Three British Tanks were in Adelaide in September 1918 one of which was used as part of a grand parade to open the Bank of Thrift and remained there as a display, another was named by the Premier and was sent to the northern towns and the other tank was named by the Mayor and sent to the southern towns. On the 14th of september 1918 one of the tanks visited unley oval and was christend 'Grit' after the christening Grit demonstrated its capabilities and is reported to have demolished a stone structure. |
