Wikipedia" is the bane of Commons in discussions on those pages, while here we are soft-pedalling when dealing directly with such contributions. Then there's the "losses of renomination" part. First off, the primary election is 6+ months away as of this writing. Since the adoption of ranked choice voting, effective with the 2022 elections, "losses of renomination" really doesn't mean anything. There are no more party nominations; the primary advances the top four finishers regardless of party. Since RCV has been shown to favor candidates with money and/or name recognition, the chance of an incumbent losing in the primary is next to nil. Anyway, what I'm getting from the uploader is that this file serves the sole purpose of reflecting a set of temporary circumstances related to an event that's many months down the road, effectively providing pretty graphics to explain something that's either already explained or can be explained in the article through prose. Because there are few settled facts related to this election, this file amount to little more than window dressing. Talthiel, when circumstances change, is your intent to overwrite this file or upload the updated file separately? Either way, I see issues with COM:SCOPE and multiple sections of WP:NOT. Here on the Commons side, we've already dealt with Wikipedians who draw up graphics related to partisan composition of the legislature and overwrite the file every two years, because they think our purpose is to reflect current events and/or news instead of history. RadioKAOS / Talk to me, Billy / Transmissions 02:26, 8 February 2026 (UTC)
Commons allows files that are intended to reflect current circumstances and are intended to be updated as circumstances change (though usually they are marked with {{Current}}). - Jmabel ! talk 04:57, 8 February 2026 (UTC)
