Category:Music visualization
Music visualization or music visualisation, is animated imagery dynamically and algorithmically generated from a piece of music or a music exchange file.
It can be understood as applied data visualization.
Music visualization has two broad areas of application:
- decorative imagery adding a visual entertainment dimension to (for example) club and concert music.
- physical or literal modeling of real and theoretical musical structures and behaviors, in all their diversity.
In both the above cases, imagery is usually generated and rendered in real time and in a way synchronized with the music source as it is played.
Despite many commonalities, physical or literal music visualization is clearly distinguished from the decorative by its visual information content.
