also File:Begum Zia Book-opening Ceremony, 1 Mar, 2010 cropped.jpg

I do not believe that this is an own work. Here’s why.

TawsifSalam first edited the en:Khaleda Zia article in June 2009, at which time the article had a photo. By the time of their second edit later that year, the photo had been deleted. By February 2010, the user has made five edits to the article. On 1 March 2010, they apparently took this photo of Khaleda Zia – note that it’s of good quality. More article edits happen during December 2010, whilst the article is illustrated with a quite acceptable crop of the subject’s image. On 3 July 2011, TawsifSalam apparently took this poor-quality photo of the subject, uploads it to Commons, and then replaces the infobox image. And on 19 July 2011, TawsifSalam uploads their February 2010 photo of the subject and adds it to the infobox. It’s of much superior quality to the 3 July photo. If the user has had that good-quality photo of the subject all along, it does not make sense to have uploaded the poor-quality photo first. Hence, I do not believe that the February 2010 photo is an “own” work.

In addition, I’ve looked through the user’s uploads from the early 2010s. They were either using a Canon PowerShot A590 IS or a Samsung smartphone. This is the only photo that I could find taken with a Canon EOS 50D, further suggesting that it’s somebody else’s work.

I would have discussed these concerns with the user first, but they haven't edited since 2024. Schwede66 01:25, 3 January 2026 (UTC)

It's because the photo was taken be me with a camera owned by an acquaintance of mine. Later he gave me permission to use the photo and as a result it was uploaded. TawsifSalam (talk) 11:29, 3 January 2026 (UTC)
@Schwede66 would this require confirmation through VRT? Chorchapu (talk) 16:07, 6 January 2026 (UTC)
Copyright rests with the photographer, and not the owner of a camera. Not sure what VRT's role would be in this. Schwede66 20:50, 6 January 2026 (UTC)
  • Do not delete As the uploader has confirmed that the image was taken by himself and no one else have claimed copyright to the image, or we can not find this image in other website from where the upload may have downloaded it, on basis of good faith, I think it should not be deleted. Also to be noted, copyright of image rests with the cameraman, not with the owner of the camera. The image has proper exif information to believe that it was the uploader's own work.Rht bd (talk) 11:24, 18 March 2026 (UTC)

In most countries, all paintings, sculpture, architecture, text, and other creative works have copyrights which last for 70 years after the death of the creator. An image of a work that is still under copyright is a derivative work, and infringes on the copyright so that we cannot usually keep the image on Commons. In some countries, there is a special exception to the copyright law which allows such images under certain circumstances. We call that exception freedom of panorama (FOP). Unfortunately there is no applicable FOP exception in Belarus.

Comment The aquarium was originally commissioned by the Municipality of Genova for the 1992 Expo, but as it was opened it was still incomplete. Subsequent works were partly commissioned by a private company created by the Municipality. Therefore, it's unclear wether PD-ItalyGov applies to the building and if yes, to which parts.  Comment The Bigo was completed in 1992 (not 2001). It was commissioned to Renzo Piano by the Municipality of Genoa (see here and here with the original project), therefore it fell under Template:PD-ItalyGov in 2013. The only doubt that I have is about US copyright: it's not a building in the proper sense of the word, but given the high threshold of originality for functional structures in US copyright, it may fall under Template:PD-structure (it would have a US copyright only considering it an artwork or a sculpture, which seems to me a bigger stretch than considering it a structure). The building was only completed in 2017, while its architect, Renzo Piano, is still alive. So, in practice, and if we take into consideration that there's no FoP (Freedom of Panorama) in Greece, any depiction of this building and its spaces (also designed or decorated by still alive architects and artists) present on Commons should be deleted. Unless, of course, special permission from the main architect or any of the architects and artists involved in this process is received. --🏺ⲈⲨⲐⲨⲘⲈⲚⲎⲊ🏛️ ⲱⲑⲏⲥⲁⲧⲉ 22:50, 3 January 2023 (UTC)

Indeed Εὐθυμένης, you are right. According to SNFCC's webpage [t]he material of amateur photography or filming may not be reproduced for commercial reasons in any way, which violates the Commons policy. Furthermore, [p]rofessional photography and filming for commercial, promotional, tourist or artistic reasons in the SNFCC areas are permitted ONLY after the approval of a formal request from the SNFCC. Compensation will be determined based on the conditions and prerequisites that the SNFCC states. So the files in this category should be deleted. At least those which reproduce the building, not the gardens or the environs.-- Texniths (talk) 07:25, 17 March 2023 (UTC)
@Texniths: Both the [obvious and notable] lack of FOP in Greece + the clear mention on the website of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center should be more than enough as evidence I think, in my humble opinion. 🏺ⲈⲨⲐⲨⲘⲈⲚⲎⲊ🏛️ ⲱⲑⲏⲥⲁⲧⲉ 19:38, 17 March 2023 (UTC)
PS. @Texniths: Regarding the gardens, my stance on this matter is that as long as we're talking solely about plants then, yes, of course they can remain. Because, otherwise, any architectural elements or floral architecture (no idea if this term is right though) that are added or built in the actual location of the gardens seem to fall as well in the [problematic] area of the lack of FOP in Greece. 🏺ⲈⲨⲐⲨⲘⲈⲚⲎⲊ🏛️ ⲱⲑⲏⲥⲁⲧⲉ 19:41, 17 March 2023 (UTC)
@Εὐθυμένης Yes exactly. The pictures depicting the building, both interior and outdoor, can't be kept in my opinion. Most of the pictures of the gardens can be kept. The views of Athens from SNFCC in this category can be kept.-- Texniths (talk) 21:49, 17 March 2023 (UTC)

I would say  Keep File:Moscow Feb-Mar 1981 (8140100405).jpg because it's De Minimis.
For the rest, I have to wonder whether this counts as "sculpture" rather than "architecture"/"engineering" because there were no artists or sculptors involved in the creation of this work. The authors are per the w:ru:Покорителям космоса article:
So, if it's found to be a sculpture, undelete in 2092. Nakonana (talk) 12:46, 7 March 2026 (UTC)
My bad, there's a sculptor listed further down the infobox in the article:
Which means the photos can be undeleted in 2038. Nakonana (talk) 12:53, 7 March 2026 (UTC)
When I uploaded them, I assessed that there wasn't enough creativity to be protected by copyright (photos almost completely shows a metal wall, which is an architectural structure rather than a sculpture). But given that the copyright rules here are very strict (and often absurd), I decided to nominate them for deletion. I will be glad if they will decide that these photos can be here. If not, the files will still be restored someday. Юрий Д.К. 12:58, 7 March 2026 (UTC)
