 Not done @Junior Jumper, it looks to me like you gave them a warning to stop doing this 5 minutes and threatening that if they continue they will be blocked. Five minutes later, you reported them here and asked for a block. Please, in the future, don't do both! Think about it: "If you don't stop, you're going to be in trouble. [Person does nothing.] You are now in trouble." Just not an appropriate sequence.

due to vandalism my image on wikimedia was fully protected and I couldnt make any changes to it (referring to this map) I was advised to make a request here so that I would be able to edit and overwrite my file.

@Proper2oo: I'll lower the protection level on that, but given how much it's been vandalized, my guess is that it should be re-raised when you are done.

Also, the color for tributaries in your key doesn't match the one in your map, and you should probably get those in line with one another.

Deceased user

I just read that User:Горбунова М.С. is deceased. In January, someone wrote about her death on her user page using her account. Should this account be blocked and globally locked? Is this the right place to request this? Thanks in advance --Robert Flogaus-Faust (talk) 17:28, 11 May 2026 (UTC)

@Jmabel: I read this first on Commons talk:Quality_images_candidates#In_memoriam, but https://www.inaturalist.org/people/1453678 and the user's personal page contain the same kind of statements. I don't speak any Russian and I don't know whether there are any obituaries. However, if the statments about the death of this user are false, then she must have either lost control of her accounts or made these statements herself. I suggest that this is very unlikely, except that some friend or relative may have shared her login data and added the day of her death, and that a block would be o.k. anyway. --Robert Flogaus-Faust (talk) 10:52, 12 May 2026 (UTC)

 Comment File:Vijay Kumar Soren's volgur words.png uploaded by ᱯᱨᱚᱯᱷᱮᱥᱥᱚᱨ is itself an importing of en-wiki drama to Commons. It looks like on his own en-wiki talk page, Vijay made some legal threats, which he then walked back (though you'd never know the latter from what was posted on Commons, and the Commons file page lacked a link back to the source; I had to read the image and type). There was absolutely no good reason for a screenshot of this on Commons, and posting it looks like harassment of Vijaysoren. If you want to reference a diff, do it with a diff, not a screenshot.

Vijaysoren's response on the linked page linked by Trade is a link to a PDF (plus some categories that in the circumstances look only mildly contentious, but which don't belong on a file talk page, and have already been removed). If that PDF exists, it is probably not accessible in the U.S., because all I see if I click on the link is "NoSuchKey", so I have no idea what the PDF might say.

Looks to me like two users importing drama from another wiki and trouting each other. There may be more going on, but my reaction is that we should delete the file and either (a) block neither or (b) block both. I don't really care which. - Jmabel ! talk 03:56, 12 May 2026 (UTC)

I am extremely sorry for uploading this screenshot to Commons. My intention was not to distribute it on Wikimedia Commons; I only uploaded it to show him the comments that he removed from their talk page, and to warn him not to use that kind of language here, which he removed from their talk.

  • I'd say borderline. Again, if given that I believe ᱯᱨᱚᱯᱷᱮᱥᱥᱚᱨ's conduct here had already crossed a line, I'm a lot less concerned with how Vijaysoren responded to that than I otherwise would be.

@Jmabel: I think that the behavior of Vijaysoren was bad in making the threat (but that is an enwiki and WMF problem dealt with by both bodies), but worse for us on Commons was the behavior of ᱯᱨᱚᱯᱷᱮᱥᱥᱚᱨ in dragging the dispute here. No. Vijaysoren's raw links to pdfs of India law, the impetus for this thread, do not comprise legal threats--verily, links that are at best tantamount to "I believe there's a violation Statute X" are distinct from "I am going to sue you for violating Statute X"; we effectively do the former with routine copyvio tags ("I believe there's a violation of USC 17 ..."). Vijaysoren had threatened no legal action on the Commons when this request was posted, and never has. Also noting for posterity that ᱯᱨᱚᱯᱷᱮᱥᱥᱚᱨ uploaded the screenshot of the en.wiki threats at 11:43, 25 April 2026, after Vijaysoren self-removed the threats on en.wiki (11:23, 25 April 2026); to the extent this is/was even a Commons matter, it is because ᱯᱨᱚᱯᱷᱮᱥᱥᱚᱨ imported it. I believe COM:NLT quite deliberately leaves room for admins to make judgement calls, including whether to allow someone a chance to withdraw a given threat.

I don't view merely linking statutes like this as a threat, and I don't think we have anything in policy that suggest it is (though I would feel differently about someone arbitrarily linking statutes about a miscellany of violent crimes, and not because of the legal threat). I've tried cleaning up the file, but I don't seem to be able to suppress the name of the original uploader. Will some other admin please have a look at this and see if they can somehow make that go away? (No idea why this isn't working, pretty certain I've done this before.)
