Baines' illustrations 1865 (and comparisons)
In 1865 the traveller and artist Thomas Baines published illustrations of the falls. In human history a great deal has changed around the falls, but the falls themselves seem the same as ever.
- "The falls by sunrise, with the spray cloud rising 1200 feet"
- Spray cloud from the air in 1972
- "The falls from the western end of the chasm (from the Leaping Water and Three Rill Cliff to Garden Island.)"
- Same viewpoint in 2006, with rainbow
- "Great western (or main) fall, from Three Rill Cliff to Garden Island."
- 2006, from the Zimbabwean side
- "The falls from the eastern end of the chasm to Garden Island."
- 2001, from the Zambian side
- "Herd of buffaloes driven to the edge of the chasm, opposite Garden Island"
- In 2003, the buffaloes were protected: this area is now Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park in Zambia
