Over the many years I have been on Commons its been rare for me to recommend any user for the mop, in AlphaLemur case this will be the first time I have ever recommended an affiliated employee. Yes you heard that right AlphaLemur is an employee of Wikimedia Australia(WMAU), and has been so for about 3 years. 12 months ago the event-organisor bit was assigned because of a genuine need to support her work with WMAU. I have watch her more closely since granting that right as I see that as part of my responsibility. AlphaLemur supports many workshops and new users relatyed to GLAM activities, occassionally I'm approached to solve an issue that a new user as unknowingly and unintentionally created. What tipped me into this nomination was observations at Wikimania in where AlphaLemur was being more than just another employee she genuinely participated many discussions and activities showing a depth of knowledge and that genuine desire to grow Commons community. For transparency, I am an employee of Wikimedia Australia. I edit under a single account for both professional contributions and personal contributions. I have conflicts of interest clearly stated on my user pages. If the community would prefer that I separate work and volunteer activities, I am happy to do so.
I know that I am not as prolific an editor as past approved admins, but I am becoming increasingly familiar with how Wikimedia Commons works and am willing to ask and receive guidance. I have been fortunate to have attended in-person and online training and workshops. I recently received WMF funding to attend the 2026 ESEAP Conference and Wikimania 2026 so I could meet and learn from experienced Wikimedians and bring that learning back into my work supporting the Australia GLAM and Wikimedia community.
I'd like to be part of helping to build and refine the Commons platform, supporting our GLAM partners and new users. If granted adminship, I will help with clean-up and other tasks where they are needed, and as the Community directs me. Any matters where I have a conflict of interest through my WMAU role, I would leave to other admins.
I believe Wikimedia Commons has a vital role to play in the Wiki and free knowledge ecosystem, and I also believe we need a holistic understanding of how those systems interact. Thank you for your consideration. AlphaLemur (talk) 02:58, 14 August 2026 (UTC)
