Tool not showing up on certain image
Hi, the RemoveGPS tool is not showing up on this image of mine (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Benelli_M2_Pro_Black_7%2B1.jpg). Do you have any idea why? I would like to remove the location data from this, and I used the tool for several other of my images but for some reason the tool does not show up on this page. Many thanks. - @Elshad - sorry for the long delay; I only saw this now. I don't see any reason why this button wouldn't display for you on that page. If you still have the script installed, could you see if this is still a problem? There have been some code changes to the script recently, so maybe it will work for you now. Do not misuse
there's now a section "Usage guidelines".
here's 1 thing i wanna mention. for my files, all gps there are intentional. other users shouldnt remove them unless they are erroneous (e.g. gps drift), even though some coords were my previous homes.
and i think this applies to any users. unless users have explicit permission from creators or persons related to those coords, they should not remove other users' files' coords.
then there's the problem of being unable to contact those persons. in that case, users should not remove coords since they dont get the permission. if one day i've stopped editing, i still dont want other users to remove my files' gps. RoyZuo (talk) 15:27, 25 July 2026 (UTC)
- This script only displays the "Remove GPS" button if the user looking at the file is the one who uploaded it. (Or is an administrator.) Does that address your concern? Yaron Koren (talk) 01:44, 28 July 2026 (UTC)
