Unlikely to be in the public domain, whether as an alleged government-designed work ({{PD-PhilippinesGov}}) or as a very simple logo that lacks creativity ({{PD-textlogo}}).

The author behind this logo is Itch Creatives, a Pasig-based visual graphics design company. Sources: this FB post, Reddit post, and logopedia entry. It is likely that the company transferred their copyright to the city government after its unveiling (if COM:GVT Philippines is to be followed). Concerning the simplicity or creativity, the two crucial elements of the logo bear symbolisms according to the FB post. The lowercase "i" (an outlier among the all-caps letters) stands for a citizen of the city, and the wavy patterns at the bottom represents the flow of the city's rivers. The use of lowercase "i" here is intentional and the addition of wavy outline are factors that can make this logo a creative work and not a pure geometric or typeface logo that may deny it copyright protection. I propose deletion because there appears to be a copyright issue under the Commons licensing policy. This photograph was taken in Malaysia in 1963 and appears to be an official government photograph. Although it may now be in the public domain in Malaysia due to the expiration of the local copyright term, it was still under copyright on 1 January 1996. Therefore, it may have had its U.S. copyright restored under the URAA, meaning it is not demonstrably free in the United States as required by Commons (COM:URAA). ...which the Crown sells or disclaims, and the Trade Mark Register shows that none of the Hesketh trade marks were registered before 2011. I think it's one of those where we're OK unless the Crown complains. After all there are loads of similar on wikimedia (ex-football club badges, defunct car marques - and even in extremis the copyright could be extended to e.g. overall car design or even building design...there are people's pics of Christo artworks for instance, when Christo basically lived off selling pictures of his artwork. I think it's one of those where we're OK unless the Crown complains If the Crown has grounds for a complaint we're not okay, even if they care or not, read COM:PCP. And the fact that a lot of copyvios exist on Commons doesn't excuse another one. Also, regarding boldness, whereas Wikipedia preaches be bold, Commons on the other hand preaches its opposite, don't be bold just because of copyright reasons, inter alia. Please provide proof that the files are free. And a lack of trademark doesn't necessarily equal a lack of copyright as far as I know. Jonteemil (talk) 01:22, 6 July 2026 (UTC)

I can prove that they fell to the Crown, and the trademark registrations afterwards demonstrate that the trademarks are over fresh creations, not a purchase of the original. Which leads to the strong inference that there is no subsisting copyright as the trademark owners would have had that assigned to them, and indeed when registering in 2011 the Crown would have had the right to stop them - IF the Crown still had the copyright. A blazon is not copyrightable. And the depiction is dictated by the blazon, it's not a separate artistic creation. (And the same comments re bona vacantia apply - Briggs Motor Bodies ultimately became part of the British Motor Corporation.) In Vitrio (talk) 07:30, 7 July 2026 (UTC)
