First published in 1982, the photo was still under copyright in Argentina on 1 January 1996, so its U.S. copyright was automatically restored under the URAA and will only expire after the full 95-year term (public domain on 1 January 2078). --Jonatan Svensson Glad (talk) 00:36, 6 February 2026 (UTC)

Then {{Not-PD-US-URAA}} is the incorrect tag for this file. Need to have relevant US PD tag instead if it was published in the US within 30 days etc. --Jonatan Svensson Glad (talk) 12:13, 7 February 2026 (UTC)
user talk:Günther Frager is one of the editors who has been adding the URAA template to all El Gráfico photos. I discussed that issue with him, but he insisted on keeping the tags. You are welcome to leave your arguments on his talk page so I can't ping him. Fma12 (talk) 14:02, 7 February 2026 (UTC)
@Fma12: I might have added a template to some photos, but it is not something systematic. I do remember some discussions about URAA with you, but I don't remember asking to add or to keep this template. Maybe I changed my mind or I got misinterpreted, do you have an specific link?
Anyways, probably you want me opinion now. The template {{Not-PD-US-URAA}} cannot be used in any file uploaded after March 1, 2012 as the template clearly states. This is an argument that I frequently use in my DRs and in fact it was explicitly added to the template after this DR. Regarding the Gráfico magazine. I indeed found out that it was published simultaneously in the US and due to it I don't create DR for them. What I don't know is if the copyright formalities required are fulfilled or not. I won't support a deletion unless we have access to the full issue and check the copyright notice is placed somewhere (magazines don't require one next to each photo / article)..Günther Frager (talk) 17:40, 13 February 2026 (UTC)

File:Mrs Elizabeth Petty (1875–1947) Ernest Townsend died 1944.jpg

Mrs Elizabeth Petty is an oil portrait painted in 1937 by Ernest Townsend (1880–1944). In the UK, Townsend’s works were originally protected for life + 50 years, expiring at the end of 1994. The EU Directive 93/98/EEC extended copyright terms to life + 70 years, and the UK implemented this on 1 January 1996 with retroactive effect for works still protected in other EU countries. Because Townsend’s works were protected elsewhere in Europe, this painting re-entered copyright in the UK on 1 January 1996 and remained protected until 31 December 2014 (70 years after his death). Therefore, its U.S. copyright was restored under the COM:URAA and will last for 95 years from publication, expiring on 1 January 2033. --Jonatan Svensson Glad (talk) 00:56, 6 February 2026 (UTC)

This reads as its Ok, its Ok, its fine..... oh small legal and unintended consequence means that although the artist will gain no benefit what so ever, we need to damage our encyclopedia to enforce a copyright that no one cares about. I see that its a member of a cat below so I guess you are fully aware of the potential damage. I suggest that the foundations lawyers should underwrite this interpretation and if we believe we have no other option then we should counter sue google, X and facebook for breaking this, useless and valueless, legal point. Not happy. Victuallers (talk) 09:40, 6 February 2026 (UTC)

Although the work briefly entered the UK public domain in 1991 under the former life +50 rule, EU Directive 93/98/EEC restored copyright in the UK from 1 January 1996 because it was still protected in other EU countries. As a result, the painting remained under UK copyright until 31 December 2011. Since it was copyrighted in its source country on 1 January 1996, its U.S. copyright was restored under the URAA and will expire on 1 January 2030. --Jonatan Svensson Glad (talk) 01:23, 6 February 2026 (UTC)

Unjustified usage of {{PD-Italy}}. The source indicates the copyright holder is the French film company en:Les Films Corona and it is likely a promotional photo. The photo is clearly still copyrighted in France and the US due to URAA. To keep it, we need evidence that it was first published in Italy. Günther Frager (talk) 02:23, 6 February 2026 (UTC)

  •  Keep Perfectly in touch with the Public domain in Italy. The film was released in Italy first. - Groupir ! (talk) 06:41, 6 February 2026 (UTC)
@Groupir !: could you provide evidence for you claim? Günther Frager (talk) 08:36, 6 February 2026 (UTC)
A premiere in Roma one month before the French release . Groupir ! (talk) 15:11, 6 February 2026 (UTC)
That is when the film was premiered, but this is a photo and it is not precisely a frame from that film. As far as I remember, Bourvil drives the Cadillac while De Funes follows him in a different car. You need to provide evidence when this precise photo was published, not when a different, although related, artwork was published. Günther Frager (talk) 16:22, 6 February 2026 (UTC)
The film was released at that time, so were the promotional photos. This kind of photos (exploitation photos) were always displayed on the entrances of cinemas to give a preview of the film. - Groupir ! (talk) 19:25, 6 February 2026 (UTC)
Again, that is a supposition without any real evidence. Your are claiming that all the photos taken during the making of the film were displayed on all the cinemas that projected it. Even the February 1965 premiere in Rome claimed in IMDB, a website were anyone can edit it, doesn't seem to be for the general public. Looking at the online archives, the review in Corriere della Sera is from November 27, 1965 and the one in La Stampa is from January 15, 1966, frwiki claims the release in Italy was November 25, 1965. Günther Frager (talk) 23:04, 6 February 2026 (UTC)
Where did you find these articles, precisely, please ? Do you have links to other Italian critics from the first release to strenghten your claim ? Groupir ! (talk) 07:03, 7 February 2026 (UTC)
Doing a simple query on you favorite search engine with point that all issues of La Stampa are available at https://archive.org/details/la-stampa-newspaper and all issues of Corriere della Sera are available at https://archivio.corriere.it/Archivio/interface/landing.html. How can you have access to the content of the Corriere della Sera ?ǃ There is a paywall, we can't see if it is a review about the film or just another article about it. - Groupir ! (talk) 02:55, 10 February 2026 (UTC)
How can you have access to the content of the Corriere della Sera ?ǃ Sorry, it is none of your business. If you don't have access, you can ask at the VP, plenty of public and private institutions have have access to it. I provided two sources, is https://archive.org censored by your regime? Where is the evidence that this particular photo was first published in Italy? I guarantee it was not on the newspaper issues I cited. Günther Frager (talk) 11:47, 10 February 2026 (UTC)
What a diva... It's simply to check the content of this article to verify your words. I gave the evidence with that first release on February 1965. Groupir ! (talk) 14:01, 10 February 2026 (UTC)
  • rather  Keep. In my opinion, it's not so much a problem of film release date, but rather demonstrating that the picture was actually taken on Italian soil. @ User:Tisourcier any opinion ? Archibald Tuttle (talk) 09:12, 7 February 2026 (UTC)
@Archibald Tuttle: the {{PD-Italy}} template starts with: The country of origin of this photograph is Italy and the link refers to the Berne Convention definition of country of origin. Taking a picture in Italy doesn't make Italy the country of origin. Günther Frager (talk) 12:48, 7 February 2026 (UTC)
Taking a picture in Italy for an Italian movie shot there with half of the crew being Italian makes it. Groupir ! (talk) 13:14, 7 February 2026 (UTC)
Again, country of origin is determined by its first publication, not by the people surrounding the photo. And btw, who took the photo? the Italian gaffer? the Italian cook? the Italian hairdresser? the Italian cleaning personnel? because the still photographer was Victor Rodrigue who is as Italian as Nicolas Sarkozy. Günther Frager (talk) 13:37, 7 February 2026 (UTC)
@Günther Frager: this sounds like over-perfectionism to me! But if you're sure about legal issues, the ultimate solution (in a constructive approach) would be to ask to the copyright owner (formerly Corona, now probably Studiocanal) to officially release the image in public domain and change license accordingly. While the link is dead, the archive link contains the image used and uploaded in this file, and the images on the Greens party website are (unless otherwise stated) available under a CC BY-SA 2.5 license. I don't know what should be done in an instance where the person who a photo depicts wishes for the photo to be removed, but Creative Commons licenses don't have an expiry date, and this image was then and is still validly licensed, so I leave this comment to make clear that it is not a copyright violation. The painting was still under copyright in France on 1 January 1996 because French law applied post-mortem wartime extensions for World War II, so Jacques-Émile Blanche’s term did not expire in 1992 (1942 + 50) but several years later. Because it was protected in France on that date, its U.S. copyright was restored under the URAA and, as a work first published in 1933, it remains protected in the United States until 1 January 2029. --Jonatan Svensson Glad (talk) 11:14, 6 February 2026 (UTC)

TO follow up, it was still copyrighted in France on 1 Jan 1996 due to France's WWII wartime extension of 8 years and 120 days (added to the standard 50-year term). Blanche died in 1942, so copyright expired in 2001, not 1992. --Jonatan Svensson Glad (talk) 17:11, 8 February 2026 (UTC)

  •  Keep To me it hinges on whether this is an authorized use of the copyrighted character. To me it appears so. For the copyright holder to show that the use was not authorized, the copyright holder would send a cease and desist order to the violator, to show that they are policing unauthorized usage. For instance if the newspaper printed a notice that the previous publication was not authorized by the copyright holder. I see the image as lapsing into the public domain, even though the character does not lapse. --RAN (talk) 18:38, 6 February 2026 (UTC)
    • Probably not. If it was an authorized use in the ad, and the ad is actually freely licensed by the copyright owner of the ad, then maybe (it's likely that such a license exceeds the authorization they had in the first place though). We could only use this particular character drawing, and only in the context of the ad, even then. But odds are the rest of the ad is PD through lack of renewal, and the Flickr user is no relation to the company who ran the ad in the first place. In that case most of the ad is PD, but it is still a derivative work of the character, and you need permission from the underlying copyright owner to distribute it. The company who owns the ad can always distribute it under the original authorization, but anyone else needs permission from the underlying copyright owner. For one example, the film It's a Wonderful Life was not renewed, so was shown on TV, then someone remembered they owned the copyright to the underlying book, and their permission was needed to show the film. Almost definitely a similar case here. Carl Lindberg (talk) 22:10, 6 February 2026 (UTC)

    • Interesting, if that section was the main one derivative of the book, it's an interesting test. Anyways, Stewart v. Abend is another example of this situation, where a derivative work becomes PD for one reason or another, but the underlying work is still under copyright. Out of scope, potential copyvio: all of these PDFs contain unattributed images and often include screenshots of non-free content like Google Maps.

If you can supply freely licensed images of the pieces of artwork you are cataloging here, please upload those images to Commons directly - you can attach additional information to those images, like their locations, in the Commons file pages.

Comment, the logo itself isn't the problem. It's just simple text. I think the background is the issue. That could potentially be solved by vectorizing it, using only the text. זיו「Ziv」For love letters and other notes 23:38, 5 March 2026 (UTC)

Comment the logo looks to me to be probably simple enough to be in the public domain in both Honduras and the U.S., so I find the accusation that the image (and an unnamed article) were stolen from you rather absurd. Further, he remark that the (unspecified) article should be deleted because no fue subido por la empresa aquien [sic] corresponde amounts to a statement that we should only host content that has a conflict of interest. - Jmabel ! talk 07:27, 3 March 2026 (UTC)

- Jmabel ! talk 17:21, 23 March 2026 (UTC)
I sense that this is a continuation of Commons:Requests for checkuser/Case/Carlosarevalohn, see Commons:Deletion requests/File:Canal 24 Honduras es un medio de comunicacion de Televisión y digital.jpg and the new involved users' contributions. Nakonana (talk) 17:31, 12 March 2026 (UTC)

Further somewhat weird edits on the page by nearly new User:Jairojimenez6; obviously wants it deleted, obviously has no sense of Commons' process; these edits at least border on vandalism. - Jmabel ! talk 18:58, 12 April 2026 (UTC)

Work of Aaronson Andrew, not 'own work'. 2607:F140:8801:0:0:0:1:25 15:31, 12 July 2023 (UTC)

Keep Obviously not. Andrew is the man in the image, so he can't be the photographer. --PaterMcFly (talk) 17:32, 12 July 2023 (UTC)
?! 186.172.185.222 18:00, 12 July 2023 (UTC)
Sorry, I got this probably wrong. The description says that Andrew is the actor. But since the video is apparently taken with a frame (the camera doesn't move), he can of course also be the copyright holder. That would lead to the assumption that the uploader is the Artist, which seems reasonable, since he's in all of his videos, sometimes even alone. --PaterMcFly (talk) 18:22, 12 July 2023 (UTC)
Good. Take this motivation to also accept that there is no photography or photographer around. This is about a "vídeo". How do you think Youtubers work, hiring a cameraman? 186.172.185.222 18:28, 12 July 2023 (UTC)
