What if the original author has changed their license permissions

Front Office Sports originally uploaded its videos under a Creative Common license, especially this one I earlier tagged for deletion as copyvio.

It has removed its "Creative Common" license from its videos now, check this.

So my question is if the original author changes their Creative Commons license later or removes it, should we remove the work in question which we uploaded on commons under that original license? Linkin Prankster (talk) 20:15, 2 June 2026 (UTC)

No. Valid CC licences are irrevocable. That's fundamental to making the whole system work, so it's built into CC from the ground up. Claims "I issued a CC licence, then revoked it" are just wrong. At most, they can stop issuing that licence on any new content, or issuing it for any longer on the original content. But this doesn't affect content that they did issue in the past, under that licence. It continues under that licence, so long as there's a credible audit trail recording this, and the timing.
The cost of this for us is that we need to have robust mechanisms for checking the existence of these licences when first issued, then archiving a record of this. That's why we use FlickrReviewerBot and their like. Andy Dingley (talk) 20:37, 2 June 2026 (UTC)
A bit meaningless when we dont have any mechanisms for YouTube Trade (talk) 21:36, 3 June 2026 (UTC)
This should perhaps be closed: there is no issue requiring administrator attention and OP has learnt a bit more about copyright. Whyiseverythingalreadyused (t · c · he/him) 01:31, 3 June 2026 (UTC)

Rename request for protected file

Can an admin please rename File:Prise du fort de Fautahua à Tahiti, 17 décembre 1846, Charles Giraud, 1857 (cropped).jpg? The file was full protected in 2017 when it was used on the en.wiki mainpage. Thanks. Geoffroi 00:19, 5 June 2026 (UTC)

Old DR close needed

Can an admin please see Commons:Deletion requests/File:Iva Jovic 20250914.png and delete the two copyright violations? These are taken from official tournament footage. Thanks for your time. Geoffroi 23:39, 5 June 2026 (UTC)

@Geoffroi: That DR is less than two months old. Please be patient. Per COM:DR#Latest requests to be closed, "There are 11566 open deletion requests, the oldest being 263 days old."   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 01:11, 6 June 2026 (UTC)
I've tagged both files for speedy deletion under CSD F1, which contains no clause at all related to patiently waiting to delete obvious copyright violations. The user who filed the DR should've done a simple image search and tagged the files for speedy deletion as I have. Geoffroi 02:32, 6 June 2026 (UTC)
Now deleted, and DR closed. Abzeronow (talk) 04:17, 6 June 2026 (UTC)

Request: Move category

Please move the category:

Category:Heidi in Latin America

to:

Category:Heidi in Lateinamerika

Reason: Correcting the title to the official German name of the exhibition as used by the Heidiseum.

Thank you! HonysTorresArt (talk) 23:45, 6 June 2026 (UTC)

@HonysTorresArt: you also created Category:Heidi in Lateinamerika (Honys Torres), which appears to be a duplicate. Either of these two categories should be deleted for, well... you know. Whyiseverythingalreadyused (t · c · he/him) 00:53, 7 June 2026 (UTC)
Does not look like a duplicate going by the description at Category:Heidi in Latin America: The exhibition brings together artworks by Gonzalo Sojo (Argentina), Honys Torres (Venezuela), Hellen R. Orellana (Peru) and Pirmin Breu (Mexico) — Honys Torres is only one of the contributors.
I'm rather worried about copyright. This version of Heidi (Heidi, Girl of the Alps) is a work of Studio Ghibli / Hayao Miyazaki edit: apparently characters were designed by Yōichi Kotabe and Toyoo Ashida and, I assume, the characters are still protected by copyright, so that any derivative work is tricky copyrightwise. (In fact, I'm seeing other copyrighted characters in that artwork, like Lucky Luke and Lisa Simpson.)
Furthermore, the depicted art is by Honys Torres, and while the uploader's username indicates that they are Honys Torres, the account is not verified, nor have the files COM:VRT tickets which would be required for works of a living artist. Nakonana (talk) 13:59, 7 June 2026 (UTC)
Thank you for the clarification. I am the artist of the works in the “Heidi in Lateinamerika” exhibition. These pieces are reinterpretations created entirely by me as part of my artistic practice, not direct copies of copyrighted frames. I understand the concerns regarding copyright and the need for proper verification. I will proceed with the VRT process to confirm authorship and licensing for my uploads. Thank you for pointing this out and for your guidance. HonysTorresArt (talk) 16:34, 7 June 2026 (UTC)

Any administrators interested in closing it? It was created by an LTA without the nominee's consent; the account used to create it is now blocked. Whyiseverythingalreadyused (t · c · he/him) 12:09, 7 June 2026 (UTC)

Interface admin

We have more updates to our OWID visualization gadget. Can an interface admin update these two:

Thanks Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 17:14, 7 June 2026 (UTC)

@Doc James you didn't apply my scope fixes to your version from May. What is the procedure to fix your version? Nux (talk··dyskusja) 17:28, 7 June 2026 (UTC)
User:Nux Can you log onto MDWiki.org with OAuth? I will make you an interface admin there, and then you can edit the main source code. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 18:34, 7 June 2026 (UTC)
@Doc James Hm... OK, created an account: https://mdwiki.org/wiki/User:Nux Nux (talk··dyskusja) 19:25, 7 June 2026 (UTC)

Please add User talk:Ajt9 to your watchlist

This is a professional photographer, confirmed by the link to her user page on https://ansonjtong.com/. Some of her photos were published elsewhere before being uploaded here, but since it's her that doesn't matter.
We don't really have a good system for this (other than sending someone to VRT for every single photo which would be a pain), so please become a TPS to intercept any erroneous deletion notifications that might come her way. Thank you. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 11:36, 8 June 2026 (UTC)
